Mojisola.. I have had allotments in the past but the novelty wore off and I got bored with digging and weeding by myself :( I do grow herbs organically in both garden and kitchen though. In an emergency I would quickly run out of veg however.

Although my larder cupboard is stuffed full, it's mostly things like dried herbs, spices, vinegars, oils, ghee, organic stock cubes, passata, tinned tomatoes, tinned pimento-stuffed olives, Polish mint tea, Brooke Bond Taj Mahal loose tea, nuts and seeds plus OH's Oreo cookies and oat cakes. There's literally only one tin of Spanish white asparagus spears and a tin of artichoke hearts, veggie wise.

Whereas my mother does PYO fruit and veg and freezes them, I've never had room for a huge freezer so instead of veg our freezer is stuffed full of veal mince, ducks' legs, poussins, wild rabbit, salmon etc.

I do have stashes of Evian, Lactofree and Butcher's dog food though :D

Mojisola - I have lentils, nuts, seeds, tinned tomatoes, a tinned bolognese sauce from M&S, tuna in olive oil, coconut flour and coconut oil, mayonnaise and herbs / spices in my cupboard as I just went to look. In the freezer I have free range chicken, organic mince and fish so I think that I would get by.

I remember when my children were small I would often run out of money at the end of the month and would improvise with what I had and it was surprising what came out of it.

Edwardia - do you buy the UHT Lactofree milk and , if so, how does it taste? Suppose that you could eat the dog food as a last resort x

murphydog999 - Madam, the very thought! What do you take me for :D Hope that you didn't mind me namedropping but you are wise about these matters. I am trying to walk more, use stairs instead of lifts etc. but maybe I should have a go at some of the exercises that you mention. What do you think?

I am willing to try most things but don't want to make the neck, back, hernia worse. Are there any that you would limit, bearing that in mind?

Unfortunately without seeing you and assessing your 'predicaments' I wouldn't like to comment. You know your own body, so start slowly, start around 5-10 reps, and see how you feel.

Tesco turned up early, we sorted freezer, added organic diced beef, venison grill steaks, wild Alaskan salmon. Discovered OH had been removing duck legs and not updated the number :(

Sheila54 I would have to be very hungry and quite possibly insane, to eat 23 cans of Butcher's tripe  Dog looks ecstatic, he knows where his food is kept and he wagged furiously fast as more went in there.

UHT Lactofree doesn't taste different to me but I'm used to it. However when stash used up am considering switching to organic UHT which is 1 carb more per 100ml but 39p per litre cheaper in Sainsbos !

    That's what I was thinking!

Actually, I've never found the Butchers dog food appealing but Dog sometimes gets the posher ones when they're on offer and some of those look quite appetising.

Mercy - any luck with those home-made scotch eggs?

Not actually started down that road yet. :rotfl:

I can't use sausies much as such as I don't do wheat. Got pork mince in but reluctant to defrost till I have enough time to do it properly. May be tomorrow. I'm making 2nd batch of sauerkraut but that's all prep so will have to see what time i can be bothered starting 'cooking' :D

Thinking of using mixed herbs in meat mix, salt and pepper. Actually, if I do them tomorrow that's a few days meals.

How long do they last? 3 days?

My dog is really spoiled, he gets actual duck, rabbit, steak, chicken, pheasant, trout etc leftovers.

There does seem a similarity to me between tinned dog food and Fray Bentos pies and not in a good way. I could never eat something like that.

Watched Gok Wan do salt and pepper chilli squid on catch-up and thought at last something low carb, but when I looked for a recipe on the relevant Channel 4 scrapbook page it wasn't there :(

OH not well, postponing shopping until tomorrow. Really only need veg as didn't get all the organic stuff on the Tesco delivery (it was on offer and I had Clubcard points).

Got the chickens (but they don't lay many eggs over the winter when most emergencies would happen), got the big freezer so that would tied us over (as long as the electricity held up), got the veg plot (again, not so much available over the winter).

Spam - I think I'd rather go hungry! HEEHEE

I suppose some tinned veg, meat and fish is the best standby with a fall-back of non-LC like rice, etc.

What I don't want to do is have non-LC stuff in the cupboard that we have to keep using up to keep it within dates.

The cupboard looks so bare compared to pre-LCing days.

Did you all know that if your freezer packs in, the only food the insurance will coff up for is what you have reciepts for?

KEEP ALL RECIEPTS FOR FROZEN FOOD

The cupboard looks so bare because it is. Don't forget the lentils as stand by. Many a good poor stew has been enriched in such a fashion. :rotfl:

Also if I've not made myself clear, keep receipts as they will not pay out if you don't.
