sunflowersuffolk - I asked the same thing a while ago. Atkins have their own carb book and I use Fitday.com but they are American and they give the fibre count seperately, which they subtract to give net carbs. In the UK the values on packets have the fibre already taken off. I didn't realise this but someone was kind enough to point it out!![/QUOTE]
http://www.glycemicindex.com/about.php Hi I just found this web site from Sydney Uni that may be of help. (there was a carb counter on Diabetes UK but I couldn't download it or open it.) The Sydney index is for low GI but it also lists the carbs. Sorry if this is useless, someone more expert than me perhaps could give their opinion.0 -

Today is a pants day all round. It would be my 5th wedding anniversary. Inlaws sent me flowers, roses and lilies, as in my wedding bouquet, and his funeral arrangement. I blubbed. I found our cards to each other from last year. I blubbed. My friends texted me. I blubbed.
An so on and so forth.
I don't know how I manage to keep to eating plan in the midst of all this carp. Still have a big box of hotel chocolat on top of the fridge from Christmas. Normally they wouldn't have lasted to new year, let alone may...
Had some lovely cod fillets for tea tonight, with sundries tomato butter. Very nice. And oatbran muffin for supper. Bed soon I think. Depression setting in...

Lets just be glad we aren't made of iron. We'd be rusty old things by the morning.
Big love to you and your nice people and their stuff getting you blubbing.
Really sending you my most heartfelt love today. You are getting through by your knowledge that this is good for you. You both know that.

Sheila - thanks for asking, I'm doing fine. I'm trying very hard to use/eat more fat, but it is so hard convincing myself that I can and should! Foodwise I've been very good and lc, and not at all hungry or craving anything.
Mercy - I'm so sorry to hear about your cat. Nothing I can say will make it any better, but am thinking of you.
Edwardia - I am trying to resist the urge to melt chocolate and add nuts!! I will resist, I will resist, I will ..... you get the idea!:D
The thing is, I KNOW I feel much better when I eat this way, so why do I sabotage myself?!?!
Well, Lustig's theory is that we're programmed to recognise sweet things as 'good' - his evidence being that nature doesn't provide anything sweet which is poisonous (I have no idea if that's true but I can't think of anything to prove it isn't.) Add to that the theory that we're genetically programmed to put down fat when we can in order to survive famine periods and you've got yourself a pretty good explanation for why so many people can't resist biscuits - especially when they're told sugar isn't fattening but fat is and then told to eat lots of fruit which is also sweet (I know it's fruit and veg but putting fruit as the first object implies it's more important).Eat food. bossymoo- so sorry, it must be hard but you mustn't give in. You'll need energy to keep up with your kids and it is easier when you aren't battling with carb addiction. You have done so well :T x
Take a book, fill a bath with bubbles and light some candles. It won't make it go away but you are important
Mercy - same for youx

Mercy I know what you mean about transcending genus. My labrador is my totally gorgeous black knight
I have spent so much time with him that I know his every look and sigh. I adore Gok Wan and so does (straight) OH. If you haven't seen it yet recommend his Made in China documentary.
bossymoo - I'd have given in and eaten the chocolate today. I'm in awe of you for holding it all together so well. ((((((bossymoo))))))
minihauk - am munching Lindt 90% cocoa chocolate at the moment soz.. my grandfather worked for Lindt, I was reared on the stuff and it's the smell.. dawg drools for chocolate and he gives me this look that says Good Boy chocolate drops just aren't the same
sunflowersuffolk - I'd forget Diabetes UK, it's the diabetes charity (born out of another charity founded by H G Wells) which advocates starchy carbs at every meal and has breakfast cereal manufacturers as sponsors. Not only that, its' fundraisers have been known to hand out Krispy Kreme donuts in the street. As far as I'm concerned Diabetes UK is not the solution it's a part of the problem
Sheila54 - my tummy got so wobbly that I felt really unwell and cancelled. Chicken of me I know because I'm blessed with the smartest funniest warmest doc on the planet BUT I just wasn't looking forward to talking about the sight-threatening retinopathy esp as optician says it isn't and I'm confused. I don't want some trigger happy junior doctor zapping me with a laser un-necessarily
daska - I have big respect for the feisty Dr Robert H Lustig MD. He even answered me when I emailed him and the guy is super busy. He said of an apple that it's sugar with a vitamin C tablet
Dinner - OH is roasting salmon fillets (2 for £4 ASDA) in EV olive oil with sliced red peppers and limes plus Cajun seasoningI'm the reason dinner is late cos he went to Sainsbury's for me to get the Lindt.. yep in a town of 50,000 people only one supermarket of five stocks it !

sunflowersuffolk wrote: »thanks Mazzers, very useful - can I ask, do you mix it with water or milk? and do you use just the one scoop per shake? In the reviews some people seemed to prefer it mixed with milk.
My favourite flavour is coffee, I suppose I could try vanilla and add strong coffee to it plus crushed ice.
I use water to keep the carbs down, the scoop i have is quite large but unsure if it came with a previous mix tbh.
Was about to say they do latte but they've changed the flavours since i last bought.
I had cookies and cream, latte and choc nut but strawberry cream is mine and my sons fave.. yum0 -
Avocados
I think the following is probably the most 'useful' thing I found on them. Simply because the comments following the blog entry makes it clear that it isn't a 'one size fits all' and it may be influenced by type of diet as well as individual chemistry. Seth's Blog: Avocado Raises Blood Sugar
I'm really bucking at the having to eat 3 times a day now, cos I want to test how it affects me LOL. I think I may ask the GP to prescribe some strips so that I can work out which foods are good/bad for me.Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants - Michael Pollan

My son has also moved out and although it's peaceful here now, it's a but too quiet until i get used to it.0 -
