mummyofboys welcome , if you look on the 1st page of this thread there are several links that explain low carb and also loads of tried and tested recipes
good luck it really works but it is hard to overcome the indoctrination we have all received about 'healthy eating ' but it can be done , i pour cream onto anything i can
i think some chocolate giving is done with no agenda attached , simply people wanting to be nice but may not have the understanding of carbs as we do , I have been given 12 creme eggs today from a friend and i wouldnt want to hurt her feelings by turning them down , i accepted them gracefully and gave them to my DDs who in turn are delighted .
15g for 3 lindor sounds fine to me 5g eacha lovely treat .
I have to have treats otherwise i feel i am missing out , but i applaud those who are able to live without
i am up to 85% dark chocolate at the moment , i have tried 100% yuk it was awful
bossymoo your weight loss is fantastic :T
got a couple of chicken breasts for tea , not sure what to do with them , DH and DDs are having chicken chowmein, i make do a mushroom and cream sauce and have some veggies with it0 -
decided to pan fry the chicken with onions , garlic and mushrooms and have added some chicken stock and will add cream at the end , also done a big pile of brocoli - really hungry now
having tea early as DD1 has to go gymnastics coaching and DD2 is having a saxaphone lesson later0 -
Shelia - i get 5 hours if i am lucky as well and not unusual for me to just get around 3 hours. I cant really blame hubby as when he works away i dont sleep then either!
mummyofboys - have a look on www.atkins.com/program and see if it appeals to you. i dont really have much cream unless its squirty and i have a mouthful as a snack!
Gloomendoom - that looks gert lush!
i have just had tea and am stuffed! back on it properly today and oddly enough i have lost another 2lbs although that maybe dehydraytion or that as the kids were ill yesterday and could only eat toast i didnt eat all day as i didnt want to eat in front of them so only had tea when they went to bed.
today i have had
b - square burger thing, toms, egg
l - mince and veg
t - huge amount of chicken (with skin) and huge salad and bit of cheese
drinks - 4 pints of water and 1 green tea
i was going to do just dance 3 with the kids but dont think i will be moving off sofa now!but as i was up at 6.30 for dog walk and spent the afternoon mowing the lawn and will probably go for another walk after kids in bed i will let myself off! :rotfl:

Welcome to the board mummyofboys. We all follow the same ideas but are at different stages, some still trying to lose, some to maintain their weight and eat more healthily, some for health reasons. Personally I have lost 5 stone since last June so it is possible. The thing is that, if you change to this way of eating, it has to be a choice for life as, if you greatly increase the carbs, the weight will pile back on
Many of us slip up sometimes but have to cut carbs again to lose the weight that we have gained.
If you follow Atkins you start at 20 carbs for 2 weeks, mostly from salad and vegetables, and then have the choice to increase. Later on you find the right level for you to lose weight, for me it was 50 carbs, but now I have gone lower as I reached a plateau. You also need to drink 3 litres of water, if you can.
Everyone here is friendly and it is good to exchange ideas and encourage each other

nuttybabe - sorry you are not sleeping,
thanks but i think i am used to it now. a few weeks ago i posted about being tired and warn out all the time and i was getting 6-8 hours sleep. when it dropped back down again i felt a bit more normal. although did have a extra bad night last night and not stopped all day so am quite hanging now!!!!0 -
Mercy I may get some melatonin if you are sure that it doesn't have side effects as I am sleeping really badly, averaging 5 hours a night and up twice during that time. At least it gets light earlier now.
I can only speak from my experience and I found melatonin to be very good. The idea is to use it to reset your own sleep cycle. Ideally 6 weeks every night should do it. I used it Sunday-Thursday for 8 weeks.
to be successful you need to give yourself time to sleep. If you need to get up at 7 then you should be in bed and lights off for 10.30 latest. Take the Melatonin 9.30-10pm.
The only side effects I experienced were quite vivid dreams for the first few nights. I did wake up sometimes but dropping off again was very easy.
I used 3mg and found these fine. No hang over feeling in the morning. If you get the caps you can split them down if you want or get a 1 mg version and work up if needed.
They are so cheap but after the 8 weeks I found i slept 7 hrs and woke up refreshed 10 mins before the alarmSo now they are just there in case I need to get up earlier than usual or if I don't feel tired when i should.
I found they made all the difference for me. Please read the links below to give you a better understanding of what melatonin does and how it works.

Here's a good Dr Briffa blogpost where he discusses melatonin and other ideas for improving sleep. Worth reading the comments at the bottom too.

Below is where I've got mine from. I trust NOW foods but there are other options on this site.
