Good idea Edwardia - I will keep notes and see
I have been drinking proper coffee instead of decaff so wonder if it could be this.
I have been reading and low thyroid can raise cholesterol levels and cause heart disease if not treated. Will have a chat on Monday when I know the results.
Enjoyed my almond pancakes. Ground almonds from Aldi are cheaper but not so finely ground. Think that I prefer them in the pancakes though.0 -
tod123 I looked at the website and ooh I love it, going to put an order in. OH lurves Chinese food and was amazed to see 211 varieties of noodles ! Noticed that Gok Wan starts a Chinese cooking series on Channel4 21 May. OH tho straight absolutely adores Gok.
You should visit the store, everyone just smiles and speaks in Chinese , its hilarious.0 -

Good Morning !
Well last night I lapsed and had a Chinese takeaway  I think it was my first in at least a year. I had king prawn foo yung which was a few king prawns hidden in what looked like bits of omelette with the odd bit of onion and bean sprout chucked in along with frozen peas. £5 for that  Had stir-fried vegetables thinking that would be OK and they were covered in gloop eww.The only bit I liked was the crispy seaweed which is cabbage I think. Put my BG up but not as much as I thought.
Off out shopping so have a great Saturday xx
almost forgot.. bought some books at Oxfam including Do It With Diet by Greta Garbo's diet guru, Gayelord Hauser !0 -
 Morning girls....hope you're all enjoying a spot of lovely sunshine after yesterdays total washout!!!skymist - you constantly come out with information that I hadn't considered but we never stop learning and I am finding it all very interesting!
Glad to hear that...especially if it's of some use/help!:) Like you, I'm constantly learning, 'cos I believe that when you stop being open to new ideas and change....you AGE, both mentally and physically, and I'd like to put that off for as long as possible!!LOLSkymist.. Dr Kruse was one of the guests on the annual low carb cruise in the Caribbean and some idiot tweeted on Twitter using his name and said he was going to let off a biohazard on the Carnival 'Magic'. So the FBI, Homeland Security etc removed him from the ship before it set sail from Galveston TX. Afterwards when it was all resolved and he was proved innocent, Carnival offered to fly him to Montego Bay to join the ship in Jamaica but he refused. I don't blame him, I'd have been furious too if that happened to me - must have been really scary !!
Yeh....I read about this on his blog on the day it happened. Some people  ......just like those who know before they watch a TV program that it's going to annoy/upset them, still watch it and then moan, complain and even vilify it...reall does make me soo :mad::mad: No-one is being forced into doing what he suggests; it's up to the individual to do what they want to....just like so many of us doing Low Carb find rejection of how/what we eat by doctors, friends or family!!sistercas - See if you can get your vitamins and minerals from food as much as possible as it is better for you. That, as well as counting carbs, is why I use fitdaysistercas - while sheila54 is right that it's best to get nutrients direct from source, if you aren't eating right then you won't get them so while we should all eat properly that's not always possible, in which case multivitamins are like insurance. Robert Atkins always believed in supplements, I remember.
I hate to disagree with you lovely ladies but....I think it's well nigh impossible nowdays to obtain all your micronutrients (vits and minerals) from food sources.....what with our depleted soils and plolluted air and rain.......if minerals aren't in the soil, plants cannot uptake them, so animals who eat those plants cannot obtain them either. As for vitamins, they deteriorate very fast once plants/fruits are picked, vegetables removed from the earth...especially all the water soluble ones. Otherwise they, (Big Agriculture) wouldn't need to replace so much in the processed !!!! that's pushed onto us humans...as well as what is fed to the animals we eat!!!!You are, of course, right about vitamin supplements but some tablets contain way over the recommended amount so I err on the side of caution. I do supplement with Vit D, calcium and magnesium but try to get the rest from natural sources. I eat well but have small amounts of smoked salmon and other luxuries to eek them out.
What is "recommended" "Ain't necessarily so" if you get my drift!! CW says x mg/IUs is what is needed, but everyone is different and has differing needs. You can overdose on the vits D and A, but you would need to vastly overdose on the RDAs to do that!!! I've been taking loads of them for going on 45 years, and while so many of my friends have died of various cancers...I'm still here :j....and they certainly have helped me stay in good health and avoid seasonal bugs most years, especially when I've been through all the bad diets that I've been on over the years!!! :rotfl:

