Where is everyone? I hope you're all enjoying the lovely sunshine. Its nice and breezy here in W. Midlands which counteracts the heat. I've got prickly heat - but i'm not complaining!

Last night, as predicted, I could not resist the vodka. but I didn't have too many. Just three doubles.. which is excellent for me.

    Today:

    L: celery with cream cheese
D: Lambs liver (11p reduced!) and salad

I've already drank 2 litres of water today. Feeling proud of myself all in all. Don't know if its all in my head, but my skin feels glowy and clearer and my eyes are sparkly. Instead of the usual dull. I've also lost some of the bags under my eyes.

Another bit of great news.. I've got some temp work! I thought the agency had forgotten about me. I've got 6 hours on monday and 3 hours on Wednesday! Whooopi.. That means I can pay the council tax this month !! That's always a worry. As I was in debt last year with the council tax and bailiffs - were a fixture!

Got some really good bargains in Asda, an hour before closing last night.. I wont list them here (wrong thread), but needless to say, i've stocked up on veg and meat and goats cheese!

Today, i've hoovered house from top to bottom, and done 30 mins on exercise bike as well..... now.. where's that halo?

Jerry, jerry, jerry - really good news about the job, you must be relieved :j I try to drink 3 glasses of water before breakfast as it starts me off for the day so I keep 2 glasses by the bed and drink when I wake up. Not sure that I could eat liver and salad though.

Seems that you are all fired up and raring to go so well done you.

Mercy - are you hung over and did you enjoy your rave up?

Busy in garden, shopping and housework today. Been good as not feeling too hungry.

Thanks Murphydog. I was just wondering though, do you find carbs affect you more now you dont have them or do you think you always suffered like it but was so used to it, it was normal?I am wondering if I was always like this and thought it fine or if my reaction to carbs are more severe now that I dont have them.

it's very interesting you bring this up as i have been wondering the same myself ... i have had a couple of carb days this week ( out with mil for a spa day and mil was desperate to go for a pizza hut ... and today we had a chinese lunch as we are now getting ready for our hols)

i have noticed both times i have deff had a reaction to eating the carbs ... energy leaving me stomach very bloated and a sick feeling ... i actually stopped eating the chinese as i had had enough carbs as it was making me feel so sick

i wondered if i had always felt this way when i ate carbs but just wasnt aware of it... i cant remember feeling this way when i ate carbs but maybe i did i'm not sure ... will be more aware of it from now on though

i'm getting ready for my hols and ladies to be honest there is a huge part of me that is dreading it ...

i feel i have been doing so well with my eating ( ok with the exception of the pizza hut and chinese... but i had fat and protein days only for two days after the pizza hut and will do the same for the chinese)

i am going to the u.s.a which as we all know is the capital of eating crap and getting big ...

i am dreading the whole eating issue ... i have issues with leaving things on my plate ( you know the usual upbringing eat it all or you aint leaving the table etc) and the portion sizes in the u.s.a are scary sometimes ... i will do my best to have protein/fat meals with as low carb as i can make it ( hubby is on board with supporting me in this) but i have no doubt that some carbs will sneak in ... and i intend on having a wee drink whilst i am away ... nothing much but a couple a night maybe ( i dont drink alcohol at all so this will be interesting) i used to drink pernod and diet coke ... and i am thinking i will drink this again but i am wondering would i be better with diet coke or ordinary coke as the diet has asparteme in it ... the coke has loads of sugar though ...

it's gonna be a quandry ... i am going to put some weight on i expect to but i dont want to put much on and when i come home i am going to be doing some heavy very lcarbing days for a week or two to try and get my body back into the swing of it all

Hi Elantan - just go for it and enjoy your holiday. Where abouts are you going? LA and New York are very carb aware i've found.. but Florida will be a bit of a problem. If it were me, i'd let my hair down some nights and get back to full lc when I got back.

You only live once. You have probably saved hard for a holiday. Why not enjoy the things you love on holiday?

If its a case of you not wanting carbs, but being unable to avoid.. then I suggest the steak houses. They always do salad. Give the fries to your husband!

They are big on coleslaw over there. Also, creamed spinnach. As you say.. and I agree, their portion sizes, particularly in Florida tend to be large. Therefore, eat all the protein and ask them to hold the fries!

You could avoid the burger buns etc.. and just eat the burger, with all the other trimmings.. with EXTRA mayo! YUM.

I hope you have a wonderful holiday. No matter what you do.. just remember you can always start again any time!

Shrimp and lobster are always a good choice as well, and not as expensive as here!

Have a great time elantan and just try to eat the best that you can. Can you have vodka and slimline tonic or similar and coke affects me, especially when I am not being really good?

Could have vodka Sheila but tbh i dont like it that much and as i dont drink on the very odd occasions i do ( once in 4.5 years so far) i want to ensure it's something i like ... I like pernod , southern comfort, baileys, wine and guinness ... So was going to get a bottle in dutyfree to last me the 3 weeks while we are away

Hi Elantan, out of all of your drinks and if you are worried about aspartame or sugar in mixers, and if you're only going to have a couple of drinks, go for wine, theres only about 3-4 carbs per glass so it's a good option. Pinot Grigio and Sauvignon blanc are good low carb white options, and pretty much any red is fine.

As for food, American restaurants are always really accommodating to changing menu items to suit (unlike a lot of British places who look at you funny if you ask for salad instead of chips with your steak, lol!). Order a burger without a bun, always ask for your dressing on the side as a lot are full of sugar/corn syrup. If you are gonna have carbs, choose wisely, a lot of places do baked sweet potatoes or sweet potato fries which are low GI. Breakfasts are easy as a lot of places are buffet style with loads of bacon/steak/eggs.

If you're worried about portion sizes, choose buffet places where you can serve yourself or a lot of places will serve you a half portion if you ask. I agree with Jerry on the seafood too, lobster dripping in garlic butter... yum!!

Hope you're all ok? Had a busy week and Husband has been working away so I've been busy with the kids. 3lb loss last week which I'm feeling rather good about, hoping for at least another 2 this week. Been out today, managed an hour long walk, went to the pub and didn't have a boozy drink which is our Sat afternoon ritual, just had soda water with lime and felt very virtuous! That said, I'm sat here drinking ice cold Absolut vodka and slimline tonic, mmmmm!

    Food today:

B: Atkins shake (goes against my 'real food' philosophy, only bought as was half price in Julian Graves, but enjoying. They're comforting and filling and it's my TOTM so taking care of my my sweet cravings quite nicely.

L: Picnic on the beach, Half an avocado stuffeed with peppercorn Boursin, some Waitrose wafer thin ham, olives, feta, cucumber cubes.

D: Chicken salad with Pizza Express House dressing.

    Snack: Walnuts, cheese cubes.

Jerry. is that all you've eaten today? I'd be starving!!! Do you snack as well or is that your lot?

<snip> My alcohol consumption is my only weekness and if I could give it up, I know my life would be better all round. <snip>

If you can't give it up, don't beat yourself up over it.

I used to drink lager at the pub and red wine at home. Now i have moved on to vodka and diet coke at the pub and Gin and diet tonic at home.

I know there are issues with artificial sweetener in diet coke but i am prepared to put up with that. The one thing i would say is buy yourself a spirit measure so that you can make sure your long drinks have just one unit of alcohol and avoid doubles in the pub.

I am still losing weight even with the alcohol.
