Obviously, i will have to eat some carbs, whilst in Italy, so I wondered if there is a way to lessen the bloating/uncomfortable effects of it- if I have a small portion of pasta, with lots of veg or salad, does the salad bit help to compensate at all??? I also intend to eat ice-cream!!
I've not eaten any starchy carbs since I started this way of eating, I've been surprised how little I want to eat them, so its bound to have a bit of an effect on my body.
Also, I have to be on a coach for 4 hours or so before I fly, so was thinking that if I have an omelette before I go, I could have a cooked breakfast for lunch (or meat/salad) at the airport before I fly.
Any ideas??
I think you might find things a bit uncomfortable after so long without grains. I had really bad stomach pains the morning after I had some really tasty bread with my evening meal (at a posh restaurant, had to really!), served me right, should have known.
I had a poppodom with an indian meal on saturday and sunday morning I was as bloated as anything and 1lb heavier. For me it just isn't worth it. Good luck!!0 -
daska - meds often do mess with weight loss unfortunately. Some because they suppress appetite, some because they encourage weight gain. Hope you're having a good day !
ThanksI'm relieved. It's one thing to read that low carb diets are better for the liver in a couple of studies and another to be looking at high liver enzymes and hoping the theory works on me
A drop from 96 to 75 in four weeks seems pretty good. If I can drop 25 points to 50 in next 6 weeks before test I'll then be healthy on every health marker there is
The trousers I bought two weeks ago are now loose enough around the waist that I can pull em off over my hips  Size 14 here I come ???0 -

Bossymoo thanks for defining oopsies
Something else to try albeit with 'mock' cheese for now.
I thought great aubergine lasagne, something else to try and cook(getting far too adventurous here) then I came to a mental stand still, if I am using aubergine to replace the lasagne and um aubergine to replace the meat lol is it still a lasagne?
Edwardia you sound pleased/relieved at your test results Must confess I haven't done much research into numbers re this if I am told they are good to go so to speak I accept that. I always seem to concentrate on the CRP results, typically normal is below 7, average result is usually around 12 and once 179!!!
marbett well done on the weight loss and for being rash
I am also glad you raised the issue re having to consume carbs and what affect it will have. How long have you been off the carbs? I am hoping that because it has only been a couple of weeks for me that I may get away with it ?? I also think that I am also going to have to compromise and eat meat during the period i am away
daska-commiserations on putting on weight. It is a real downer when that happens despite best efforts.
Edwardia you need to stop buying clothes for a few weeksYou will need a 10 soon
As for me 3 lb gone. Funnily enough I don't feel elated or flat. Think I was hoping for more but reason tells me 3lb is reasonable but then i tell myself it has got to be water (especially as I don't drink enough) Let's see what next week brings. Happy bunny as now have food in cupboard that I can eat again albeit the same old plus(block your ears daska) a bag of brazil nuts

how about using mushrooms to replace the meat and aubergine or those egg sheets I mentioned a few pages back to replace the pasta?

:hello: Permission to come aboard?
I've been lurking on here for a little while now, and want to thank you all for the good ideas and encouragement. :T
Re aubergine lasagne - I use sliced aubergine dipped in egg and coated in grated parmesan, then fried. I make a meatless one (though I'm not vegetarian) using a mixture of peppers, courgettes, garlic , onion and tomatoes and Gia sundried tomato paste. I make a "white sauce" with soured cream and pilly. The first time I made it OH ate half the aubergine slices straight out of the pan before they got near the lasagne dish! :rotfl:
I've been lc'ing since last November and I'm almost at my target weight now. Just need to lose the jelly belly0 -
Welcome Grey Malkin ! I like the aubergine-egg-Parmesan idea that's ingenious..:T for weight loss
daska that's fantastic too well done :T
devildog - the CRP test is for inflammation. When you had the 179 number were you low carbing ? Low carb is supposed to be anti-inflammatory. I have 13 tests every three months so I'll have to ask if I've had that ! The doctor doing research in TO told me that the B and T cells which fight colds & flu also fight inflammation in fat cells.
I've been low carbing since 2010, but only cut from 100g max to 50g max in December. I get physically ill if I eat carbs but I imagine that's because I have diabetes. I'm also thinking that I'm losing now because I'm no longer having Glimeperide which was forcing my pancreas to make more insulin. In other words YMMV (your mileage may vary) It wouldn't surprise me if someone who hadn't eaten any food group for months had a bit of a reaction though.
Weight loss for daska too :T
murphydog999 thank you xx I'd be happy at 14 really happy at 12 (size in 1994)
L - Buffalo mozzarella, mixed salad (everything but kitchen sink) then cherries.
sheila54, shebrett, andrewsmum, sweaty betty, mercy, schoolhouse, angelfeathers where are you ? pull up a sunlounger and have a low carb cocktail !0 -
marrbett - never used almond flour myself, a lot of people use soya flour.
Just noticed you're going to Italy on Saturday same as Sheila54 ! Fibre and fat would slow down carb absorption so wholewheat pasta in a cream sauce might be less of a prob ? If you haven't eaten it for a long long time though your body might react. Have a fantastic time !!
Fantastic job on the weight loss !!!!
Thanks Edwardia, its slow but steady weightloss, which feels right to me.
I haven't eaten anything grainy or starchy for about a month, so might try a small potato or small amount of pasta over the next few days to try to help my stomach acclimatise. I'm not worried about the weight gain, just the suffering!!!
Sheila- I fly from Stansted on Saturday- where are you going from? I'm going to Bergamo, not too far from Lake Garda.
I saw some coconut flour in Holland & Barret, so might get some to try in cooking- does it taste very coco-nutty?
I have to say this is such a lovely thread to be part of,it feels like we are there for each other, thanks to you all:j!0 -

Longley Farm cottage cheese with chives www.longleyfarm.com is £1 in ASDA. 6% fat, made with British full fat milk and cream, with chives and onion 0.8% salt, no additives and it's 2.2g carbs per 100g. Liked it.
I love the longley farm cottage cheese but I like the plain 'full fat' one. I ordered 4 tubs in my todays Asda delivery for the week, but it was unavailable so I was0
