Thanks for the snack suggestions. I was planning on taking nuts but wondered if there was anything else. I've never tried pork scratchings, so will get some before I go. I feel the same about pickled eggs, Matteson's smoked sausage and mayonnaise _pale_ as you do
You could also make some almond crackers to take or take 90% chocolate or little bags of olives (if you eat them).0 -

We have just booked up for a 4 day break in Scotland. We will be staying in a hotel with breakfast and evening meal included. I have read reviews about the hotel and area, apparently there are very few shops nearby. I need to supply myself with snacks and things I can use for lunch over these days. Do you have any suggestions. I know its a bit early, we're not going until the beginning of September, but I want to be prepared. I will be taking with me lactofree cream, bottled water and redbush teabags.
Hiya!
Hard boiled eggs keep without fridge for a week at least so maybe boil up a panfull before you go?
If you have a cool bag and a few of the frozen bricks (maybe asking kitchen to refreeze one overnight, every night? This could be arranged before you go or befriend a nice person when you get there)
-you could take cheeses,
-baby salamis from Lidl are nice.
-Tomatoes keep well outside the fridge
-jar of mixed pickles for condimental reasons
Jar of LC hot dog sausies :j
GG Crispbreads and butter?
nuts and pork scratchings have already been mentioned, how about biltong?

Sure there are many more things too.
I fully understand you wanting to get ideas early - you have to when you eat funny like wot we do :rotfl::beer:

Hi Durham_mim, well done on the weight loss! Snack suggestions:
Olives, almonds, other nuts and seeds. The puffed pork scratchings aren't actually bad at all, a bit like pork quavers, lol. Home bargains sell them as I recall. Pepperami's are low carb too.
Boots online have 25% off atkins shakes and bars at the moment which might be something to consider. They are handy for travelling etc, very filling. The chocolate shake mix works well made into hot chocolate with a dash of cream too.
Strawberries and blueberries keep fine out of the fridge for a few days too.
Hope you're all ok and looking forward to your weekend! I've had a very odd week, topped off by my vegetarian Husband arriving home from work last night with half a pig! Trotters and all! Very fresh, and free (he'd been paid in kind by a farmer he did some IT work for!) but it's a bit overwhelming to say the least, ah well, shouldn't look a gift horse (or pig!) in the mouth! Anyone have a lc pulled pork recipe? I've always fancied having a crack at that so now is probably a good time!
Only 1 lb loss for me this week but hardly surprising as, despite being well behaved with food, I've drank a fair bit of wine. Slapped wrist for me and back on the wagon, until tomorrow when we're going to our boozy carb loving friends house for dinner!! *Sigh*
Ah well, have a good weekend everyone!0 -
Thank you Ellay864. Definitely worth a look.
I've just had dinner - cabbage and green beans from the garden, fried in butter with an omlette with onion and mushrooms and a little cheese.0 -

However, I remain to be convinced that, generally, they are harmful in any way... unless you choke on them.

Thanks Gloomendoom, I can only go by my reaction. Perhaps it is just low carbing that has made the improvement, we'll see.:cool:0 -
durham_mim - I would take crackers, cheese, nuts, seeds, chocolate, nut butter, cucumber, celery and some avocados as all of these will last for a few days without a fridge. Also tinned tuna / fish if you can have it. There are tins with peel back lids which are easy. I like feta and cucumber as a snack sometimes.
cherrypies - 1lb is moving in the right direction so well done
Minihauk - sounds good
nuttybabe - you must eat or you will slip into starvation mode!! Weather looking better next week: let's hope that they are right!
murphydog999 - any luck with the house hunting?
Mercy - have fun chilling out this weekend.
Feel a lot better having stuck to low carbing today
Exercise - 20 wall push ups, power walked for 20 minutes and walked at reasonable pace for 40 minutes. I will have to build up the wall push ups but 20 seemed a reasonable amount to start with.0 -
Thanks everyone for all your help and suggestions. Unfortunately I am lactose intolerant so can't use the atkins shakes or bars. I can however tolerate a couple of squares of 70%+ chocolate so will stock up on that, and the pork scratchings sound nice.
I think I will probably fill up at breakfast and then I should get by with something snacky for lunch. No matter what I'm really looking forward to it, can you tellWe couldn't afford a family holiday this year but OH spotted this offer in the local paper so it really is a treat.
