when I go to work (3 days/ 50 min drive) I usually take my home made museli and eat it when I arrive, as I'm not hungry earlier, and it gets me thro the day better. ? Is there something I could take to eat at work - don't have time to cook before I go. Possibly hard boiled egg? Yoghurt with seeds doesn't seem as if it would satisfy, any other ideas please. I love the thought that the high protein satisfies hunger pangs, just hope it works for me.

    Hello ,

I've had a good lc day.
    B = cheese and pastrami
L = chicken and salad with olive oil, some greek yougurt
d = mince and shredded courgette with grated parmesan - lovely
snacks = gg cracker with butter and a little peanut butter, strawberries and double cream.

    Did I eat too much??

Murphydog, that sounds delicious, but I daren't try it yet, need to get back into it properly first.

Sheila - sorry, can't offer any suggestions. Good luck!

Hope everyone else is doing ok.

sunflowersuffolk, here are some basics for you.

    To avoid -
anything made from grain; bread, pasta, rice, pizza,
anything with sugar in; the list is endless here, but cakes, biscuits, sweets, milk chocolate, cereals, cereal bars, ice-cream. This includes a lot of fruits and fruit juice,
    potatoes (esp. cooked in fat)
anything that is marketed as 'lite,' 'low-fat,' 'no-fat,'
fizzy drinks, or 'sugar-free,' 'no-sugar' drinks,
    deep fried food,
    processed/pre-made food,
cooking with sunflower, vegetable or olive oils
    Focus on -
meat (fatty or otherwise), fish, shellfish, eggs, full-fat dairy, green leafy veg, salads, nuts and seeds, dark fruit/berries, high cocoa content dark choc (if you miss chocolate),
cooking with butter, animal fats (duck, pork fat etc), coconut oil,
not thinking about calories, just enjoy natural, and fat rich foods.

You need to try and forget the doctrine that has been fed to us all over the last 20-30 years and avoid everything labelled as low-fat. You will find that if you include fat instead of carbohydrate your body will regulate itself, you will feel full and satisfied, those sugar cravings will disappear, and you won't want to snack or eat big portions - your body won't let you (you will feel sick).

It means you will be preparing more of your own food, but the bonus is that you know what's in it, you can control it, so you can control how it affects you, it gives you the responsibility, and if you want to make a difference to the way you feel and look every day, there is no better way.

There will be things I have missed but plenty of resources are available on here and on the net. Best of luck.

Hi there - I find breakfast to be one of the hardest meals of the day to sort, as I used to do similar to you, take some cereal into work.

I've taken in hard boiled eggs, omlettes I've cooked the night before then heated in the microwave at work, or even bacon and sausages.

I'd welcome any other suggestions though:)
  • thanks sweatybetty - not easy is it - maybe I'll have a pot of cottage cheese with some tomatoes/celery - not a "normal" breakfast, but if it gets results, great. My problem is I'm veggie including eggs/cheese but not fish. very restrictive! I love grilled halloumi, wull do that for dinner tomorrow with salad.

This is on the first page link under Mercy's recipes. I believe that some people make it for breakfast and then cut it into portions to eat at work

I sometimes have half an avocado with soft cheese / St Agur Delice for breakfast if I am in a hurry. Keeps you going through the morning and easy to eat.

Morning everyone, the rain is back :p

elentan - a friend of mine is vegetarian and follows the paleo diet. She eats quinoa, brown rice, lentils and beans but in smaller amounts and she has cut out bread, sugar etc. She is now 6lb off her goal weight and has been doing this for a year :), having lost 2 and a half stone. i currently try and consume 50g per day of quinoa etc ... i take 2 slice of bread and think this may be hard to cut out but was thinking maybe two slice one day one slice next day etc for a week then one slice per day till eventually i am not having bread .... should that be ok?

If you don't like cheese how about philadelphia or Ricotta which have a milder taste? i dont think i explained myself properly here ... i LOVE cheese love it love it love it ... from philly , boursin, brie right through to stilton, austrian smoked etc ... i love all chees ... apart from cottage chees which i dont think is cheese at all lol ... i love cheese ... cheese however does not love me

i find if i go over 100g in a week i really suffer ... that 100g is taken in 25g amounts if i take more than this i land up ill my stomach, intestines and head really suffer so it just isnt worth it for me

Need to be the full fat version, not the light. i love the full fat versions ... i dont waste my time on low fat anything it isnt healthy and is usually full of sugar so not a good idea imo

Also the Lidl yoghurt mentioned is Greek yoghurt, same as Yeo Valley. will buy some then and try it out it would be good for me to try loads of different yoghurts

It is nice on it's own but if you really don't like it 1 teaspoon of honey would add 6 carbs. Melt coconut oil with dark chocolate 70% + and mix in some nuts. Leave to solidify and you will be adding fat and it tastes good but carb count the chocolate and nuts. An avocado a day gives lots of good fat, nutrients and fibre.

There are several calcium enriched milks on the market which could be useful. tbh this could be a bit of a problem for me ... i need calcium rich foods as i dont do much dairy ... this is why i am currently taking soy milk and i am planning on making almond milk ... it is a concern however as i dont think i am getting enough calcium

There are also links to low carb veggie recipes earlier. will be checkin them out thanks

Have a good day everyone. Off to weigh and then have a root canal done. Hope I lose as I am not looking forward to the latter!!

thanks for the help will look into the recipes and the milk alternatives

sunflowersuffolk as it's such a big lifestyle change, I suggest you quit the most important one first and that's basically anything with sugar/forms of sugar.

Some peoples' brains respond to artificial sweeteners as if they were sugar although only xylitol is absorbed by the stomach and that's not usually found in soft drinks.

I gave up drinking diet Pepsi I guess nearly two weeks ago and have had caffeine withdrawal so I know it's tough to do but I'm starting to feel a lot better now.

halloumi should be fine, unless it's flavoured with something naughty LOL.

Take a look at the Atkins Induction page. Pick things off that and you won't go wrong.

The main thing to remember is that in addition to 'food':

YOU NEED WATER, FAT AND SALT.

Water because you need to keep hydrated, fat to keep you sated and salt to keep the sodium/potassium levels balanced. If you don't have enough of all three of the above you'll almost certainly end up headachey, hungry and constipated.

To keep it simple the only thing you need to look at on the labels is the carb count.

Eat when you're hungry and eat just enough to satisfy that hunger. I find a couple of ounces of cheese or a hard boiled egg with some mayo is often enough for breakfast or lunch.

Lidl's greek yoghourt is a better bet carbwise than the nuts and seeds one.

    Best of luck

Just a quick update. Whilst I eat paleo I have two provisos:

    1. is it natural? If yes then within reason I am happy to eat/drink it. if no then i skip it.

    2. Do I really want it? If yes, then I have it. Last week I had a beer and today and ice cream. However when you add up how many beers this year... I think just that one and the ice creams, two (one in March) then you can see they are rare treats.

It is hugely important to be healthy but also happy and I find that eating naturally allows me to be both. I know some paleo followers fully shun milk, cheese etc and good on them, however I partake, but not so much. Not having cereals means not so much milk and I only have cheese occasionally. Both though I consider 'natural'.

Bread, croissants, cereals, cakes and biscuits... well no they are not natural let's be honest, and they are the real killers of health and shape. Lose them and you are most of the way there.
