Hi Sheila, home made coleslaw springs to mind from your veg list on the other page. I've used courgette before, but I'm sure both sliced kale and green beans would also be good. If you added some lemon juice or zest it would be good with salmon.

Or how about green beans (long, not runner) with a poached egg on top and crispy bacon bits on top of that :j good for breakfast?

I started with a semi primal/paleo diet and fitness regime last March. Lost 57lbs by Christmas. My older daughter is Coeliac and when I was looking round for a lifestyle I can stick with, I found information that we're not designed to eat grains. This made sense to me so I gave up bread, cakes, pasta, pizza, beer etc. I also cut down on potatoes but balked at giving them up entirely as well as peas, beans and even baked beans. I have dropped peanuts and anything soya though.

Breakfast is a sort of omelette starting with a dab of coconut oil and spinach or mushrooms followed by two large free range eggs.

Lunch:- tin of mackerel/herring/salmon or roast chicken thigh with salad and a piece of fruit.

Dinner:- Whatever SWMBO cooks with half a pink grapefruit for pudding.

I normally drink a flavoured green tea but will have ordinary with milk or a proper coffee every now and again. I drink wine three days a week and have 25gms of Aldi's 70% cocoa solid chocolate every day as a treat. I will also have a single malt once in a while too.

Because I gave up bread, I therefore reduced the amount of cheese I eat and virtually never have jam/sugar. Drinking green tea means that I've cut right down on milk too.

I used to get loads of colds but (touch wood) I have not had one since last March even though my wife has brought a couple into the house and I've been around grandchildren who've had them. I don't know if taking fish oil helps with colds but it was recommended for general health. In winter the only other thing we may need to supplement is Vitamin D because we don't get so much sunlight.

After a couple of months I noticed my blood pressure was going down, contacted the doctor and asked which of the two BP medications I should stop taking. When I had dropped about 3 stone I stopped the other BP pills too. Reading up on Cholesterol, I have decided to stop taking statins and have a blood test in a couple of months to see where I stand.

    Yesterday's dinner recipe:-

Blob of coconut oil in a frying pan with a slack handful of chopped curly kale.

    Heat on.

Cut up four slices of bacon and add to pan.

Chop an onion and whack that in.

Cut up 4oz mushrooms and add them when the other stuff looks nearly cooked.

Couple of dollops sweet chilli sauce for a bit of kick and mix it in well.

Pop on plate and eat, washed down with two glasses of red wine.

    Great post!

If you are going to come off statins you will need to increase your flax seed. If you can afford it take co enzyeme q10 also :)

I've had such a busy day that people have had to feed and water me whilst I worked. I've only just finished.

Well done Shiela, that is amazing

Mercy - if you are unwell then sometimes you need to go with what you fancy so don't beat yourself up ;) Get well soon ((()))

NigeWick - well done. I avoid soy & wheat as I know that they affect me but didn't realise until I started eating this way. Started June 2011 and have lost 6 stone and then put back over a stone last month. Struggling as I hit a plateau for months last year but New Year new start. I want to lose another 2+ stone, if I can. Green tea makes me feel weird so I stick to a couple of cups of coffee, one cup tea, one cup cocoa and water.

pink princess - If flax can help reduce cholesterol then I must have more as I have to retest soon.

It is really good to know what we are all doing / eating as it sparks off ideas. Please put it down, if you have time.

    breakfast - half avocado, cheese
    lunch - lettuce, egg, 2 brazil nuts + 1oz 70% chocolate
dinner - curry with chicken, cauliflower, courgette, celery, a little tomato paste & onion. Turmeric added to curry.
evening - few raspberries with greek yogurt, Linwoods flax, sunflower, pumpkin, sesame, goji berries - 1 tbsp
drinks - water, coffee with cream, cup tea, half cup cocoa

Come on lurkers / thankers - how are you doing?

    Today's menu

B: Scrambled eggs, 1 sausage, 1 rasher of bacon.
L: 2 slices of ham, salad. Peanuts
D: Bolognese with cabbage. Mug of cocoa

3 squares 84% chocolate as I was tempted to delve into the sweetie (Quality Street etc)tins and thought this was a better option.

    Callanetics: 30 mins.

    Well done Sheila.

Still got both daughters at home and having to watch endless soaps/rubbish tv. Got really bored tonight and was so tempted to hit the sweets, so gave in and had chocolate instead.

durham_mim - What is wrong with a bit of chocolate; it is good for you, low carb and satisfying so don't try to defend it. I take my hat off to you as no matter how hard I try with 85% I really have to have 70 - 72% :D

Well done with the callanetics as well. I am trying to walk every day but still suffering with sciatica, though not as bad, so it isn't always as far as I would like.

The chocolate is good for me but I have to watch the milk content. If I eat too much it upsets my stomach and makes me feel generally :p Also because of the lactose intolerance if I eat too much my weight just goes sky high due to the extra water retained to deal with the lactose toxins.
