Edwardia If you can get to a pharmacy it's worth asking the pharmacist, they have the discretion to sell it in larger quantities, you might have to explain why you need larger quantities but if you can get a tame one it really helps. I used to have to buy paracetamol for DS2's dad and always popped in to see if the right pharmacist was on duty because otherwise it meant trailing round to get them. Good luck with the results, have everything crossed for you.
sheila no need to apologise sweetie, it's manageable and I'm way better off than those who are bed bound. I get a lot of help from SS because DS2 is lovely but quite a handful, being special'n'allAs long as I don't get too enthusiastic about doing things I'm on a pretty even keel most of the time, problem is that, like every other person I've met with this d****** illness, sitting still doesn't come easily.

Angelic, please be a good little troll and go post somewhere else. No-one using the low carb thread is remotely interested in lasagne, we don't eat pasta.0

I just checked out the alternative Stevia supply link from the previous page, and copied this, as it backs up what I was saying about purity and taste. It's also cheaper than amazon, even though mine came from Germany as well!
Rebaudioside A has the best sensory attributes among them: it is the sweetest one and appears to be the least bitter ingredient. If the stevia products contain nearly pure rebaudioside A or stevioside, no bitter flavour is noticeable.
Stevia products can taste both sweet and bitter at the same time - while the first effect is desired, the second one understandably is not. The general rule is: the lesser the purity, the lesser the sweetness and the larger the bitter effect. Products with a smaller purity are cheaper, but there is no practical use for them.
If stevia products are offered without a specification of the purity of the steviol glycosides, it is not possible to anticipate how they taste, and it may be wasted money to buy them.
I looked at the ingredients in Truvia, and it lists Erythriyol first with no mention of the percentage of Rebaudioside, which is a bit suspect - see above. It's partly owned by Coca-Cola.......0 -
Angelic - I am sure that Edwardia misunderstood your post as she is really very nice. I know that someone, I think bossymoo?, made an aubergine or courgette lasagne and liked it so go for it and let us know how it goes please as we are always looking for new ideas.
murphydog999 - thanks for reinforcing the Stevia gold, will try it and see as I ordered from the link I posted yesterday. Even better if it is cheaper than Amazon.
mazzers - did you have a good day sunning yourself yesterday?
daska - you sound really positive about ME but I know that there are days when it can be very debilitating so well done you. I understand about sitting still as I hate being confined, it is so hard.
Edwardia - fingers crossed for today and please let us know how you get on
devildog - good luck with weighing today.
bossymoo - thanks for the recipe, might give it a go. I wonder why you have more success on Dukan?
sistercas - I am also well hydrated
Wonder where Mercy is?
Have a great day everyone and keep smiling0 -
I practically live on moussaka these days haha!
Make up your ragout, chicken and peppers is nice in a tomato base. Or bolognese if you prefer. Jarred sauces can have added sugar so maybe try making your own? Stock, chopped toms and tom puree with some herbs?
Slice up aubergines, is actually a lot easier to eat if they are in rounds rather than cut lengthways (and easier to fit the shape of your dish!). Grill or nuke these so they soften a bit, or they can be a bit tough.
I do make a fake bechamel: philly cheese warmed in lactofree milk or cream, then whisk an egg in till it thickens.
Layer up meat and aubergine in dish, as many layers as you like.
Top with the 'bechamel' and some grated cheese.
Bake until golden and bubbling.
Eat!
I make really big ones and freeze in portions so I don't have to cook on my in office days. In fact, I've defrosted one for tonight!
Scratted around at 6am this morning for something to bring to work so goodness knows what is in the pack up bag...Bossymoo

Angelic - I apologise for being rude and taking you at post value. In my defence however I will point out that you hadn't posted here before, asked about a pasta dish and told us that you wouldn't be using cream. If you had been clearer, then I wouldn't have assumed you were a troll. I apologise for being rude.
bossymoo - that moussaka recipe sounds yummy !
murphydog999 - I get cynical about any product marketed by food and beverage giants as natural. Aquafina bottled water from PepsiCo and Dasani from Coca-Cola are both bottled purified tap water ! They've poured millons into marketing and as a result they sell huge quantities in the US. So IMO they see a market, they have the finances to be able to market heavily and have distribution networks already so their products are readily available BUT like you say they may not be good products
devildog - let us know how the weigh-in goes
daska - big hug ((((((daska))))))
sistercas - you get a big hug too ((((((sistercas)))))) chin up

Morning all, have been busy the last few days, so have not posted. Anyway, I've been rash and booked flights to visit my sister in italy on Sunday for 3 nights! I just don't do spur of the moment things, but must admit, its lots of fun.
Anyway, I'm very pleased to report that I've now lost a stone, with just a half stone to go to reach my target! Its going down slowly, sometimes now just a lb a week, but thats good, and my 'ripples(!)'are diminishing, which was the bit I was most unhappy about.
Obviously, i will have to eat some carbs, whilst in Italy, so I wondered if there is a way to lessen the bloating/uncomfortable effects of it- if I have a small portion of pasta, with lots of veg or salad, does the salad bit help to compensate at all??? I also intend to eat ice-cream!!
I've not eaten any starchy carbs since I started this way of eating, I've been surprised how little I want to eat them, so its bound to have a bit of an effect on my body.
Also, I have to be on a coach for 4 hours or so before I fly, so was thinking that if I have an omelette before I go, I could have a cooked breakfast for lunch (or meat/salad) at the airport before I fly.
Any ideas??0 -
Hi,
I've not posted before so howp no-one minds my asking a question:o
Has anyone made an aubergine lasagne? I'm thinking of trying one next week and have found a great recipe for one although ik'm not a fan of sauces so will leave the cream out.
I love making aubergine lasagne, my recipe is to flour, egg and fry the aubergine slices, then use instead of pasta, its sooooo delicious. The problem is that flouring them would now be out of the question- would ground almonds work instead, or be just bleugh??0 -
marrbett - never used almond flour myself, a lot of people use soya flour.
Just noticed you're going to Italy on Saturday same as Sheila54 ! Fibre and fat would slow down carb absorption so wholewheat pasta in a cream sauce might be less of a prob ? If you haven't eaten it for a long long time though your body might react. Have a fantastic time !!
Fantastic job on the weight loss !!!!
B - small Hass avocado, half with ASDA walnut oil, half with Hurstwood Farm virgin cold-pressed cobnut oil. Plus 250g carton of Longley Farm chives cottage cheese
Longley Farm cottage cheese with chives www.longleyfarm.com is £1 in ASDA. 6% fat, made with British full fat milk and cream, with chives and onion 0.8% salt, no additives and it's 2.2g carbs per 100g. Liked it.
ASDA walnut oil tastes really walnutyFor the Supreme Champion at the Great Taste Awards in 2010 I felt the cobnut oil though cold-pressed virgin, didn't actually taste of much ! OH paid 13.90 for 250ml !!! www.cobnutoil.co.uk

This is not on, I'm putting on weight! Fingers crossed it's just my body adjusting to not taking the meds... But I am going to cut out the berries and nuts for the moment, I know I've said this before but I mean it this time
Edwardia congratulations :j
marrbett I'd be tempted to try not flouring them with anything, otherwise my suggestion would be coconut flour. Have a gelato for me while you're there, I do miss the regular business trips I used to do to Milan...Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants - Michael Pollan
