Hi all,
Apologies for lack of posting. Been really busy as work and not around much.
Still going well and eating lc, but probably a little too much cheese. Clothes feeling a bit looser which is good.
I really can't believe the improvement to my knees when I stick with it. Makes such a difference.
Still having problems with cramp in the legs even though I'm taking magnesium supplements, so going to have a pootle around g***le to see what else I can try as I don't want to give up or eat more carbs.
Hope all are well.
Cramps are a bit of a nightmare. The sure-fire way I know of is tonic water but of course that's crammed with sugar or artificial sweeteners, it does work quickly though. Longer term you need to make sure you're drinking sufficient water and eating enough potassium, calcium and magnesium rich foods. Massage is a good preventer as well as soother. If it's really dire you might be able to persuade your GP to give you some quinine tablets but the side effects can be very severe so it's unlikely.Eat food. Not too much. Congrats on the jobs Jerry
I too have been getting bad leg cramps. I'm trying diet tonic water at the moment but am a bit concerned about the artificial sweeteners. Think I will get some lo-salt and try that next time I go shopping.
Tonight I spilt something on the trousers I was wearing. I was going out to a quiz night so needed to change but didn't have much clean/ironed. Decided to try my jeans, last time they wouldn't fasten. Tonight they went on quite easily and are fairly comfortable. Feeling really pleased with myself!Weight loss 0/2st

absolutebounder -Are you just saying artificial sweetner is bad in a scientific way? We all know that and most of us try to steer clear the majority of the time. But occasionally the odd sugar free sweet or 2 isnt really that bad if it stops a craving where a whole packet of normal sweets would have been eaten and then in my case another and the following day/week would have been a sugar binge! Are you also telling the people on the weightwatchers thread not to eat low fat as that is crammed with sugar?
Well yes artificial sweetners are bad in a scientific way and to me far worse than sugar itself (unless you are diabetic of course) I personally wouldnt touch a sugar free sweet but I do take your point that the whole packet of normal sweets would usually disappear because I would most likely do that too but I dont worry as it is something I only do rarely and then think of it as a treat.
Tbh I havent said anything on the weight watchers thread because I hate the ethics of the diet industry and I probably end up seeing more people who have failed long term with weight watchers and slimming world than anything else. low fat to me is dangerous in that there are essential fatty acids needed in the diet. There are no essential carbs so a lower (not low) carb intake is good but carb foods often contain vital nutrients which is why I used the word lower and not low. Of course it does rather depend what you mean by the word low In short a little of what you fancy is usually not bad.
I also notice that people think their body is burning fat after a fasting day. think again it is much more likely to be burning protein.Who I am is not important. What I do is.0 -

Now.. onto something off topic... I'm very happy to report, that after I finish this assignment tomorrow.. there will be no rest for the wicked! An agency rang with a one week booking for whole of next week! paying 8.00 per hour! OVER THE MOON! THEN... and its like a miracle... but i've got another temp-to-perm job starting on 1 oct! 9.50 per hour! Talk about things taking a turn for the better! All my recent troubles (lack of money), will be a thing of the past for now.. as this 1 oct job is for a legal sec ongoing.. could be six months.. with a view to them taking me on permanently if I do well! Yay! Yay! Yay!
The only trouble is, the 1 oct job is quite a long way to travel, but its money in the bank, which i'm that desperate now, that I don't care. Also, still to hear from that other job interview and will hear tomorrow. If
I do get that one, which is permanent, I will take it, and ring agency to cancel the long way away job. But all in all, my finances have taken a turn for the better.
Two more weeks, and we would have had to start buying groceries, and paying bills with the credit card!
Hope all are well! x
So pleased for you. Fingers crossed for the permanent job .0 -
Just wanted to add my congrats Jerry. You must be very happy and relieved all at the same time.Herman - MP for all!0

Is there any chance I could join in please? I have tried virtually every diet known to man without success. I've been reading through this thread and I have checked the websites off page 1.
I am desperate to lose weight.
Just a question though. Is this diet expensive to do? I have been tending to fill up on rice, beans and pasta (all allowed on SW diet and cheap). I am on a really strict budget. I have tried to follow SW avidly, but may lose a lb but then put it back on the following week. Real yo yo-ing.
I do cook from scratch and I think I eat healthily, but still very overweight.0 -

Hi and welcome.
Its not a cheap way of eating, as all the cheap fillers are not allowed if you eat Low Carb, but if you eat enough 'good'fat (that sounds bad, as I don't mean you must eat silly amounts)you will not need to eat so much-you will feel fuller for longer. You need less protein than you think you will, but need lots of lovely veggies, especially green ones. Eggs are not too expensive, and you can have lots of those!
Have a good read about the different LC ideas, and see what you think.
It definitely works for me.xxx0 -
Well I have now caught up on the last few days and some interesting discussion. Whilst this is a low carb board I wonder if maybe we should be open to other ideas for comparison and challenge? Shoot me down if you like but it keeps the grey cells working and mine certainly need it!
jerry - so pleased for you; I hope that this opening will lead to long term employment and security :j
daska - sorry about having to add the gluten: does it make you really bloated?
inspirespirit - it can be expensive but can you pick up bargains at the supermarket? Veg are cheap in markets and Lidl / Aldi and eggs are £1 for 6, free range at Iceland. Cheese also goes a long way and tinned fish can be a good buy as well. Many of us can testify to the fact that it works and I am fitter and have more energy since I started this way of eating. I walked up the chine gardens, a steep climb, without stopping when I was away and wasn't out of breath.
However I also have to say that I had a couple of nights of very little sleep , due to wind and stomach cramps. I got fed up with eating salad and decided to have some pasta and a dessert. I guess that there must be a certain point where the extra carbs cause me problems and, at some point, I will have to gauge when this is. Why don't I learn as it really wasn't worth it
sistercas, durham_mim - it will be lonely for a while but when they come back, with all their washing, won't it make those times extra special?
murphydog - no posts from you, are you ok?
Have a good day everyone :wave:0 -

Hi Inspire, welcome to the thread.
Many of us are on limited budgets. I used to spend quite a lot on gluten free products now I use the money to stock up on protein (meat) and vegetables. I find shopping at places like lidl & aldi help to keep costs down and there are cheaper alternatives such as eggs, tins of tuna, sardines, cheese etc. You will probably find you don't spend so much on pasta, rice, bread and so that money could be put towards low carb items.
Hope this helps. There are others on here who have been low carbing much longer than me and will be able to advise much better.
Forgot to mention you feel fuller for longer so end up eating less anyway and that in itself cuts down on costs.Weight loss 0/2st
