Well I've been naughty today
Went out to one of our favourite coffee shops, which I've not been to for over a year. Decided to treat myself to a latte instead of black coffee, and a scone with jam and cream.
Whilst I did enjoy it, I struggled to eat all of the scone and ended up leaving some.
And now I just feel SO full, it's like that scone is sat in the bottom of my stomach in a big lump!
Oh well, I will remember this feeling next time I am tempted!
Meant to be having grilled courgette and halloumi with salad for tea but that's super filling and I can't face it right now. Think I will go for a stuffed red pepper instead.0 -

Thanks for this. I was eating quite a few cashews thinking they were low carb. I did the shopping this morning and have stocked up on brazils, hazelnuts, almonds & walnuts.Weight loss 0/2st

Info from Atkins about nuts
Low-Carbohydrate Nuts
Atkins believed that foods with fewer digestible carbohydrates are better because digestible carbohydrates are converted into blood sugar in the body and excess sugar is stored as fat. "Dr. Atkins' New Diet Revolution" lists 10 nuts on its Carbohydrate Gram Counter chart, which presents the number of grams of digestible carbohydrates in one serving of food. This means that the number of grams of indigestible fiber is subtracted from the total number of carbohydrate grams.
A serving of nuts is 2 tbsp and walnuts, with 1.7 grams of carbohydrates per serving, are the first nut on Atkins' Gram Counter list. They are followed by pecans (2.1), macadamia (2.3), pine nuts (2.4), hazelnuts (2.8), peanuts (3.4), almonds (3.6), pistachio nuts (4.7), almond butter (6.8) and peanut butter (6.9).
High-Protein Nuts
Atkins believed that high-protein foods are healthy. In "Dr. Atkins' New Diet Revolution," he lists several nuts, condiments, oils and vinegars, cheeses, cold cuts, vegetables and fruits that should be added into meals to make them higher in protein.
Protein represents between 10 to 17 percent of the calories in nuts. His list of recommended high-protein nuts includes macadamia nuts, almonds, walnuts, hazelnuts, pecans, unsweetened macadamia or almond butter, and unsweetened peanut butter. He recommends storing the nuts in freezers to keep them fresher longer.

1-2 brazil nuts a day gives the RDA for selenium which helps to prevent coronary artery disease, liver cirrhosis, and cancers.0 -
Back on the straight and narrow the last few days.
Interesting to read all the nut info. I've always liked nuts but have had them much more frequently since low carbing. I've taken to having almonds as my 'standard' nut, looking at those stats they're not ideal - although not the worst either.
I'm not too keen on walnuts or pecans, and really dislike macadamias and peanuts, so I can live with that.
So, food for today:
Breakfast: greek yoghurt with flaked almonds and flaxseed
Lunch: devilled egg with asparagus and salad
Dinner: grilled courgette with halloumi, and a nice side salad.
Started back into my swimming training around end of November. Now that I'm getting into the swing of it, I'm wondering whether the lack of carbs is going to slow me down.
I've heard of elite athletes managing on low carb so must be possible (and I'm definitely not elite lol). But the point I'm at now I'm feeling a little more tired during my swim than I'd expect.
Any thoughts?0 -
Great post Sheila :j
I love the fact that brazils stop wrinkles as well
I've had a really though day at work and only just getting home, a quick omelette I think.
I fancy something sweet so I think I will have berries with chocolate flax and cream :ALife is short, smile while you still have teeth0 -
Boots babe, I work long hours and sometimes nine days without a day off. I also walk through rough terrain for an your a day. More like a hike, I eat around 40 grams of carbs a day for almost 15 months straight, my family wish i'd run out of energy:rotfl:
I have more energy on less carbs :jLife is short, smile while you still have teeth0 -
Hi,
thanks all for the advice and info - i had been on mixed nuts which included cashews so I've now swapped to brazils.
however, the slight flaw in the plan with nuts is having never really tried eating them on thier own before, i've now discovered i love them a bit too much - absent mindedly munched my way through 10 brazils at work today!!
will only take them to work in portion sizes of 3 now!
on the up - wieghed myself this morn and 2lb gone - whoop!! has restored my faith - especially as i know it's probably protion size - particularly of nuts!
i'm still finding i'm hungry - that bit of losing hunger hasn't gone, although it has lessened.
will mkae huge effort with the water this week as that must help - I just don't like it though!!
thanks again all -0
