But at the same time a lot of the meat is from grain fed animals and the nutrient levels are apparently much lower than from grass fed.

There are also issues with the widescale homogenisation that milk is subjected to - whipping cream and breakfast milk are generally unhomogenised but they're the only milk/cream products in the supermarket that are. I wish I had easy access to the unpasteurised jersey milk I used to drink as a child - the stuff you get now tastes like water in comparison.

I checked my calorie consumption today, I haven't until now, and I was amazed to find I'm eating in the region of 800/day. Imagine trying to do that on a ryvita and fresh air diet :(

    800 a day  yesterday i had 2145
my fitday analysis for day 2 :

B: cheese, bacon, chicken omelette, butter
L: mixed salad, salmon and coleslaw
    D: beef stew broccoli
    S: 2 dates 20g brazil nuts

    2,145 cals 154g fat, 134.3 g protein 66.5 carbs

    59% fat 27% protein 14% carbs

    Hello All
I am trying low carbing to try and shift some excess baggage I have picked up over the past few years since turning 40!!
I am trying to stick to the same type of meal and hoped you could have a look at my food list and see what you think.. I am a bit wierd but genuinely enjoy my food ..
So I work in an office and open up at 05.30 so I dont eat till about 7am
    Breakfast
Mixed veggies, chicken thigh or leg, 1 x tea strainer of quinoa with a sauce on top (imagine a small takeaway tub 3/4 full ish)
    Snack (10.30)
    Shape yoghurt
    Lunch (12.00)
    Another of the above
    Snack (whenever)
    10 Almonds
    Tea (530)
Perhaps chicken/salad, or mincebeef lettuce wraps but defo different from last two meals.
Maybe about 9.00 another shape yoghurt....

I know it looks odd but I can see the scales moving daily so I hope its balance enough to be healthy?
I dont count stuff as I cant afford to get obbessed with it (ultimatly has led to past failure) but how does it look
Mercy, Mazzers... can you advise please
    Much love and thanks
    Shazzle xxxx

PS Apologies for the terrible spelling!! lol x

    Shape yoghurts 0% = 12.1g each
    Others are higher

Also what sauce did you have with the quinoa?

Depends how many carbs you want to have.

sistercas recommends fitday.com and it does work out all of the nutrients, carbs, protein, fat etc. Thanks for that!

How is everyone today?. Lovely weather!!

breakfast - 2 egg omelette with cheese and salad
lunch - half avacado, lettuce, cucumber and St Agur Delice
snack - no sugar jelly with cream, Linwoods flax, sunflower, pumpkin, sesame seeds with gojo berries - 2 tbsp (needed to provide fibre)
dinner - chicken, cauliflower, broccoli, 1 square chocolate and tsp peanut butter

Possibly a bit short on your greens? The dark green veg (spinach, kale, spring greens etc) plus romaine lettuce and parsley cover a lot of vits and mins between them.

N.B. fitday doesn't make allowances for fibre so you have to work out your carbs separately. e.g. an avocado will register as 14g instead of 4g.

800Kc isn't unreasonable for me (I don't think). I'm sedentary due to disability so it's not as if I need energy to do things with - though having said that we did bake 6 doz 'chick' biscuits for the end of term party this afternoon and I was wanting supper after that.

    So yesterday went
B: fried courgette with leftover tuna mayonnaise.
    L: not hungry
S: burger and cheese (burger was home made a mix of lamb and cauliflower with garlic, parsley etc, very nice)

    Today (so far):
    B: slice of cheese
L: avocado with caesar salad dressing
S: steamed broccoli florets with butter, cheese and flaked almonds
(I'm thinking I might dig out some frozen coconut milk and blitz it with some cocoa for a sort of coconut/choc icecream type treat later on)

I supplement with coconut oil which obviously helps keep the hunger pangs at bay and I tend to drink water and I seldom have things that others would consider 'sweet' because I avoid artificial sweeteners.

But because this is going to have to be a lifetime diet I'm quite keen on understanding the science behind low carb. As far as I can tell the high protein/low fat emphasis in some of the popular diets is not great for long term health (though ok for weightloss while the body is essentially eating it's own fat) whereas the longer term studies that have been done with obese/type 2/insulin resistant patients appear to demonstrate that the higher fat diets are about equal for weightloss but far better in terms of improving glucose control, cholesterol levels etc.

Thanks for the info Edwardia. If you come across and deals for organic beef or free range / organic chicken please let me know ....this diet is really expensive to follow as it is.

If I see anything organic on offer I will always put them on the thread. Quite a few ppl on MSE buy meat packs from Donald Russell www.donaldrussell.com and rave about it. If you search the forums you will find offer codes I think. Don't know if it's organic but it's By Appt to The Queen...

Again haven't tried this myself but the farm was on The Hungry Sailors on ITV https://www.wellhungmeat.com and their stuff is organic.

As for expense, well I think it evens out because we're not buying bread, cakes, biscuits, sweets, grains, rice, desserts, tonnes of ready meals, pasta, rice, takeaway food etc

Using fitday I have had 1194 calories, 86.6g fat (67%), 26.9g carbs (9%) & 68.6g (24%) protein but I dont know if the fibre is subtracted. Does this seem in balance as I am still trying to do 20 carbs for another week and then will start to increase next week by 5 carbs a week? Really missing nuts, chocolate, berries etc :D

daska - do you cook with your coconut oil or take it straight and have you found that it helps?

Like others I miss the old timers ( figuratively speaking :p )

Differing opinions about meat but I try to get the best within my budget so thanks for the advice :T

    Hiya.

i am still reading. not really got back into it properly though. Had a cake decorating course on wednesday so had to have at least 1!! :D But the stress is over (hopefully), dd has her grommits and i will start again properly Monday although i cant go mad due to my asthma, i am relaxing it a bit more in the hope that when i do go strict again i will lose.

Fitday sounds good. will have a look at that and see if it helps. :D
