Mercy - thanks for the smoothie recipe and well done on the weight loss so far :T Any more pictures of your new cats?

I am feeling better for eating low carb and hope that some of the weight that I have gained will come off next week. My trouser button will not do up and that is annoying :(

I have proven over the Christmas period that
    a) eating extra carbs / wheat makes me gain weight
    b) the same make me feel tired, bloated and generally out of sorts

My GP told me 6 months ago that she wanted me to give up a low carb diet this month and I am due to see her again soon but I hope that, when I tell her that I put back on weight easily when I am not following this, she will reconsider. I lost over 6 stone and can't face going back there  I also want to lose a bit more, if I can.

Thanks for your support everyone and please keep posting as it is interesting to read other people's news, advice etc.

I'd ask the GP why she's advised you quit this diet.

I'm currently reading a book by Dr John Briffa (author of The Diet Trap), who backs up this diet with scientific data/studies. It's too early to judge the merit of the actual trials, but at a glance it does seem sound.

Sheila - will send pics :)

I've found my clear thinking again!

Went back to work on Weds, started LCing again on Weds too. Now ok, 3rd day, you should be back up to speed anyway? But what I have felt - and been able to accomplish - today is way more than reacquaintance with old norms :j

Clear thinking! Quick recollection! New/Old job - demonstrably better informed than I've been for ages!

Things click! Know what to do next!

    YAY!

    Imagine my glee! :j:T:rotfl:

No alcohol, lots of water, clean eating - what's not to love? :):A

    Big love all low carbers!

Doc's are not nutritionists and nhs nutritionists are taught the food pyramid.

If they release the truth they have to admit to being wrong for many years.

Fear of embarrasment makes them make us fat.

    Sad but true.

ps - Dr Briffa talks sense! YAY! :)

I tried following the recommended diet for diabetes when my blood sugars got a bit high and found that diet kept them high.

I did my own research and found lots of recommendations for low carb eating. I tried it and have brought my blood sugar readings down to normal.

My GP knows I am not following the recommended diet but doesn't want to know what I am doing as she'd feel obliged to tell me I should switch back.

sofaman - My GP told me that current research shows that following a low carb diet long term can have an effect on the circulatory system and cause problems. She was also concerned that my cholesterol had been normal and then raised to 7.4 when tested after low carbing for a year.

I had been grossly overweight for most of my life and this works and I am not going back there again. However, when I lose a bit more weight I will up the carb level to where I can maintain a stable weight as I am not diabetic and it makes sense. Also, if I don't lose any more or cholesterol levels remain high I may try Dukan as Mercy, and others, have found it works for them and it is still low carb but with a difference :D

Have a good day everyone :)

This is the first time I've ever regularly cooked from recipes. We've always had fresh food, but I'd have had a quorn item, plus veg and potato, or similar.

So I've found it a pain to work out shopping lists, when I have maybe 3 or 4 dishes I need to make from recipes, and need to go through them all to work out what I need to buy, and also combine duplicate items.

Have found a great solution so thought I would share. There is a website and a linked app called Pepperplate. You can either manually type in recipes, or if they are on a web page, it will import them for you. Then, when you want a shopping list, you just click a button and all items go into the list! Took me 5 mins to compile and print a list for the week, whereas it's taken me over half an hour on previous weeks.

Other advantage is that if I ever needed to get shopping whilst out and hadn't prepared, I have the app on my phone so can see my recipes at a glance.

I've found it really helpful and will definitely be putting all future recipes in it, so thought some of you may also be interested. It also has a daily/weekly planner, and an option to predefine daily menus which you can then select from. I haven't used this part as I have a spreadsheet I've made which calculates carb and protein per day as I put my menu together.

Unfortunately no built in option to add nutrition info - if you could do that, and then add it up that would be fantastic! But there is a 'Notes' section, and here I record the carb and protein counts.

Hi to everyone, it is nice to see so many here

I'm on day 4 and feel so much better already! The only real problem is being up 3 times during the night to release the water input! (sorry if tmi!) I haven't weighed myself, am just going to go by clothes as I tend to get too tied up in weight and it is going to take me ages to get down to where I need to be.

I love a cup of tea first thing in the morning, so have bought Lactofree and ordinary milk stalls me.

Well done on the losses and the sticking to it.

Wow thanks to one of the posts in here I have lost 9lbs in a week.

I followed the Chinese/Japanese diet, to be honest I had never heard of it before.

I made all the food myself except the sausage as I don't eat red meat but I guess you can buy most from a Chinese cash wholesalers.

This is what I have twice a day for lunch and dinner:

    Chicken in hoi sen sauce
    Sui mai
Pork potstickers fried in non stick pan with one spray of 1 cal then steamed
Chicken vienna sausage or egg roll using just the egg white
Chargrilled red peppers with feta cheese, baby plumb tomatoes and salad

I eat this in a Bento box which is half the size of my dinner plate so I can eat all this food and still loss weight. :)
It's better to regret something I did do than to regret something that I didn’t. :EasterBun
