Well done durham_mim :T
Gray Malkin - you are doing well with your push ups :T
daska, schoolhouse - how are you?
Bad day yesterday as I made cheese scones with the kids and ate 2  Terrible heartburn last night, when will I learn
Definitely back on track today.
Have a good day everyone0 -
Before doing low carb I used to occasionally buy vegetable crisps from Lidl. I just wondered if they are low carb seeing as they are all vegetable with no potatoes. I will check the packet tomorrow to find out the total carbs.
We have just booked up for a 4 day break in Scotland. We will be staying in a hotel with breakfast and evening meal included. I have read reviews about the hotel and area, apparently there are very few shops nearby. I need to supply myself with snacks and things I can use for lunch over these days. Do you have any suggestions. I know its a bit early, we're not going until the beginning of September, but I want to be prepared. I will be taking with me lactofree cream, bottled water and redbush teabags.Weight loss 0/2st

Nuttybabe - thanks for the link. I'll take a look when I get home and try it. Will let you know how I get on.
Murphydog - thank you again for the suggestion to cut out the nightshade foods. Three days back on plan and my pain levels have decreased a lot. Still uncomfortable to walk too far, but generally feeling much better. It is amazing the difference this woe makes to how I feel - no pain and no indigestion or wind
I read somewhere that if tomatoes are cooked they are not so bad. Does anyone know if that is true, please? Just thinking of perhaps adding some to make bolognaise sauce
Well done Durham Mim - way to go!
Sheila - I know what you mean about when will I learn, I always feel much better when eating this way.0 -
If avoiding the so called nightshade foods works for you, that's good.
However, I remain to be convinced that, generally, they are harmful in any way... unless you choke on them.

I got my first ideas from this site http://hundredpushups.com/what.html#alt
I've graduated from the wall to a doorway, and now I'm on a window sill
I will be doing them on the floor sometime this century :T
Thanks for the link, I'll be starting them today, will see if I can manage 100 in one go!! Actually, that may be a bit ambitious so perhaps 10 x 10 over the next few hours
Well done on getting to window sill leveldurham_mim wrote: »We have just booked up for a 4 day break in Scotland. We will be staying in a hotel with breakfast and evening meal included. Whereabouts in Scotland are you going?? Lucky you, I haven't been for ages, hope you have a lovely time.
Btw, congratulations on the 3lb & 0.5" loss!! :T
Regarding snacks, I think I've looked at veggie crisps before & they weren't that low carb unfortunately, worth checking though. Do you like pork scratchings - Home Bargains sell them & also a 'puff' version I think?? Do you eat nuts - small pack of almonds, brazils etc?? Pickled eggs?? _pale_ Matteson's smoked sausage?? _pale_ I'm just trying to think of things that are portable & don't have to be kept in a fridge... Maybe the hotel could put something together for you for a small charge?? If there's a small co-op maybe buy a sandwich filling like egg mayo, ready-made salad etc. If all else fails, stuff yourself silly at breakfast & just hope you can last out until dinner time!!0 -

I guess my reaction to that is "absence of proof is not equal to proof of absence". We're all different, some of us aren't able to eat them without penalty. Personally I know that my pain levels have subsided substantially since cutting out/down on nightshade plants, as have my digestive problems. I also know that other members of my family have digestive problems that have been medically identified as directly relates to consuming plants from that family. So as far as I'm concerned I don't give a bleep whether some doctor wants to think they shouldn't have an effect - I know they do.
Having said that, as I experiment more with my diet it would seem that the real problems come with combining two or more things. So while I can cope with tomatoes on their own or a few chips, tomatoes and wheat (i.e. pizza. pasta with tomato sauce) has quite a dire effect - more so than wheat on it's own. Anyone who wants to claim it shouldn't make a difference is quite welcome to come clear up the mess that results :rotfl:Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants - Michael Pollan

The hotel is near the Trossach's and over looks one of the Lochs.
Thanks for the snack suggestions. I was planning on taking nuts but wondered if there was anything else. I've never tried pork scratchings, so will get some before I go. I feel the same about pickled eggs, Matteson's smoked sausage and mayonnaise _pale_ as you doWeight loss 0/2st

My dh suffered from awful headaches for years which we eventually linked to tomato skins and from there to aubergine skins and pepper skins. He can eat all of them as long as they are peeled. Potatoes don't seem to affect him.
