Bedsdriver - I have the Lord Nelson green tea with vanilla from Lidl also, agree it's mellower than plain green tea (mine is Duchy Originals from Waitrose).
mazzers -sunshine in Wales ?? My parents used to take me to Gwynedd twice a year as a kid and it seemed to rain constantly  I digress.. you fell off the LC horse as it were but you got straight back on, well done ! :T
murphydog999 - is that Living Low Carb by Fran McCullough or the Jonny Bowden one please ? I want to add it to my next Amazon list along with the Stephen Phinney book which daska recommended, The Art and Science of Low Carboydrate Living.
Please do explore the leptin resistanceI recall that Dr Robert Lustig says that leptin and insulin share the same pathway to the brain and that if you have too much insulin sloshing about then the leptin doesn't get there to tell the brain the fat cells are full.
Mercy - how's the fermenting going ?
sistercas - fennel toothpaste sounds yummy I lurve fennel. You say you're struggling, what do you think the matter is ?? But well done you for persevering :T
shebrett - thanks for that ! Not sure where I'll get jojoba oil here but I'll give it a bash !0 -
Morning everyone, what a lovely day
Had a good day catching up with family and friends yesterday and drank only water. Canapes in the evening were rather carby but I ate quite a few cashew nuts, not ideal but I didn't want blinis, blobs of stuff on toast etc. Nice lunch with my brother and family and had sea bream with mediterranean roasted vegetables. I wonder what they cooked it in though as the sauce was oily and looked like it had soy sauce with it which I am trying to avoid.
Edwardia - are you teasing me again (((Edwardia)))
ssshh don't mention the word calorie.. low carbers don't calorie count so I just altered my signature Mercy and I both had to go bold to remind sheila54 before I get grey hairs (((sheila54)))
sistercas - good to see you posting again. How are things with you? Also where do you get your fennel toothpaste from please?
Mercy - what are you up to today?
Questions for anyone
a) do you get a pain over the area of your pancreas when you drink or eat certain things?
b) I am getting a lot of sourness and stomach discomfort and wondered if anyone had any ideas? I take omeprazole to subdue the stomach acid already and really don't want to up the dose again but it is making me feel nauseous and uncomfortable.
bossymoo - strange that you lose on Dukan but not low carb. Good luck with whatever you do.
mazzers - you seem to be doing well so keep it up;)
I am off on holiday on Saturday as we have decided to go then rather in the summer as it is cheaper and the kids are off school. Taking our flags and bunting to decorate the mobile home with. Think that I will try to keep low carb but eat the occasional ice cream, if my stomach doesn't rebel! I will be self catering but may eat out a couple of times and am hoping that they will have fish or chicken with veg. I know that Italy has a lot of pasta and pizza but they should have other items as well? It will be a challenge as I love pasta and that will be what the others have as it is cheap and filling.
Have a good day0 -
Diet Does It -Gayelord Hauser (1944) - read this out of historical interest. Gayelord was a big health guru in his day. He's anti sugar but also anti-fat and pro-soya beans. A few of the recipes are LC
Simply Ayurveda: Discover Your Type to Transform Your Life -Bhartis Vas with Jane Warren (2000) I wasn't so much interested in finding out my type as finding out more about Ayurvedic medicine and this did give me some pointers and avenues to explore.
Patricia Galllimore's Organic Year: A Guide to Organic Living - Patricia Gallimore and Patsy Westcott (2000) Gorgeous photos and a monthly list of what's in season. Some stories behind organic successes such as Green & Black's, Rachel's yogurts, Duchy Originals. Overall it's disappointing though - just not enough info.
Hidden Dangers in What We Eat and Drink: A Lifelong Guide to Healthy Living - Jan de Vries (2003) Misleading title as it's all about feeding children !
Organic Cafe Cookbook -Carol Charlton (1999) - great book for people into organic food who can eat anything, very little for low carbers - even the Lusty Spring Omelette has spuds in it !
Nutrition for Life - lisa Hark PhD RD & Dr Darwin Deen (2005) - hefty hardback, gets the fat thing all wong ditto diabetes but otherwise seems pretty good.
