thanks Mazzers, very useful - can I ask, do you mix it with water or milk? and do you use just the one scoop per shake? In the reviews some people seemed to prefer it mixed with milk.

My favourite flavour is coffee, I suppose I could try vanilla and add strong coffee to it plus crushed ice.

I've not tried them (I just don't do artificial sweeteners/flavours if at all possible) but my suggestion would be that if it's not ok with water alone, you mix cream and water instead of milk, as it will be lower in carbs that way.

Mind if I join in? I've been on Atkins phase 1 since Sunday. All going fine, but missing biscuits. I wondered if anyone had recommendations for low carb protein bars, or had made their own?

I've seen a few recipes but wasn't sure how they would turn out, and all the Protein bars in Holland & Barrett today were really high in carbs. Phase 1 is 20g carbs a day, so I don't have a lot to play with.

Mercy - so sorry to read about Newtoncat, it's tough that our pets have such short lives. ((((((Mercy))))))

mazzers - thank you for the compliment

jm2926 - welcome aboard ! I can't help with the query much as I neither bake nor have a sweet tooth (my Achilles heels are Kettle chips and Bombay mix). I can tell you that last time I looked https://www.boots.com had 25% off selected Atkins products and I've seen some bars in ASDA. Several people on here do low carb baking. However Lindt Excellence 90% cocoa chocolate is only 14g carbs for the whole 100g bar and unlike low carb bars isn't stuffed with additives. You can melt the choc and add nuts eg pistachios as well.

angelfeathers - yes, scoff away - looked it up mushrooms 0g carbs per 100g according to Manual of Nutrition (Food Standards Agency) and glycemic index of 10 according to https://www.glycemicindex.com

sheila54 and daska thanks for the coconut oil tips

I was in Holland & Barrett Monday, picked up a reward card and noticed BOGO for a penny :)

Brunch (woke up late) did my own version of huevos rancheros using three free range eggs, a pile of green and red peppers diced plus diced organic onions and echantillon shallots and pesto instead of chilli :D

Bloomin cold here.. well not compared to Siberia.. but OH keeps putting the heating back on :(

Must dash, gotta go get ready for appt with GP (is there an emoticon for nervous tummy ?)

    laters ! xxx

Sheila - thanks for asking, I'm doing fine. I'm trying very hard to use/eat more fat, but it is so hard convincing myself that I can and should! Foodwise I've been very good and lc, and not at all hungry or craving anything.

Mercy - I'm so sorry to hear about your cat. Nothing I can say will make it any better, but am thinking of you.

Edwardia - I am trying to resist the urge to melt chocolate and add nuts!! I will resist, I will resist, I will ..... you get the idea!:D

The thing is, I KNOW I feel much better when I eat this way, so why do I sabotage myself?!?!

    Hi all! :j

Thanks for all the cat niceness. It is really appreciated. When you've lived with someone for 17 years then they transcend genus. They are your people.

My heart will twitch at this for ages yet, but I know he's off having the happy times. He'll come back as
    a) a fairy 10-1
    b) a cat 8 -1
    C) 1 - 1 The next GOK WAN and we'll all be so in awe of his fashion moves
EVENS bet. no real bookie could give odds on this. But I know it to be true.

Watch your grandkids look good in Newton's fashion. Of course he'll be called something else by then - but it'll work. And it will flatter ladies :)

Newt was proper gay, in a nice way, and he knew style. When the needle did its thing I said after he flopped so suddenly 'i can see your tongue'. He'd never let it be seen before - too common for him. After 2 seconds he sucked it back in with a hrrumph. 10 secs later - Newton had left the building. Nice looking corpse? No, as the viewer, your loved one's deadness is never nice looking corpse. But he left it as nice as he could. And He was Beautiful.

  • I'm off work today and spent most of morning trying to work out what I can eat. Got some saganaki cheese from Tescos, 4.9 per 100g (it was 120g) and fried it in butter with some onions and a huge salad, fogot to put mayo on, just vinegar/salt/pepper - very tasty. Hope that was ok. I like drinking water anyway, but have tried to have more. Went and got some eggs from local farmshop, ready for an omlette in morning. Is there a simple carb counter book anyone recommends?
  • Oh Mercy, just read your post, how sad but you did the best for him. he sounds a right charactor., you must have lots of happy memories . Our Rosie is buried in the garden, with some forget me nots on her grave.

Mercy I am sure that he is in a better place where he can run and play x

jm2926 - welcome. I am afraid that you can't have chocolate or nuts on Phase 1 Atkins but you can add in nuts, seeds etc. on OWL.

If you look on page 1 there are plenty of choice under the heading Mercy's recipes. There are lots of biscuit / cake recipes using flax that you could have.

How did the Dr go Edwardia?

daska - if you find out about avocados then please show me as I always have a half a day, both for fibre and because I like them!

sunflowersuffolk - I asked the same thing a while ago. Atkins have their own carb book and I use Fitday.com but they are American and they give the fibre count seperately, which they subtract to give net carbs. In the UK the values on packets have the fibre already taken off. I didn't realise this but someone was kind enough to point it out!!

Got my urine stix today and I have ketones so must be doing something right :)

Sunflower you are so right. He had his ways of being and he stuck to them. And I loved all the weirdness he expressed.

Sorry for your Rosie too. They give so much it's like they'd almost BURST to do more if only they knew what it was :)

That's what alerted me - he just wasn't up for it anymore.

Still snugged in for lovely luvvins all last night but to be honest he wanted out and over with this morn - after 7am. He just knew we'd done enough so a sad waiting time ensued. All sorted now he's off to pursue a career in fashion, I believe :)
