My problem with the 5 meals is I couldn't face them. It felt that no sooner had I eaten one, there was another. Eating out when say shopping was problematic as everything is BREAD!

I haven't had a crumb of bread since I started SW 6 weeks ago, neither has hubby and we're amazed that we are not really missing it as we both feel so much better.

I know what you mean about bread being everywhere when you're out. I usually pick a jacket potato with beans or something with cous cous or even pasta.

I am just about to make a huge pot of Dyno-rod Soup (or Beanfeast soup as the more genteel call it:rotfl::rotfl:). I haven't tried it before but I am making loads so I can freeze it and have instant lunches ready when needed.

It's the perfect day for soup-making - raining!!;)

    Hi

elantan - I really hope that the job hunting pays dividends

I am on a fairly reasonable budget but have to watch money as most of it goes to pay bills. It will be better in 7 years when I have finished paying off my mortgage. I believe that we all make choices with how we spend our money and it is up to us if we want to buy good food to keep us healthy. I buy some veg etc from Lidl, shop for reduced food bargains and yet will pay a bit extra for free range chickens and eggs. I have friends who smoke, drink, use cannabis and yet still complain that they have no money for food, clothes etc.

Padstow - don't feel bad as you are just looking after your wellbeing. I really hope that things get better for you soon.

durham-mim - please can I have a link to your blog and the onion bhagees?

sistercas - if you like oily fish, bacon and egg then go for it. Don't think that I could eat them together myself though

I walked through M&S yesterday morning and they were reducing loads of food. I got salmon, chicken, gammon and veg for half price and was very happy. They are also doing 3 deli items for £6 so got 100g smoked salmon in tiny pieces, 275g grated mature cheddar and a pack of chicken thighs. I use 20g of smoked salmon with scrambled egg for breakfast over 5 days and the rest as needed. Loads of other items in offer.

Thank you for all of your useful posts and have a good day :)

Good luck Elantan on the job applications!

I'm not really doing 5 meals a day, that's what a lot of fitness peeps recommend when doing intensive workouts but It's more like 3 smaller meals and 2 substantial snacks.

I aim for 8am brekkie, 1.30am snack, 2.30pm lunch, 4.30pm snack...workout in the evening, dinner about 8.30pm. Seems to be going OK and I don't feel hungry despite my gym routine.

Does anyone wkno what Maca is? A fitness friend on Twitter recommended it but 140 characters isn't very much to explain what it is and how to cook it :rotfl:

Yesterday looked like this (bear in mind I'm clean eating not a strict low carber):

Brekkie - homemade toasted oat & nut muesli with almond milk (not low carb)
Snack - nuts and a piece of cheese
    Lunch - chicken salad
    Snack - strawberries
    Dinner - sausage, egg, tomatoes

avstar, see this link, hope it helps http://www.maca.co.uk/

I have also never heard of it before!

I see that a few people here have a fairly carby breakfast and then no- or low-carb during the day, it is much the same as I do as a maintenance regime and I have even lost a bit of weight slowly doing this. Feeling reassured by sensible posts after all that "madness" of a few days ago. Thank you!
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).

I agree, when you are out and about around lunch time, and think where can I go to eat, it's either, ooooh, lets have a think........nowhere, or somewhere where you have to say 'i'll have that but without that, and none of that', to end up with virtually nothing.

I'm surprised no-one has started a low-carb cafe franchise, if I had any idea about retail catering I'd be really up for it.

I pretty much have fruit for breakfast most days, plus added protein to slow the sugar release and fat to fill me up from yogurt, a dash of double cream, and chopped nuts and seeds.

There are some nice dark plums around at the mo, 1 is approx 7g net carbs with a few berries and some cinnamon, it's a nice breakfast. Always good to have your carbs early in the day.

PS I splurged out on Tesco finest greek yogurt this week, one of the lowest carb counts per 100g, at 4.5g, I've seen, it's unbelievably thick and creamy. It's 50p more than their normal greek yog, but worth it if you've found a bargain elsewhere - or not. :o (Don't want the food police going off on one! ;))

I do the opposite , I tend to have a fat/ protein breakfast and then add carbs to lunch and tea.
a fat/ protein breakfast fills me up much better than a carby one , i go around 6 hrs between breakfast and lunch when im working and if i have a carb breakfast im hungry around 10am and end up snacking

I've been experimenting and have managed to make flax 'chapatis' for those who want to have a different texture in their diet. Recipe is on my blog.

i have to admit i have a more carby breakfast myself ... i have this as i am currently not allowed coffee anymore and need the energy boost ... i also add some seeds and oil to it so that i am having my fat as well ... just dont get any protein into it

    my breakfast tends to be

bowl of porridge with a table spoon of sunflower seeds , table spoon of oatbran , table sppon of fibre, two teaspoons of flax seed oil and whole fat milk

it lasts me a wee while maybe 3 hours before i am hungry again .. i try to make that my carbs for the day if i am not working and if i am working one of my carbs of the day ... if it is one of my night shift carbs i cut out the oatbran and fibre and have a smaller porridge portion
