Personally I can't see why people rave about the nasty leathery horrid tasting things. Plus they're in the nightshade family so I deliberately avoid them and they can thin the blood so aren't suitable for anyone on aspirin, warfarin etc.

I was stuck on aspirin first week of diagnosis although my cholesterol lipids and blood pressure were all good (now excellent). I don't want to come off it though because one study showed a rebound effect for stroke and I'm not willing to risk it.

bossymoo- Thanks for the ideas, I would certainly try the savoury muffins. How long do you cook them for and any guidance with the amounts for ingredients?

Not sure I could do fasting, have only made it through half a day of Dukan and really fancy some cashew nuts. Will just concentrate on the sari blouse that I must fit into:p

Mazzers- Good luck with the fasting.

Finding all the facts and links very informative. Lots of interesting reading there. Thanks very much:beer:.

    Schoolhouse,
For the muffins, 6 tablespoons of oatbran, 2 eggs, 6 tablespoons milk powder (even better protein powder if you can find an unflavoured one), a scoop (maybe 80g) of quark, bit of salt, herbs etc. I think you can use a bit of wheat bran on Dukan too, so up to 6 tablespoons of that. Give it a really good whip up. Should make a dozen smallish muffins, and I think this equates to four days worth, so you could have 3 a day? It's 1.5tbsp a day on attack?

You could grate a courgette, wring it out to lose some of the moisture in a clean tea towel, and stir that in.

Depending on the size of the muffins, and your oven, 15 min for small ones up to 40 min if you do a single loaf for slicing, at about 160deg so it doesn't get two brown and crusty.

I do similar now but with ground almonds, as I've switched to Atkins for a change. Might go back to Dukan after my holidays though, for a while...

Sorry but that made me spray tea over my laptop, i pictured boiled eggs rolling around in the pan.

My sausage meat was rather moist and the crushed onions stuck rather well, i oven baked mine and they were great.

When i did IF last i had different hours and regular break times.. it's gonna be nigh on impossible to find a regular 5 hour window.

i will try your recipe next time i might have more luck lol
i dont IF everyday just a couple of times a week if i feel up to it , dont stress yourself and just do it when you can , maybe eat later in the evening so if your break is delayed you will be ok ( i take a boiled egg and some nuts in case hunger gets hold of me)

I know some people find the more science based books boring or challenging but I find it really does help to understand the 'why' as well as the 'how' of low carbing. I would thoroughly recommend Stephen Phinney and Jeff Volek's "The Art and Science of Low Carbohydrate Living: An Expert Guide to Making the Life-Saving Benefits of Carbohydrate Restriction Sustainable and Enjoyable" and Taubes "Why We Get Fat: And What to Do About It" You can get a lot from the youtube lectures and newspaper articles but I think the books do it more systematically and effectively.

thanks ive ordered the gary taubes book

No it's not, but on Dukan a certain amount of dairy is allowed. I think it focuses more on being high protein than low carb, but I can certainly say it works! And it is restricted in carbs, so we can still talk about it here :-)

Ah thanks for unconfusing me :) Dukan is the Duchess of Cambridge's mother's favoured diet plan.
