Just put shopping away and walked dog. Phew !

OH was right, the only ham without nitrates etc in Lidl is Prosciutto di Parma (Parma ham). Same in ASDA. However the prosciutto is 1.99 in Lidl and £3 in ASDA.

The only ready sliced beef I could find for His Nibs' rolls without additives were 3.20 for two slices in ASDA which is pretty appalling when a whole free range chicken is 4.40 in Lidl and a small rib eye steak costs under a fiver in ASDA.

I bought 2 organic salmon fillets for £4, 2 wild Alaskan keto salmon fillets for £4 and 2 whole rainbow trout for £4 at the fresh fish counter in ASDA.

My local ASDA is now only selling the 0% fat Total Greek yogurt so I'll be buying it elsewhere. ASDA sells the largest pot for 2.10, Sainsbury's for 2.39 !

My shopping bill is going down, I only managed to spend 39.59 in Lidl and 39.99 in ASDA. It's not that there isn't loads of food, it's just that much of it has additives.

    I am 7lbs down in 8 days :)
Not weighed today :D it is tempting to weigh every day.

Happy that my 'wheat belly' has deflated considerably due to fluid loss, and heartburn... whats that?

Still getting lots of reduced stir-frys in the evening after work, some quite posh ones going cheap too ;)
I stir fry them in coconut oil and tikka paste.. yummy

mazzers - well done! :T Sounds like it is working so you must tell me your secret;) You sound more positive but what is happening at work?

Long journey home today. My brother does not eat breakfast so I have had half avocado, small piece of smoked salmon and some nuts. Rather nice actually!! Going out for chinese buffet before getting on the train so hope they have thai green curry as I love it. No rice but will have some stir fried veg with it.

Hope everyone is well, bossymoo has slept and we are enjoying the sunshine :)

    Morning all !

    Well done mazzers :T

Dinner last night was wild Alaskan Keto salmon with butter and black pepper, accompanied by tenderstem broccoli and sliced green beans.

Just read Why We Get Fat by Gary Taubes. It's more readable than Good Calories Bad Calories, but still information-heavy and takes concentration. It's not a diet book, although in the appendix there is The No Sugar No Starch Diet used by Duke University Medical Center.

The book clearly shows why carbs are bad, but doesn't talk up the low carb lifestyle. It's not a book to read for positive reinforcement, more something to read for education at the beginning of the low carb journey.

Wow, well done on the weightloss Mazzers!! :D

Why We Get Fat sounds interesting Edwardia, i think i'll order it when i've got a bit more money.

I got weighed today, lost 4.5lb this week! Well, i was in a light summer dress rather than my jeans so i think it's more like 3lb....that's 11lb since i started 3 weeks ago :D I realise it'll slow down now and that's fine, i'm just happy to be where i am.

I've been struggling with my weight for about 5 years and this way of eating has really struck a cord with me. My bloating is going down (2.5 inches off my stomach, around my belly button) and i'm not hungry. I used to be ravenous after 3 hours, and sometimes i'd eat a meal and not be satisfied at all. It's such a relief not to be ruled by my blood sugars any more!

How is everyone today? I had a job interview yesterday, just waiting to hear back. The waiting is killing me!! x

    well done confused76 :T that's nearly a stone now !!

Id say that Why We Get Fat is better than Gary Taubes' previous book, Good Calories Bad Calories, because it's more accessible. I bought it from Amazon with Dr John Briffa's Escape the Diet Trap for 13.48 the two, with free delivery.

Escape The Diet Trap isn't a diet book (says so on the front) and as I'm reading it I'm thinking it's not a bad alternative to Gary Taubes' book to explain the science behind low carb and I think most people would find it clearer although it doesn't go quite so deep. It's more positive about low carbing in the sense that it hangs the low carb flag up and waves it. Gary Taubes and Dr Briffa both low carb but Gary Taubes approach is here's the evidence make your mind up. John Briffa's book is bigger and has bigger print whereas the print in Gary Taubes' book is teeny.

I like Dr Briffa's previous book Waist Disposal much more even though it's aimed at men. It's really clear, has chapter summaries, you can dip in and out, it's really encouraging and has recipes too and it explains the science basics. It's a book that anyone could pick up and understand what low carb is and why it's a good idea.

    Where is everybody ? xx
