Thank you to you all for your responses, they really were useful and helpful.
I have decided to start my own thread and hope that there will be some other Low GI's like me wanting support on MSE.
I will return if I find it is not for me but thank you all for taking the time to respond.

Pink sauerkraut.. like that idea ! Jaded Mercy (that sounds like a good racehorse name, a fast black filly mebbe) is gin low carb ?
mazzer, my mother bought me the julienner from Lakeland and I julienned my thumb too <high fives mazzer>
Was just watching an eHow vid on YouTube about organic food. The idea was to throw away flour and corn starch (cornflour ??) and use either arrowroot or kuzu root flour as thickeners.
tod123 and Mercy methinks the kuzu root flour is more your area of knowledge.. I looked up arrowroot though and while it is 100% carbs it's only 2.4g net carbs per tsp using USDA nutrition info. 2 tsps of arrowroot will replace 1 tablespoon of plain flour in recipes according to the eHow video.
Anyone used arrowroot ?
Found arrowroot via mysupermarket.co.uk for 87p for Cook's Ingredients 80g at Waitrose.0 -

Well it seems I'm lucky NOT to own a julienner, I value my digits :rotfl:
Heard of arrowroot about {brainscramble} years ago. Usually associated with afters in old recipe books? No reason why it wouldn't be useful in savouries too. Not heard of kuzu root flour until now.
Just a quick break, I've sorted the kimchi, had 2x3L casseroles full of stuff when all mixed together, now have 1, 1.3L snap top lunch box 3/4 full of thoroughly sqashed stuff nestling under a sandwich bag comforter, for safety and comfort and with the lid snapped down nicely on it allIt's like my suddenly shrunken baby - so much potential :rotfl:
Have also chopped up 2 big onions and the remaining springers, carrots etc, ready for layering in with the cabbage. 5lb of cabbage does sound a lot but it's just 2 average sized white ones
Happy to find a really sharp heavy knife I've never really used. :j Should make it all easier. Didn't need a gin this time - which I think you'll find as a shot has negligible carbs - just a break.
Hope you are all happy and LCing your ars*s off as I type

Have just been reading about Stevia(fancy the chocolate cakes) and apparently you can buy it for something or other but not officially as a sweetner and that it is so much sweeter than the normal sweetners. Does anyone know if you buy it abroad whether they will let you bring it into the UK(from outside the EU)? Also, how does it keep, does it have a long shelf life? If I can bring it in then I am going to make the most of an up and coming trip and stock up
Today's the day that I am going to be 'brave' and try the cauliflower(gulp) I know that for most of you it isn't a big deal but for me it is like facing my nemesis
Edwardia-out of curiosity what brand of peanut butter are you using? I nearly bought the Whole Earth brand but after reading the label saw that there was nothing whole about it, in that they add Palm oil to it so now get Suma brand(ingredients organic roasted peanuts only) It can be a pain when the peanut oil pools to the top of the jar though.I think my meagre carb allowance is being maxed out today because I keep having a teaspoon full0 -
Just a thought, has anyone else held a large white cabbage in their hands and thought - 'It's just like a head! A head I tell you! It's just like a full grown human head!' ?
anyway, off to chop through a couple of them.

Hey sweetie
stevia is now available in most supermarkets(only recently)
Cauliflower when riced or boiled and mashed with added whatever etc, really doesn't taste of cauliflower at all. If used as rice sub with curry dishes - no taste noticeable. If mashed with cream and cheese and whatever (no taste of cauli) n grilled n frozen for nice spud alternative - no noticeable cauliness.
You will likely be as surprised as I was. :j:rotfl::D
Hope you like it too

OMG so it is-just had a quick look at Teso online and they have a few showing as half price:) (could be having chocolate cake a few weeks sooner then I anticipated
) Thanks for that.
Still uncertain re cauli-not too long to wait though! '0 -
Mercy .. I checked and my head looks nothing like a cabbage.. just how many low carb gins did you have ??
devildog I haven't gotten to grips with cauliflower as rice yet either I just think ewwww.
The peanut butter is sumo organic unsalted which I bought at Budgens. Yes the peanut oil does separate out, just needs a really vigourous stir by OH though. We think taste-wise it's head and shoulders better than any other brand we've had including imported American and Australian ones.
Forget low carb chocolate cake.. I want low carb Kettle Chips <sniffle>0 -
Ocado anyone ?
Ocado is in my area now so I registered. So.. if I pay 109.99 per annum I get *free* delivery so hardly free. If I pay 2.99 p.a. I get 10% off Evian. If I don't pay upfront for deliveries and my order is under £75 the cheapeest Friday delivery I could find was 5.99
So I wondering why I would move away from Waitrose ?0 -
Hi Everyone, I hope you'll let me join in your group. I'd like to lose a little bit of weight and not sure where to start.
I've been a vegetarian for most of my life - I love butter, cheese, eggs and cream but don't like tofu or quorn. I also love chocolate and sweet things too.
I read Doctor Biffa's book a couple of months ago and it makes a lot of sense. I've just ordered Celia Brooks Brown's book Low Carb Vegetarian, to start off with.
I'm going to look at some of the recipes at the start of the thread for some inspiration but just wanted to say hi to everyone
Debbie xLow carbing vegetarian. Aiming for 50-100g carbs per day0
