Scott I'd just ask the butcher how high the meat content is if not labelled. You'll have fun trying them all out
If you get bored with sausages and bacon, some fish fingers are low carb. I trawled (sorry) through ASDA, Sainsbury's, Tesco and Waitrose websites looking at the carb content of fish fingers. ASDA Chosen By You 36 Omega 3 fish fingers 900g are 3.8g carbs per finger and Tesco Value 10 fish fingers 250g are 3.9g carbs
daska, it's great that DS2 is getting along with food better, well done you ! xx0 -
Morning
Edwardia-didn't know if I would be sabbotaging myself with eating lots of eggs, isn't too much protein a no no(or have I dreamt that up?)
Also thought I would drop the tea because I have it with milk albeit almond or rice milk. However had a black tea this morning(OMG) I needed a jump startHaven't any milk in the house until i go shopping so if I want any more tea it is black all the way!

The amount of protein in your diet depends which one you're following. Some advocate more than others. I don't follow a particular one but I'm always trying to make sure I eat lots of fat and get my carbs just from veg if I can. I don't restrict protein it's just my second consideration.
Also some diets have restrictions during induction not because a particular food is fattening, but to enable you to pick up any problems ie allergies, when you start adding foods back in.
Milk is the carbiest dairy product and the least well tolerated by the human body. A researcher told me that we can only drink milk if we have the relevant gene enabling us to make the enzyme that digests it. Vast swathes of the world don't drink milk after weaning, let alone that of another animal.
I have Lactofree semi-skimmed milk now and IIRC correctly so does sheila54 as it has fewer carbs.
Why We Get Fat (Gary Taubes) and Escape The Diet Trap (Dr John Briffa) just turned up from Amazon and I have to go shopping with my mother
Had probs with my blog last night I don't think my security software likes dynamic templates on Blogger bahI've asked for review on both.

I've just cut milk out completely now. I switched to having herbal teas and an occasional mocha with cream - I find redbush/rooibos without milk is the easiest replacement for black (normal) tea with milk.Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants - Michael Pollan

Thanks for the info. I'm not following anything really just trying to low/no carb it. I know that we have to eat 'enough' calories but it is hard. Like already mentioned, allergic to dairy and don't eat meat so I am hoping that peanut butter will give me the fat and that eggs/tuna/salmon, salad(+ oil dressing) and low carb veg will do the rest. I have been using soya milk(now crossed off the list) almond and/or rice milk thinking it was relatively safe but having actually read the label rice milk was pretty high in carbs.
Enjoy your shopping0 -
I get Debbie and Andrews Harrogate sausages 97% pork they are nice. Or black farmer. Whatever's on offer.
Aldi do some huge bratwurst that are quite low too. £1.89 for 6 big ones so cheaper than the brands I quoted above, usually £2 for 6 if you can get them on offer, and they are smaller.Bossymoo

Sorry I missed that you are allergic to dairy, my bad. Milk alternatives often are carby because they add grape or apple juice, but you could check brands and investigate making your own.
Peanut butter alone isn't going to give you enough fat in your diet for ketosis (fat burning). I cook with ghee, lard, Extra Virgin olive oil, duck fat, goose fat, beef dripping and rapeseed oil. Plus everything I buy by way of cheese, yogurt, cottage cheese even meat is the full fat version.
Calories you can throw out the window along with portion control. It's not how much you eat, it's WHAT you eat.
If you don't eat meat (have a feeling you might be veggie ??) then try the low carb vegetarian books by Celia Brooks Brown and Rose Elliot which will help you.
You could add some milk alternatives back in as long as you allow for them in the total daily carbs you allow yourself. Also I'd suggest asking the question are they value for carbs ie do you get lots of vitamins or protein etc too for the carbs.
Thanks gotta run x0 -

Could I suggest that you pay a trip to the local library and/or charity shops and pick up at least one. You'll often find a copy of Atkins lurking. Whilst it may seem boring there are things you need to know/understand. e.g. that it important for your health that you eat more salt when you low-carb, for the first few weeks at least.Eat food. Some weeks, I eat up to 4 hard boiled eggs every day....and haven't found any problems with these amounts...not even in the "toilet" department, IYSWIM:oAlso thought I would drop the tea because I have it with milk albeit almond or rice milk. Like you, I used to only like and drink black tea with milk.....couldn't drink it black. As I wanted to cut out dairy from my woe, I then tried green tea, which I found a bit bitter, but after some research came up with and alternative of white tea! It's quite mild and has all....if not more....benefits of green tea! Now I drink it all day long!!
daska, I hope you don't mind me asking, but where did you buy your dehydrator? Did it cost a lot? Apart from online,I just can't seem to find any in any of the major stores:mad:

Don't mind at all. It's something I contemplated for a long time but, as you say, you don't find them in the shops. Having seen the limitations of the round dehydrators I really wanted an excalibur, and then when the sedona tribest came out I lusted after that for a few seconds before I found out how much it was. But, in the end, I bought a L'equip FilterPro. Having ruled out the sedona on price the decision had to be based on likely use. It has two trays that are slightly deeper than the ones I'd seen on the round models, which I'm hoping will prove a viable alternative to my stand-alone yoghourt maker - I'm not convinced yet. The filter appealed because our flat can get quite dusty as it has an unmade road immediately outside the back door (and the dehydrator had to go just inside it). And finally it's cheaper and quieter than the excalibur.Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants - Michael Pollan
