sheila54 I started editing, my mother called and then it disappeared.. how long ago did the docs tell you to lose the 28lbs ? Cos they generally speaking work out the weight on a conventional diet weightloss of 2lbs per week. So if you haven't been given a time frame of 14 weeks in total, then the docs are asking you to do something they haven't given you enough time for.

Doctors are not gods - they are human beings and they can and do make mistakes. A cardiovascular consultant told me I had Reynaud's disease when it was actually athlete's foot. :rotfl: I've also been told by a junior doctor that I have rheumatoid arthritis when the dots under the skin on my fingers were the result of 2 hourly BG tests night and day for a week

So don't let them make you feel inadequate. You can't get fired for talking back to doctors now ;)

Do you think you have insulin resistance ? Exercise helps with that. Are you surreptitiously controlling your calorie intake ? If so, your body could be kicking into anti-starvation mode and the insulin won't then allow fat loss.

I will get on it looking for ways to convince you re: cholesterol. You can't tell which kind of cholesterol you have though unless you have trigs as well. If they say your total cholesterol is good ask what your HDL is and which LDL you have more of. If your surgery doesn't routinely get trigs done (mine no longer does unless total cholesterol is high) then doc/nurse/receptionist will just squirm hehe.

Vampy, I see ya lurking babe. Have you read Fifty Shades of Grey by E L James yet ? If not, go read, it's kinky, you'll love it ;)

SHEILA54 - You don't just need water, too little fat and salt can result in constipation when you're low carbing. So repeat after me: "I need water, fat and salt!" Go on, do it, say the words out loud, then write them on post it notes and stick them on the fridge and above the kettle and on the bathroom mirror. Dollop that mayonnaise on your lettuce, pour cream in your coffee smother your greens with butter, just get it in to you - you might also find that upping the fat means you snack less on the nuts and jelly etc.

(Should point out that upping your fat intake too quickly can be problematic, as you found with the coconut oil, and even cause constipation in some people, so don't go overboard too quickly.)

Take a look at Mary Enig's Eat Fat Lose Fat.

Edwardia - you might be interested in the oil blend she recommends, hadn't thought to point it out to you before.

    And if anyone's interested:
B - nowt - was still asleep LOL
L - avocado and caesar dressing, wasn't actually hungry, just had to have something to have my meds with and it needed eating
S - redbush, water, tea plate piled with broccoli with a sauce made of 2oz each philly and cheddar + one fishfinger cos I had cooked them for DS2
    mug of coffee/cocoa with cream
and I'll have to have a snack later so I can take the last of the meds - it'll probably be a hard boiled egg and mayonnaise with more water LOL
Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants - Michael Pollan

daska thanks for that, I just bought sesame oil yesterday :) Is coconut oil supposed to taste slightly burnt ? I bought the Parachute microfiltered stuff should I try another one ? Now got 2 types of EV olive oil, sesame, mustard and walnut oils, ghee, French and Czech butters, lard and dripping.

Hey what about some inspirational quotes to stick on Post-Its on our fridges ?

Have to say that burnt isn't a taste I would expect from coconut oil. It should be slightly sweet and taste of coconuts - and I find it feels 'cool' when I eat it, almost like a cool mint type feeling, but that may just be me ;)

You all make me laugh which is great :D

I now have 1 tbsp coconut oil a day with my sq chocolate and enjoy it. I have coffee twice with cream, eggs cooked in butter and 1 tbsp mayo a day. I have bought a pot of clotted cream as well. Do I look at the calories, well they are shown on fitday, but I don't think that I am in starvation as I have between 1500 and 1700 a day. I know that they don't count but I do make sure that I don't go below 1500 for that reason. Can't anyway with avocado and all that fat :D

I also find cooking with coconut oil makes the pan smoke but it doesn't seem to affect the taste or burn the food.

My GP probably sighs when I see her as she knows that I hate medication and tend to have my own ideas. Sound like someone else I know ;). I was given 2 stone to lose over a 5 month period and thought that it was reasonable but isn't going to happen as I have only lost 7lb in 3 months. Not really scared, just annoyed, 'cause they don't believe you have tried. Really seeing her on Friday to get forms for repeat thyroid tests but may mention cholesterol as well.

Thanks for all of the reinforcement :)

Mercy, mazzers and schoolhouse - seen you thanking but not posting. How are you doing?

    Hiya

I use H&B coconut oil and it is slightly sweet and coconutty. I did try coconoil many years ago but that tasted a little rancid. Not tried any others. I'd contact the manufacturer and explain what it's like.
