Hi All!
Newbie here
Can I ask a quick question, when i'm checking the carb content per serving for example...am I checking the total carb content or the "of which sugars"? I am allowed 30g per day (the High Protein Diet - Dr Charles Clark).
Thanks!0 -
Great info Murphydog, thanks for posting it all :T
Been fairly good over the weekend. a mixture of fry-ups, chicken salads, fish, veggies, nuts. Had a couple of glasses of rum with the flavoured spring water from Aldi.
Yesterday:
Brekkie - homemade toasted oat & nut muesli (clean eating not low carb)
lunch- chicken salad with mayo
dinner - fish with baked sweet potato & brocolli
snack - orange (clean eating but not low carb)0 -
Are nightshades potatoes, etc? Will have a quick google to see.

Hi Turtle and welcome. There is some confusion re carb labelling and gross and net carbs. Generally it is total carb content in grams, less fibre content in grams to give you your net carbs. Some sites state net, some gross, without explaining it. The 'of which sugars' will already be included in the total count, so you don't need to count it again.0 -
For those wanting to increase their fats, fibre, minerals, B vits and salt/sodium intake, in a rather enjoyable way.........
50g 85% choc
25g coconut oil
30-40g salted pistachios (or other nuts)
(you might want to make more in volume, but this will get you going!)
Melt choc and oil together, add nuts, stir, cool, eat!! I've got a silicone muffin tray and I spoon the mixture in them and cool in the fridge, they pop out into handy little rounds then.
28g of pistachios will give you this.....
Vitamin A 73.4IU1%
Vitamin C0.6mg 1%
Vitamin D~ ~
Vitamin E (Alpha Tocopherol)0.5mg 3%
Vitamin K3.7mcg 5%
Thiamin 0.2mg 16%
Riboflavin 0.0mg 3%
Niacin 0.4mg 2%
Vitamin B60.4mg 18%

Zinc0.6mg 4%
Copper0.4mg 19%
Manganese0.4mg 18%
Selenium 2.6mcg 4%
12% of daily fibre and only 4g carbs. Plus there is magnesium and lots more in the chocolate.....28g =

Carbs dependant on make.
Plus all the goodness in the coconut oil. VERY easy - makes chocolate go further - but very moorish.:j

As a general rule: on UK packets/websites you just take the carb value and don't subtract anything as the value stated is for net carbs. On american packets/websites you subtract the fibre value from the gross carb value to give you net carbs. (And, as we have previously discovered, you have to allow for whoever was putting the information in to get it the wrong way round LOL.)Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants - Michael Pollan

That's what I meant, but the way I said it could be misconstrued I think0 -
i am feeling rather angelic as hubby is munching his way through a huge packet of crisps and I dont want any. I am however having a glass of wine but as there is now a huge hole in the floor by my front door I think I am allowed!!! lol

Ah well, you know how you feel when you find something that just works for you- that's how I feel about eating this way.
We need to get into the mindset that we are journeying our way through to better eating and not feel like failures when we 'slip up'.
Thanks for your encouragement and for the chocolate recipe. I'm gonna make it tomorrow.0 -
Well, following a relatively carb laden holiday in the sun, I'm now back on the wagon.
I have to say that It was a pleasant change to be able to swim in the sea this year without worrying about prowling whaling ships sighting me on the horizon.0
