devildog :staradmin for Bravery in the Face of Cauliflower.
bossymoo.. toasted almond loaf ::: thud::: makes me want to eat clotted cream ice cream but it doesn't arrive until Tuesday.
sheila54 where are you ?0 -
Edwardia - I am here but just reading. Thanks for asking
Welcome to the new people - we are a friendly bunch so be good getting to know you.
bossymoo- I tried stevia but didn't like the taste in drinks. Is it really ok in cakes as I need to use it up and it is better for you than splenda?
Made the mistake of weighing today and gained 2lb. Think I overdid the chocolate and cake so daska is probably right - keep off the cake. I really just want to eat at the moment, don't know why, but am managing to keep to 50 - 60 carbs as at least I am snacking on low carb goodies. Need to get some control I think.
Mercy - I picture you with your knife chopping up the cabbage and cradling it like a head. Maybe it is theraputic
sistercas - thanks for the link. I don't dare buy anything sweet at the moment as I think I might drink the whole bottle.
mazzers - you are very quiet, are you still tired and feeling a bit down?
Off to bed before I stuff something else in my mouth.0 -
I don't drink much milk now even though I switched to Lactofree filtered semi-skimmed. I do like to have cinnamon milk at night though .
Just heat a mugful of milk into which you have whisked in 1 tsp ground cinnamon or added a ground up cinnamon stick. If you need sweeteners wow do you have a sweet tooth.
Cinnamon has been shown to lower BG and cholesterol over time in a couple of studies. (I have at least one link on my blog).
Low carb bakers might be able to incorporate ground cinnamon into recipes to add sweetness ??
sheila54 please don't torture yourself over 2lbs. xx0 -
Hi folks, I have been 'doing' Atkins for 14 days now, and have lost 7 lbs so far.
I will only be able to continue for another week then Im away on holiday for 2 weeks.
Im going all inclusive so will not be watching my weight as much as I should be, but the drinkie poos are what will let me down. I will be starting again as soon as I come back as I have t least another stone to lose (probably 1.5 by the time I get back).
I started looking at this thread because I think for the first 2 weeks induction time you can get by without too much effort, but now I need to start making proper meals.
So tonight I made roast pork, broccoli and was struggling to find a sauce. I eventually made the best cheese sauce ever, I warmed some double cream in a bowl in the micro, added some grated cheese salt and pepper and cooked it in the micro in 20 second bursts till it was ready, I will never make any other cheese sauce again mmmm. I also found the choc marscaponi (sp) pudding on here and made it too, delish.
So thats 2 weeks in with no bread, bisc, crisps, chocolate, sweets, ice cream and Im ok, I am a bit afraid of introducing these again in case I will get greedy and overdo it.
Nice to be able to join with you and looking forward to your posts.Love your Mum, you'll never get another one when she's gone.0 -
Edwardia - not torturing myself as I know that I shouldn't have eaten extra but just seemed to need it. How are you today?
HopePray - welcome and well done on losing 7lb!! I think that if you totally go off it on holiday then you may have to start over as your body is just adjusting and it will revert back. If I am wrong then I am sure that those who are knowledgeable will correct me.0 -
Skymist is up on Dr Jack Kruse but IIRC he says that if you go out of ketosis for a day it takes two weeks to get back into it.
Dr Stephen Chandler says you have to eat under 20g carbs per day to be in full ketosis.
sheila54 - decided to ask doc to call me re: liver tests as a tad confused.
Hope everyone's doing well xx
HopePray hi and welcome
Where is everybody ?? xxx0 -
I like the sig edwardia.
Its my understanding that if you go out of ketosis it's back to square one too.
I also read that cinnamon can lower bg, i bought some 500mg tablets as it's not easy to use on a daily basis for me.0 -
I'm here Edwardia, it's just that the phone and doorbell keep ringing LOLEat food. Not too much. Mostly plants - Michael Pollan
48 down, 22 to go
Low carb, low oxalate Primal + dairy
From size 24 to 16 and now stuck...0 -
mazzers - so sorry that work is tough and you are down. Moving departments sounds like a good idea if it will help. Try to hang in there
Edwardia - what happened about the liver test? When I first started low carbing my GP decided to test my liver and the results were not good. Since then I have been tested 3 more times and, each time, they have been better and are now normal. Have you changed anything?
I have been reading up about candida as it seems to play a big part in auto immune problems, diabetes and thyroid etc. Sticking to a low carb diet is good but it is worth looking at as it does make sense
I am always out of ketosis since I upped my carbs to 50 but have to play safe I guess. Sometimes I have less than 50 but still the same.0 -
Thanks mazzers Sorry to hear you're having tough time at work (((mazzers)))
My day has been a bit like that too daska !
Got my doctor to call me. Liver enzymes are raised. Should be below 50, my HbA1C and other tests picked it up at 96, the test I did shows in the 80s so he wants me to do another one three weeks on from date of last one.
In itself a fatty liver not a huge prob, it's just that a percentage of those people with it will get NASH and a percentage of those will get cirrhosis and then it all gets serious n deadly. It's estimated that 70% of Americans have a fatty liver already.
I wasn't a heavy drinker and gave up drinking in January anyway. Besides alcohol, acetaminophen is a known liver irritant (found in Tylenol amongst others) but I can't find it in any drug that I have taken. In fact Metformin is supposed to have a protective effect against fatty liver ! My triglycerides and cholesterol are both excellent, kidney function was off a bit but is now normal and my blood pressure is normal too.
The changes I've made have been to decrease carbs to 50g or less a day (December) give up alcohol (January), give up Diet Pepsi (April), sweeteners (April), using cider vinegar in salad dressings ( April), taking 1 tsp of cinnamon in milk once a day if I remember (May).
I have found that there is a substance called coumarin in ground cinnamon which can be toxic to the liver if you eat 1/2 tsp of ground cinnamon on a regular basis. So I will knock that on the head and see what happens.
It used to be that fatty liver was treated with a low fat diet but I found a study from Johns Hopkins University that said that was a really bad idea and another from University of Southwestern Texas that says a low carb diet basically forces the liver to burn off its fat and make glycogen from lactates and amino acids and this seems to them to be a good idea.
Methinks half the prob is that blood tests are so darned good nowadays it's like a snapshot of your body and things change really fast. I had anaemia for 2 months, not the next time, I had high potassium one month then never again.
It's going down and as cinnamon doesn't seem to do anything for me but make me sleepy I guess I'll give up on that.
Sorry if that came out as a bit of a rant but this body of mine frustrates me so much and how can I have all these probs and have normal blood glucose ? Healthcare professionals always tell us if your blood sugar is control is good you won't get any problems.. that's looking a tad like BS to me now0