Hello, just saying hi, down a bit more today, 5.5lb since hols nurse will be v pleased with me on Monday.
If I don't eat toast all weekend...
well done bossymoo! :T:T
Afternoon all, i hope everyone is well. I'm following this thread it's just taking me a while to see where everyone is at!
I'm on day 10 paleo/primal and after a week i'd lost 3.5lbI am very pleased with this and it has spurred me on to keep going. I've gone down a notch on my belt as my stomach is a lot less bloated.
I went out for dinner last night and managed to swerve dessert which is a big thing for me. I actually felt fine whilst everyone else ate one. Although i did get people trying to tempt me  Daft isn't it?!0 -
skymist - you may be right as most food that you buy has been adulterated in some way, unfortunately. I have been trying to find a vitamin and mineral supplement for ages without iodine or iron added and just with 100% recommended amounts but have had no luck. On Fitday I do get at least 100% of most recommended amounts and often much more so I think that this would be ok. Pottasium and Vit D are difficult though.
confused76 - well done with resisiting the dessert and the weight loss :T It does become easier but I have noticed that whenever you try to do something good for yourself it seems to cause others to try and derail the intention. Maybe they are envious and trying to show that you are not better than they are
Edwardia - hope that you enjoyed your shopping trip
I have been feeling a bit rough lately and so have decided to up the carbs back to 50 as long as I don't put on weight. Have been reading that the thyroid gland cannot function properly on less than this, if you have a problem, so may have to forgo weight loss for feeling better until it is sorted.0 -
well done confused76 :T I'd be annoyed if my family/friends did that to me. It's the I'll-feel-less-guilty-if-you-eat-it-too syndrome
Went to Morrisons -everyone in there looks so depressedNo Gressingham duck legs
Looked at one of the whole free range chickens and it had hock burn from standing in it's own poo, so free range in a barn would be more accurate ? Got some more of the 2.99 Bleikers smoked salmon mmm www.bleikerssmokehouse.co.uk which unlike most smoked salmon doesn't have added salt, sugar etc. Also bought a couple of the 1 LTR bottles Napolina Extra Virgin olive oil at 3.24 each, organic onions £1, marrow £1, fennel bulb £1 but noticing their veg all refrigerated except spuds & onions and really short-dated. Picked up Yeo Valley organic butter 2 x 250g for 2.50 and OH got sonme Bonne Maman conserve and marmalade at trial price of 1.50
B - Two softboiled free range eggs
L - Smoked salmon, cottage cheese, deli Manzanilla olives, spring onion.
D- Cauliflower cheese, leeks, courgettes
Exercise (walking): Wednesday 60mins Thursday 0mins Friday 40mins Saturday 70mins (I'm supposed to do minimum 30 mins per day)
skymist - think what you say is valid which is why we buy organic whenever we see it (very hit and miss here) and also some frozen veg. I just show GP the supplement I want to take he says yea or nay. I'm on Perfectil, OH takes multivitamins and ginseng from Lidl - getting him to take even those, was an ordeal.
sheila54, sorry to hear you're feeling rough (((sheila54))) and upping your carbs for health reasons is certainly sensible.
bossymoo - how's the no toast going ?
sistercas - I succumbed to a Chinese takeaway last night after reading about Gok Wan's new Chinese cookery series starting 21 May on Channel 4 oops !!!0 -

i'm back on it today ladiesdont know whether its the sunshine or what but i feel more like eating properly , i went shopping yesterday and have stocked up on lc stuff
not sure what to do about the multi vits , it wouldnt harm i suppose to take them for a bit
breakfast: 3 eggs scrambled with cream and butter
lunch: smoked salmon prawns coleslaw
snack : atkins bar ( i know , i know but i was really hungry after cutting the grass)
tea: hunters chicken ( chicken breast , tiny bit of bbq sauce and cheese ) with brocolia and cauli0 -
sistercas - on the Naughtiness scale my current snack of strawberries, double cream and grated 90% cocoa seems naughtier than an Atkins bar !
OH nipped into Sainsbury's, and they'd reduced all the UHT Lactofree to 84p from 1.29. Hope this doesn't mean they won't be re-stocking as Sainsbury's is the only supermarket which sells it here0
