    Chameleon, I hope you don't think I'm now picking up on everything, ;) but is there a reason why are you doing 2-3 hours of high intensity? Are you training for a triathlon, or something else endurance based?

    High intensity is meant for short-time training - sub 30 mins - probably the best form of exercise going. The thinking behind the need to do hours and hours in a gym to keep fit are long gone, and to be frank, a complete waste of time and energy.

    Unless you want fitness for an endurance event, you could have a lot more time on your hands :D

    Call it an addiction but it's the one thing guaranteed to keep me mentally and physically fit :D

    I don't do 2-3 hours every time I workout, sometimes I just do 30 mins high intensity interval or circuit training or a strength/conditioning session with weights/kettlebells etc but other times I combine classes when I'm short on time during the week so might do say a combat, bodypump and spin class together or a double spin class followed by swimming, which is when I rely on my extra banana to boost my energy levels if necessary.

    A lot depends on whether I've had a decent complex carb/protein breakfast or how energetic I'm feeling generally (sometimes find working in a fasted state brings my energy levels down sufficiently when in a manic phase) so nothing is set in stone. I do whatever my body needs me to do and always follow up a good workout with a high protein/healthy fats meal.

    Don't think it is the person you refer to, but it's mentioned in my Barry Groves book, along with lack of fat being a big factor in the rise of gall-stones.

    I don't have any of Barry Groves' books so I've been searching... ;)

    Gastrointestinal transit, post-prandial lipaemia and satiety following 3 days high-fat diet in men:
    Abstract

    Background/Objectives: High-fat (HF) diets of 2 weeks have been shown to accelerate gastric emptying (GE). To date, no studies have shown any alteration in GE following shorter HF diets. The aim of this study was to assess if an HF, high-energy diet of 3 days can adapt gastrointestinal (GI) transit, blood lipids and satiety.
    Subjects/Methods: Eleven male volunteers participated in a study consisting of three, 3-day interventions each separated by a test day. During the first intervention, volunteers recorded their diet. In the second and third interventions, volunteers repeated their food diary plus either a low-fat yogurt or HF yogurt supplement in randomized order. Test days involved measurement of GE using the 13C octanoic-acid breath-test, mouth-to-caecum transit time (MCTT) using the inulin H2 breath test and satiety using visual analogue scales. Blood samples for measurement of lipaemia were taken using a venous cannula.
    Results: MCTT was different between the three test days (P=0.038), with the shortest MCTT following the HF intervention. GE was shortest following the HF intervention. There were no differences in satiety between the interventions. The HF intervention reduced triglycerides, total cholesterol and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, and increased high-density lipoprotein cholesterol.
    Conclusion: This study shows that changes in GI transit owing to an HF diet can occur in a time period as short as 3 days.

  • Can anyone enlighten me on the situation regarding baked beans. I have read a couple of differing views so I'm not really sure whether to have them or not.

    I know you are going to love this but baked beans on toast provides all the essential amino acids. The combination of beans or peas and wheat is very common around the world. Dahl and chapatti for instance.

    yes heinz beans do contain a lot of sugar but there are I think lower sugar varieties
    Yes you can use wholemeal bread rather than crappy white stuff. However this is never going to be that low in carbs.
    Dont forget lashings of butter:)
    Oh and yes my recipes were serious and low carb. they just werent very low carb. Even the great Atkins reckoned man was designed to eat roots and that believe it or not is what a parsnip is.
    if you are really worried that you might have consumed too many mono or di saccharides then take the dog for a long run to burn them off.

    I was sitting on my hands over this one but you're perfectly correct and beans on (wholegrain) toast is actually more nutritious than a plate of steak & chips :D

    I would absolutely LOVE to take my dog for a long run or walk. However, chronic arthritis in both knees barely get me into the kitchen. One of the main reasons I am desperate to lose weight is so I can have knee replacements.

    ETA: Anyway, I'm allowed here under the guise of it being a weight loss thread considering I've lost over 8st in the past 2 years. Might not have done it "low carbing"' but still... :D

    Nobody here as far as I'm aware, it's a comparison which is frequently used. Obviously nobody on this thread would be eating chips anyway ;)
