Yay! A fellow Lymey to chat to. Although there are plenty of us I don't seem to be in touch with that many. Look forward to supporting each otherWeight loss 0/2st

Gloomendoom - you have done well. I also am having more of a problem to lose although I still have a bit to go. Maybe our bodies adjust and, when we get nearer to goal, just hang on to it. However, as most people know, I have lost 6 stone 6 lb and have no intention of putting it back again. I managed to put on 2lb on holiday by being quite good but with an ice cream each day and one small bowl of pasta. Lost it the next week and then a bit more so don't worry
Thanks. I think you may be right. I will not be so strict while on holiday and I fully expect to put on a couple of pounds. However, I think it may actually be beneficial because it will be more of a shock to my system when I start being strict again.0 -

I've lost 2st 5lb and Mrs G has lost just 6lbs.
We eat the same food and Mrs G is, if anything, stricter than me as she doesn't drink beer or chocolate (85%.) She also does more exercise. However, there are differences. Mrs G wasn't "overweight" when we started, just heavier (fatter) than she wanted to be. I, on the other hand, was officially overweight.
I have now dropped to being just a half stone heavier than I want to be and progress has slowed to a snail's pace.
From this I have concluded that low carbing is a very effective way to lose weight if you are a fatty but not so good if you are just trying to get trim for vanity's sake.
The low carb thing was an experiment, we signed up for six months to see how it went. Both of us intend to carry on with the low carb lifestyle... although we are off on holiday soon and I suspect I may temporarily fall off the wagon at some point.
I'm sure people will associate with this. What we don't know from your figures (unless you have been tested) is what exactly the loss was from, water, fat, muscle mass? This will have a bearing on your health, not just the scales, or the way your clothes fit. What you don't want it to be is muscle mass - and Mrs G & D will have kept hers going with workouts - what you also don't want is water and muscle mass, and no, or very little, fat.
It is generally accepted that the fatter you are the easier it is to loose, and if you have been doing the same thing for a period of time and stalled, you need a bit of a shake up. I'm like Mrs G & M, lost 5kg (10lbs) since November (put on by eating take-aways whilst house renovating), which is all I needed to loose. Slow, yes, but enjoying my food, and the general direction is downwards. There are observations that the body has a 'setting point,' after a big loss, or it feels it is best for you as it is - to stop going too far the other way! If you do have more to loose, the holiday might be your 're-set' point. I'm trying to think where I read it........0 -

I am walking quite a bit and running up and down the stairs , some days more than others. I think push ups are out of the question
Would walk more today if it weren't for the rain.
Sorry that you have hit a brick wall.
sistercas - come on you know that you can do it but I know that it is hard sometimes!0 -
Oats are not low carb at all.
I hope all you reading this realise that fact and do not let the fact that some people eat them fool you into thinking oat's are low carb. They are not.
Edwardia had a point there, and so I too will be pointing out ideas which do not belong here.
Wouldn't want anybody to get the wrong idea

Hi Mercy, Maybe you missed my return to this thread post. I used to do strict low carb a couple of years ago so I know all the rules.
I said when i joined back on this thread that I don't do strict low carb any more, I do my own version of clean eating which is basically low carb but does allow a limited amount of oats and sweet potato type low GI carbs.
Sorry if that means I shouldn't be on this thread. But as I eat mainly meat, salad, veg & dairy I kind of am low-carb and feel more comfortable here than the other 'diet' threads. I don't eat sugar substitutes or fake carbs at all. I do clean eating.
Anyhoo back to low carb
Lidl this week have a couple of offers of interest.
British turkey steaks - 375g pack - £1.49
Cherry plum tomatoes 250g pack - 50p0 -
And I actually like reading all the different varieties of low carb we all do. I take info and inspiration that applies to me, as I'm clean eating I don't do processed sugar substitutes etc but I just skip past those posts.
I will add a note to my oat type posts tho to avoid confusion for newbies.
Yesterday looked like this
Brekkie - homemade toasted oat & nut muesli (sorry, the dreaded oats! *clean eating but not low carb*)
lunch - homemade veg curry (string beans, courgettes, leeks, tinned toms, onion, garlic & spices)
Tea - spicy roast chicken & a salad
snack - a few hazlenuts
Drinks - water & green tea
If anyone is interested I did a blog post about my 'diet' and its guidelines here
I also do high intensity workouts 4 or 5 times a week so I burn off the low GI carbs doing that. I prob should have explained myself a bit better, sorry.0 -
Hi I've been a bit put off posting lately too, since I follow the Dukan plan, and it specifies oatbran. The amount I have (when I remember) is less than 20carbs. And usually spread over 2 snacks. About the same as 150g mixed berries drenched in cream.
Other than that I don't count my carbs but just follow the plan, which is also low fat, therefore frowned upon. But other than the oatbran it's just meat / dairy / eggs / fish / veg.
I don't see why we all have to conform to the same eating plan. I don't like the same kind of foods as everyone else, and not sure why anyone should see that as a problem.
But that's just my opinion...Bossymoo

I never thought it could happen to me, but Edwardia, life turns on a sixpence and it could happen to any one of us. Be grateful, not smug.
It happened to me in the spring of 1992 when I was made redundant from my job as a senior midwife and that coincided with widowhood. I was left with a mortgage to pay and no job. That may have been where I really started to pile on weight.
Now, I think I've moved on from low-carb per se and am trying to follow Zoe Harcombe's principles.
