Water really does help as we often mistake thirst for hunger. Do you like herbal teas as they are allowed?

Nuts are moreish so I have my allowance with a square of 70% chocolate and call it my treat. I also make almond and flax pancakes as well which is a nice treat / dessert and filling.

I think that if you wish to live this way long term, and I do have more energy eating this way, it is important to find meals and treats that you enjoy. I have half an avocado, a little chocolate with nuts etc as they keep me happy but others make low carb bread etc.

Exercise is also important, as murphydog will tell you. I try to walk every day but am still struggling a lot with sciatica which is a nuisance. Walked for around 25 minutes today but was doing better last year. It is hard to motivate to walk in cold weather but you really do feel more alive after :)

i'm still finding i'm hungry - that bit of losing hunger hasn't gone, although it has lessened.

will mkae huge effort with the water this week as that must help - I just don't like it though!!

Libby! Congrats on the loss! :j

Drink lots of water but you don't like it. Hmmm.

Sheila has a good thort with the tea thing. When I decided to go coffee-less at work I chose Green tea and was surprised I didn't get the 'headache - I think I'm dying' nonsense. I didn't (from a 8 big mug of perc a day).

But Green tea has a little caffeine so it was for me easy. I went on to try lots of caffeine free teas and all were ok. Well, not all tasted v good - avoid any with 'flavourings' cos they're poo. Try rosehip - very berry :)

Anyway. If you don't like water, get a 1L bottle, then add 1/4 teasp baking soda, fill up with water. No joke, it makes water sweet and nice. Takes away the acid nature of our regular water from the tap.

Don't try to drink water v cold. This is off-putting and that doesn't help. Either add a bit of warm water to the bottle or make up the night before and leave out. Put on radiator if necessary.

Do try to drink more. Go for 1L initially. If you work full time take a little bottle of cordial (or a small amount of baking soda) to keep with you in case you want to fill it up for more watery goodness later.

You are doing well, babe! Keep hydrated and every trip to the loo is unplanned exercise!

    Are you eating enough?

If you are proply leaving out the carbs maybe eat a bit more protein? A little more lean protein may help you keep the hunger at bay. Boiled eggs are filling and v nice. 10 mins fully boiling, cooled quickly and kept in a bowl good for self helping for at least a week at room temp - best food in the world :j Also, chop up with cream cheese and fill ham or lettuce rolls. Add a few smoked salmon bits - the options are endless!

Quick qualification - Libby has little to lose. Filling up on lean protein may help those stubborn lbs

    Big love libby

No idea if it's any good as I've not read it, there is a free Kindle ebook available at the moment, with low carb breakfast recipes:

Have downloaded it, not yet looked though. Sorry if it's rubbish!

At least I now know that the lb I put on over night is down to my nuts!!

Have decided just to finish the damn packet that calls to me from my desk drawer tomorrow then start again by doing a snack and green tea shop before work fri morn.

I definitely feel better though. Less bloated and no mid afternoon slump.

Am continuing to follow this thread for advice and ideas, thanks everyone
  • Where is everyone?
I have been working long days so haven't been here as much as usual. Being further from the fridge at work means that I have lost the kilo which I put on over Xmas which is a result. A shop near my workplace sells low carb noodle pots which are delish but messy to eat and expensive so unfortunately best avoided. Back to packed lunches...

    Hello!

Just made a beef mince curry to be served on beds of crushed cauliflower. Will be made into about 6 meals so winter warming lunches on the way! :j

Used good beef mince, powdered spice mix (jalfrezi), chillis, onions, garlic, fresh ginger, turnip and green beans

I like mince curries for lunches and quick meals - less chewing and more bang for your buck. Also good portion of cauli as extra veg. ;)

It's fun to see people sniffing appreciatively as it warms up in the works microwave - my lunch is probably much better than theirs - or at least smells like it is :rotfl:

There are also 10 little pigs in blankets in the oven :T I started the curry on the stovetop but am now letting it cook slowly for a couple of hours in the oven. Got a lovely casserole dish for xmas so have been slow cooking alsorts. All results good so far :) Frees you up to do other things.

Happy Sunday to all the LCers!

    Hi Everyone

Hope you all had good a good time over Christmas and holidays etc. I'm just about back in the land of the living and the tribunal is over and done with - we won DS2 a full time placement in the local ASD inclusion unit with additional 25 hours 1:1 :j :j :j

(I'm not even going to think about getting on the scales for a few weeks ;))

Back on the straight and narrow the last few days.

    ...

Started back into my swimming training around end of November. Now that I'm getting into the swing of it, I'm wondering whether the lack of carbs is going to slow me down.

I've heard of elite athletes managing on low carb so must be possible (and I'm definitely not elite lol). But the point I'm at now I'm feeling a little more tired during my swim than I'd expect.

    Any thoughts?

It takes the body a while to adjust so you're probably just expecting it to achieve this faster than you want. You may find this book interesting: The Art and Science of Low Carbohydrate Performance

    Xmas Saver!
    Hi everyone.

I have just found this thread. I have been unwell for some time now and my doctor has told me to cut carbs out of my diet. I have had bloods taken and am waiting for the results.

The doctor told me to only use skimmed milk and cut out all fruit in my diet. She said to do stage 1 Atkins. Only I don't eat eggs or cheese and am starting to get a little bored.

I am going to go through all the recipes that Mercy compiled, but at a quick glance a lot of them rely on the things I do not eat.

At present I am living on meat/tuna and vegetables. I am not hungry at all just a bit bored.

Hope to find some inspiration on here.
