Hi, can I join you? I've been reading this thread and reading the links that have been posted (some good reading) and have been trying to low carb for the last 2 weeks (just over 4lbs lost so very pleased):).
I feel I need a bit of structure or would be better following a plan, are dukan, Atkins and paelo similar or can someone suggest another low carb book that might be better.0 -
cassindy - I personally find it easier to have a book for reference that explains the diet and sets out stages. This is what I now use when I want to check something out
http://www.amazon.co.uk/New-Atkins-For-You-Ultimate/dp/0091935571/ref=pd_sim_b_1
What you cannot do is mix Dukan, Atkins etc as they all have a slightly different approach.
There is enough info from Edwardia, daska, Mercy, murphydog999, skymist etc on here to tell you what you need to do, just go back 2 -3 weeks and start reading.0 -
Morning all !
Thanks for the avocado tip sheila54 as I remembered that I have one lurking.
cassindy do have a look in charity shops and discount bookstores before ordering from Amazon as you can pick up low carb books for peanuts. I've gotten all my low carb books that way - on Monday I got the Atkins shopping guide for 99p reduced from 5.99
Although aimed at men, I find Waist Disposal by Dr John Briffa useful.
For anyone trying to get into the habit of low carb cooking, I suggest borrowing a bunch of low carb cookbooks from the library and photocopying recipes you like the look of. Some books have a really liberal attitude to low carb though - I wouldn't regard anything above 10g carbs per serving as low carb
Dys, I'm moving towards paleo myself. The one problem I have that if I'm going out and end up being out at lunch time, there's not much about that I can eat !0 -
Morning All!
second day back on dukan after hols and now 2.5lb down. man i must hav been drowing in retained water heehee feels good.
had my oatbran 'bread' for breakfast with cheese spread, got my omelette / crustless quiche thing for lunch and nibbling, and have chicken defrosting for later, maybe done in diet cola, or maybe even a bit of philly lite and peppercorns sauce, yum.
Last day at work today until next Tue, and will continue this attack phase until the weekend, then get some veggie's in me. Might do a bit more cooking and get my trusty moussaka dish out.
Bought some frozen mince from Mr S a few days ago and the 1.5kg was the same price as 1kg??? I have a huge dish and got 8 portions out of it last time, so might go to Aldi with the tots on Fri for veg, which should be fun...
Happy lc'ing all.Bossymoo

Well done bossymoo - you sound very positive :T
As I am not losing weight I will put down what I am eating for the next week and maybe someone could caste an eye over it please?

Lettuce and cucumber + tsp mayonnaise.
lunch - half avocado, 2oz prawns + tsp mayo. 100g Lidl yoghurt with dsp sesame seeds
evening - lasagne made with sliced courgette, tuna, parmesan cheese, mozzarella and sour cream. Salad
Extras - 8oz lactofree milk, 2 tsp coffee, 1 tsp cocoa, 1 sq chocolate 70%, 1 tbsp coconut oil, 2 oz cream0 -
Hi Sheila, looks ok to me. That's not every day next week is it?
I think you should stop worrying about it for a while, just eat your usual healthy stuff (you only cut stuff out last week after all!), give your body a chance to sort itself out. For some reason I dropped a kilo a few weeks ago from not doing anything different, so concentrate on other things to take your mind off it.
Can't remember what sort of exercise you are doing, maybe just try and be a bit more active, say an extra 15-20 minutes a day, doesn't have to be sweating-type exercise, a walk round the block, the start of a spring clean, up and down the stairs 10 times, etc.0 -
Well done bossymoo !
sheila54 hope your tooth better now and I can't see that you're doing anything wrong !
Personally I'd up the cream and cheese but I realise you have a bit of fat phobia and a cheese probAre the mushrooms big ones ? I scoff 250g button mushrooms with my eggs on a regular basis cos they are both low carb and low GI so you could have more. Calories out the window remember
I'd probably add in more leafy salad stuff n herbs at lunch time but again that's just me. As you worry about fats depite the evidence (and I admit I did this myself) how about rapeseed oil which is the lowest saturated fat oil and rich in vitamin E Might still be on offer at Morrisons.
As I have a Lidl leaflet to hand..from tomorrow, vine-ripened cherry tomatoes 300g 79p, 1kg chicken leg quarters 1.89, 400g diced beef steak 2.39, Mozzarella 43p, smoked bacon lardons 2x125g 1.59, smoked trout fillets 125g 1.59, Duc de Coeur ratatouille 750g tin 1.29 and at the weekend.. 500g strawberries for 99p !
Agree with murphydog99 ie if you're getting stressed by dieting R-E-L-A-X and go take mind off it. xx
Feel free to jump in and look at my diet btw

Alternatively, if you're not losing weight even if you stick to induction, how about dropping down another level and trying Atkins fat fast. That's exactly when it's recommended for.Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants - Michael Pollan
48 down, 22 to go
Low carb, low oxalate Primal + dairy
From size 24 to 16 and now stuck...0 -
Thank you for your responses. I guess that I just am worried that I only have 9 weeks until I go to the hospital to see about my op and was told to lose at least another 2 stone before I went. Edwardia whilst I am not scared of Drs it taps into the feeling of inadequacy that I had before I started low carbing when they would not believe that I had tried to lose but not been successful
I wish that I could get over the worry about fat but will ask to have cholesterol done and, if that is ok, relax. Having been a nurse means that certain things have been indoctrinated into you and I need people to reinforce low carb for me. You are all really knowledgeable and it help me a lot
daska - I have looked at the fat fast and may try it as a last resort as I still get constipated and drink loads. I am waiting for my ketostix to arrive and will keep a closer eye on ketosis in future.
murphydog999 - going walking now. Know that exercise makes you feel better. I will try to stop being a pain and just get on with it!!
Thanks everyone :T0 -
evening all....can i join in this thread please? I'm starting paleo tomorrow, does anyone else here follow this? x0