The Organic Meat Cookbook - Frances Bissell (2006 reissue) very plain and worthy paperback, no photos, not many LC recipes surprisingly.0 -
Sorry, it's me again but I'm going out shortly and hopefully when I get back I'll have lots of posts by y'all to read
sheila54 - I do tease ya, you know that already (((sheila54)))
Omeprazole is for acid reflux yes ? I'd suggest: looking up which foods are worst for this and determining whether having changed your diet, you are eating less of them - maybe the dose needs to go down ? Or conversely suggest checking to make sure you're not eating more of them
The pancreas is between the stomach and the spine deep in the abdomen , lower down than your liver but more in the centre. I've not had pain there myself, if you have you should go to GP !!
Re: Italy - you do like a challenge don't you :rotfl:
Problem is if you say Mi dispiace, io non mangio carboidrati (I'm sorry, I don't eat carbohydrate) you risk the waiter (a) thinking you speak Italian and gabbling away at you or (b) misunderstanding your pronunciation and thinking something else ! Soo.. my suggestsion would be to identify some low carb dishes on the menus of places like Prezzo and Zizzi https://www.prezzorestaurants.co.uk https://www.zizzi.co.uk and copying out the Italian so you can identify something (hopefully) on a menu if there's no English.
Dead jealous have a lovely time xx0 -
Thanks Bedsdriver...but I'm more than happy with my Clipper White Organic tea
...and I believe, after much reading, that it has an even better health profile than green tea, as it's made from just the buds of the plant and isn't fermented at all!
Just came across this site, but I haven't thoroughly explored it yet:-
http://lowcarbpediatrician.com/
but deals with low carb stuff for kids as well as the adults caring for them, so may be useful for those of you wondering about the benefits of this woe for your little ones!

Sheila 54-One of my 'children'(not one with chronic disease) gets sourness and extreme discomfort and they have nailed it down to fatty foods-be it cheese/chips/curry etc.
You are going to be in heaven in Italy if you like ice cream-it is seriously second to none(ice cream parlours open extremely late(gone midnight)) You can also go out in the evening and readily get ice cold water melons(places specialise in just water melons) Fish is readily available as is steak(beware they cook steak extremely rare-even when you (sorry I) ask for it to be well done it is still bleeding) although obviously i don't eat it now :)Starters there is always numerous hams/water melons/honey dew melons etc. A lot of the sauces will be ok you could just ask for them to be served with no pasta, salad again is freely available, you will not be likely to see much veg though. In the supermarkets their fruit makes ours look well past it's use by date, you quite often find cooked roast pork(hot) that they will put into rolls(could throw rolls away)
Where abouts are you going to?0 -
sheila i got the toothpaste from a shop like approved foods, and i havent seen them have it since , you can get it from HERE ive never bought anything from there yet though
edwardia i dont know why im struggling, with only 8 weeks to my hols you would think that would spur me on , i just havent got the motivation right now. im not giving up though as i know its better for me . i will get it back
there has been some interesting links posted :T i am working my way through them0 -
Edwardia - I have had problems with my digestive system for 14 years and take omeprazole as I had a duodenal ulcer and also have a hiatus hernia, or did before I lost weight. I know that Baileys started the problems recently. Best remedy I have found is greek yogurt but it is a nuisance as I want to be able to have a drink occasionaly. I will try the cyder vinegar sometime but am scared that the acid will start stomach hurting as I know that wine does.
devildog - I have had my gallbladder removed and so fat shouldn't be a problem but I do wonder sometimes if there are adhesions from the surgery that could cause some of the discomfort. Thanks for info about Italy!!
sistercas - thanks for the toothpaste link.
Thanks to everyone for caring
I am staying at a holiday village by the side of Lake Garda for 8 nights and am going with my daughter, son in law, ex and 2 of my grandchildren. I will buy salad, fish, eggs and cheese to eat but only have an occasional ice cream but you have to have a treat on holiday:D
Bought 3 t-shirts and was pleased that I could fit into 16 - 18 as I was a size 28 this time last year!! :j
Have you had a good day and what have you been doing?0 -
Lake Garda isn't a million miles from where I used to work, during time off used to go more to Maggiore and Como though(albeit a long time ago)
Well done on the tea shirts, that is a fantastic achievement on dropping so many sizes.
I spoke to my eldest today and they have got hold of a bottle of stevia for me0
