Edwardia - I know that you want to be in control and feel that you aren't, know the feeling myself, but this could just be a one off as I said in my earlier post. I was told that I had a fatty liver and it seems to be ok now. Why not just adjust anything that you have added and wait for the retest? I have adjusted my carb intake and cut down a bit on saturated fats in the hope that my next thyroid and cholesterol tests are better but what else can we do but wait and see if it pays off?
Love to everyone x0 -

murphydog999 do you have any links on the inflammation issues please ? I'm using beef dripping, ghee and lard more now that I have a splatterguard and I'd like to explore further. I remember reading a passing remark by Dr Briffa that low carb is anti-inflammatory and I'm wondering whether that's why the cholesterol and trigs change..[/QUOTE]
Hi just caught up with this one.
http://inflammationfactor.com/ the basics are here.
There are also a couple of eating plans whose principles are based on health first (based on inflammatory foods) and the inevitable weight-loss second, they are The Zone, by Barry Sears which is a 40% carb/30% protein/30% fat plan, eating 5x daily, and The Fat Resistance Diet, by Leo Galland MD. He believes that not being able to loose weight is a sign that some basic metabolic mechanisms are not working properly.
The hormone Leptin is affected by inflammation, and it becomes unreceptive in overweight people, and doesn't stimulate metabolism. Inflammation is important as it is now recognised to be a component of every degenerative disease from Alzheimer's to cancer, to obesity to heart disease.
His program is all about controlling inflammation, there is a book and I believe a cook-book.0 -
Hi there - been meaning to post this for Edwardia - this is the link to the freestyle BG monitor:
http://www.abbottdiabetescare.com/freestyle-lite-blood-glucose-monitoring-system.html
- you can get them in boots/asda/etc for £10-15. Best money I ever spent!
I'm still struggling to kick-start the weight loss - I tried eating more fat for the last week and I've put on 3kg! So it might not be that that's causing the problem. Any ideas welcome.

Not a happy bunny this evening:(
I have two sets of scales, one digital one mechanical. My youngest always weighs the same on both when I get on I get polar opposites in the readings. So go into town and head off to Boots for a weigh. I wish that I hadn't-I have (apparently) lost an inch and half in height(??) and my weight is 8lb more than what my preferred scales say(the ones that weigh me lighter obviously) No in seriousness I thought the digital would be more accurate but it appears the cheapy mechanical ones were telling the truth. Sigh. Oh well time to get deadly now

devildog - watch the Boots scales as they can vary from store to store by 2lb and an inch in height. I was worried as my height had decreased by 2 and a half inches but, when measured the old fashioned way at hospital, it was only 1 and a half. I also know which scale weighs lighter and weigh on that each week now.0

Hi all,
Hope you're all ok. I've had an Atkins day today with Harrogate sausages, creamy coleslaw, haddock, salad, cheese and some almond and flax meal loaf with a splash of cream. 2 cups of tea, one glass of diet cola and about a gallon of water, lol, well it feels like it...
Not all at once, I hasten to add...Bossymoo

Wow, this thread moves fast.
devildog - sorry to hear you weren't a fan of the cauliflower, my OH didn't take to it either, although strangely he likes it steamed and plain
Was doing well today until I heard pizza hut calling my name tonight .. one hawaiian pizza later... am wishing I had stuck with the salmon in the fridge0 -
First week and 5lb down.
No heartburn whatsoever, this has to be a lifetime choice for me, i hope i can keep it up.
I'm enjoying it atm, been having lots of chicken stir-frys as they have reductions on fab tubs of stir fry every evening in tesco.
Also salad weather so been having feta salads with garlicy meats in work and berries/Lidl yogurt or the odd lc cheese/BLT sandwich.
Not missing choc so far.
Doc was very supportive0 -
Well done mazzers, you must be really pleased with 5lb :T0
