nuttybabe - glad to hear from you and welcome back. Sorry about the asthma attack, it can be quite scary
Mercy - busy lady again. Any plans for the weekend?
alias - sounds like the hypnotherapy helped; so glad
jerry - good to know that you are ok. Hard to give up smoking and change eating. How's life?
durham_mim - Hi. It always difficult letting our kids go. My thoughts are with you. Well done on 3lb loss!!
sweet - I have taken murphydog's advice this week and cut out flax mixture. I don't know if it is that but I have lost another 2lb :j That is 6 lb in 19 days, which is pretty amazing for me nowadays. A lb is good but perhaps try and see what happens?
Off away tomorrow until Thursday evening so may not be able to post. Have a good week everyone :hello:
sistercas - where are you?0 -
nutty and Mercy if the pointy cabbage is the same as I buy from Tesco its lovely and hardley any waste on it either. Normally 79p in Tesco when not on offer0
-
aliasjo I hope things continue improving for you after the hypnotist. Getting more sleep must be a good thing to start with0

I just had pointy cabbage with my dinner and I can confirm it's nice - and, well, cabbagey :rotfl:
I also had stuffed chicken thighs, portobello mushrooms, carrots, broccoli, cauli and green beans in a cheese sauce.
Well stuffed now0 -
Well well well done Alias and Nutty and everyone else.
Sorry I've been so quiet recently, firstly I was a tad pre-occupied with holidays and legal shenanigans (which will be ongoing until at least November), and then the GP stuck me on gabapentin and apparently it's my good luck that it's dealing with some of the pain but I'm getting side-orders of insomnia and ataxia - that's "being bleedin clumsy" in real speak.
But anyway, news! The GP wants me to try a low-oxalate diet. Which initially looked to be very bad news but on further investigation appears to fit really well with primal/ low carb - with the exception that I can no longer have my cinnamon mocha with cream after I've put DS2 to bed. But I thought I'd mention it because it ties in quite neatly with what I've been looking at for DS2 given the growing support for the hypothesis that diet influences autistic behaviours AND there seems to be a deal of anecdotal evidence about it helping with ME/CFS, FM, PCOS. But my head hurts when I try to read the detailed bumph, I think the gabapentin is affecting my ability to concentrate - which hasn't been particularly good anyway since I developed ME. Oxalates are higher in vegetables, particularly things like soy (which gives me gyp), legumes, grains, very dark green veg such as spinach(!) but lower in meat and dairy. And as far as I can work out (given that I'm not in a fit state to take in anything from reading the research papers, or even the layman's versions) the oxalates build up in the body and cause various nasty symptoms. So having considered, albeit briefly and in a not particularly informed manner, I've decided to go for it and see if just cutting out those last few high oxalate parts of my diet helps at all. Not at all convinced that it will but the ratio of relative ease v. potential benefit is very temptingMore here if anyone interested.

daska - sorry that you are not too well
I hope that things pick up soon. If you really have side effects to gabapentin then tell your GP and see if there is an alternative or whether it is interacting with any other medication
Off for a few days now so have fun everyone :wave:0 -

I have never heard of oxalate diets, I must read up on this later.
My eldest has autistic tendencies in amongst his difficulties but he can't eat red meat/pork/dairy/fat because of his liver/gallbladder problems. It would be interesting to see if this diet had any effect on him.
No doubt it will take me eons to wade through all the info though.
Another decent night's sleep last night. So much so that I'm up and dressed (unheard of at this time on a Sunday morning usually) and I'm about to head off food shopping.
Get me, I'm acting like a normal organised person. :rotfl:
Have a happy Sunday everyone.Herman - MP for all!0 -
Alias - There's a yahoo group through which you can access accurate information, there's a lot of contradictory info if you go by google. Trying_Low_Oxalates/.
Sheila - Hope you have fun and thank you, gabapentin is one we're trying because the others have also had side-effects, unfortunately I do seem to be quite sensitive to what I ingest. They have, variously, sedated me to the point that I couldn't move, caused exponential weight gain, given me feelings of permanent thrush, made me violent  TBH the pain seems like the better option than any of those. We're hoping that I'll 'adapt' LOL
I'm working on what I can replace it with, I'm not so bothered about the coffee and cinnamon it's the cocoa/chocolate that's going to be a problemEat food. Not too much. Mostly plants - Michael Pollan
