Mercy - I just had to google Mooli coz I didn't have the faintest idea what it was, lol - interesting, looks like white carrots. I'm sure I've seen them in the asian grocery stores near me, but wouldn't know how to prepare/cook them. What do they taste like? Well done on the non-smoking, too btw.
First full week back and I've lost 2lbs. I'm sure it would have been more, but I've been drinking gallons of tea with regular milk. Still, it took me decades to reach this weight, not all going to come off too quickly. I'm in this for life. I may have a few hiccups along the way, but it is for life now that I know how and why I got to this.
Confession - I've never tried sauerkraut. If I buy it from a Polish shop will it taste like it should? (Just to try you understand...)0 -
Bought some gf oats yesterday so now I can have bakewell porridge without any nasty side affects.
DD2 is 18 today and we are going out for a family meal tonight. She has chosen to go to a carvery so will have to be disciplined and resist the lovely potatoes and yorkshire puddings. Dessert isn't a problem for me as I'm used to not having one now, most of them contain lactose so I'm not able to have them.Weight loss 0/2st

I've been lurking in this thread for awhile, thought I should say hello.
I used to low carb a few years ago and had good results (mainly health wise, but also weight was lowest in years) from it, but I've slipped back into carbs. With my mother recently being diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, I have decided I need to cut those out again. Plus some weight loss would be a welcome side effect.
I'm not strictly low carbing yet as I'm trying to clear my storecupboard of things such as porridge, don't want to just throw it away and my DH won't eat it. Once it runs out, I am a bit stuck on what to replace it with though. I used to have low carb yoghurt but now can't have dairy or soy. Needs to be convenient and portable, as I eat breakfast when I get to work. Thinking perhaps of making up a big frittata at the weekend and portioning it.
Did manage to serve a low carb lunch to guests yesterday without any complaints, so quite pleased with that. :TI can't use sausies much as such as I don't do wheat.
Try the Debbie and Andrew 97% pork sausages. Wheat and gluten free, absolutely delicious. Currently on offer in Mr T for £2 per pack, I've even picked them up whoopsied a few times.0 -

I rarely do sausages either because of the fillers. In fact when I was looking at Jody Scheckter's Laverstoke Park sausages on the Abel and Cole website yesterday I was rather stunned to see ferrocyanide listed as an ingredient of the rusk.
Maybe I don't need to be quite as alarmed as I was, because I don't for a minute think the former F1 world champ would put any nasty in his products if he could avoid it, but normally you just see Rusk as an ingredient rather than rusk (ingredients).
If you see sausages labelled bangers not sausages this means they have a very low meat content and cannot be labelled sausages.
Personally, the only ham I've seen which doesn't contain preservatives etc is Prosciutto di Parma. Haven't been able to find any bacon so far, without nitrates, though I know that in USA and Canada this can be bought.
Had too many rather delicious shell-on wild North Atlantic prawns this afternoon .. mmmm.. thank goodness prawns are low carb !0 -
I'm feeling stuffed, just had a huge (by my current standards LOL) indian takeaway. Mmmmmmmmm... No rice, no carbs, no breads, just a shashlik and veggie side dishes (okra, spinach and mushroom) so probably not too bad carb wise. Washing it down with a glass of 'I can't believe it's not cider' and feeling very mellow indeed, I think I may have been somewhat liberal with the vodka LOL.
Mercy - pickled garlic is dead simple, spit the bulbs into cloves, put in a jar with coriander seed and a chilli and cover with wine vinegar. If I spot the book I go the original recipe from I'll dig out the more detailed instructions.
Have just baked Snow White, Happy and Grumpy and WOW! Carousel isn't looking too happy though, it's one of their cheaper tins and I think the non-stickness isn't quite up to the standard of the other tins I have.Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants - Michael Pollan

Morning all.. well I was supposed to be going to see my mother today but Ma needs to go on an emergency trip to the dentist.
I have found that by joining The Soil Association I get all sorts of discounts and so I can get 10% off at Laverstoke ParkI have to try the 75% cocoa buffalo milk chocolate
and of course the nitrate free bacon.

Not necessarily our local butcher labels his bangers , because it goes with the name of the town lolVuja De - the feeling you'll be here later0 -

I almost bought a house in Laverstoke 20 years ago. Very nice there. And looks as if they'll deliver to meLet us know whether their stuff is as good as it sounds.
