blimey , you have all blinded me with science
reading everything you have all written , it seems if you are insulin resistant you are stuffed no matter what eating regime you prefer
i have settled down to lcarbing again , I have started using 'fitday.com' where i can input my foods and it gives me a nutritional breakdown ( im on hols this week so i have the time) I am aiming to keep my carbs to below 75g a day and see what happens this week
hope you are all doing ok xx
There are lots of information out there that point to the fact that eating low carbs can stop/ prevent insulin resistance . Cutting out carbs helps keep type 2 diabetics bg readings at a healthy number ( type 2 diabetics produce insulin but their bodies do not use it correctly i.e they are resistant to insulin ..) I know this works because my OH is type 2 .
I'm not a diabetic , but cutting out carbs makes me feel well , eating carbs makes me feel ill , put on weight and be very bloatedVuja De - the feeling you'll be here later0 -
daska, the reason that the DSN was saying you should have a snack at night, is that if you're taking insulin/drugs which can drop your blood sugar a lot, then you could have low sugar ie a hypo which is dangerous if you're asleep.
Purple foot.. often classic example athlete's foot.. I had a big toe which was the colour of an aubergine and painful. I'd just been diagnosed so my GP pulled out all the stops and I saw about five people. Finally got to see a chiropodist who told me I had worse case of athlete's foot she'd ever seen. She told me to get Lamisil and it sorted.
Since there are all sorts of reasons for the purple colour, I do think you should see your GP to be on safe side.0 -

Some type 2 dont produce enough insulin to remove the glucose from the blood which is different to the insulin resistant ones who have loads of insulin (me) and that makes it difficult to lose weight and makes you feel tired all the time as the glucose isn't getting into the cells to give you energy so it is removed from the blood and stored as FAT
Leak sorted, pipe came loose from plughole, informed i need to retile bathroom though as some tiles are loose and causing damp
Also had Doc appt and he increased my bp meds... again!0 -

Thats true ( re not enough insulin )
But indications are if you cut carbs , your body will stop the endless cycle of insulin - fat- body saying i need more energy give me carbs - oh no i now need insulin - maybe not i will store it
Fat can be used as energy when carbs arent available , thats the theory and it seems to work , I have lost 8 lbs since last wednesday , which is oddly worrying in a way lolVuja De - the feeling you'll be here later0 -
mazzers - glad you got pipe sorted but sorry about meds. Hope it all gets sorted soon
pelirocco - well done on the weight loss. Really good if you have been doing this for a while :T
sistercas - let us know how it goes on 75 carbs?
Getting leucoytes +++ in my urine now that I have dropped to 20 carbs so hope it isn't affecting my kidneys. No blood or protein but I am a bit concerned as they weren't there before. Ketones ++ as well most of the time, which is to be expected.
So sorry for those who have heart, diabetes etc problems as mine are just stomach and back which don't seem so bad.
Have a good day everyone!0 -

i feel alot better when i lc, i have more stamina and im not hungry all the time .
sheila i will let you know , its an experiment for me as i normally eat anything i consider reasonably low carb , i think i have been having alot more carbs than i realised. so i am inputting everything i eat into fitday.com and it gives you a nutritional breakdown of your daily food. yesterday i ate: 1589 cals, 97.3g fat , 113.7g of protein and 70.5g carbs which equates to 17% carbs 54% fat and 29% protein
day 2 today and so far ive 21g carbs
done some vitamin D absorbing this afternoon but ive had to come in im too hot  cant believe its march0 -
I post low carb bargains on a thread in the Food & Groceries board and if you're looking for the lowest carb ice cream, fish fingers, chocolate, peanut butter and houmous (working on at the moment) do have a look.
Lindt Excellence 90% cocoa dark chocolate is 14g per 100g bar, Tesco Value fish fingers are 3.9g each when grilled and only 60p for 10 fish fingers and it looks like essential Waitrose houmous will be the least carby at 6.59/100g.
Obviously the idea is to eat healthy food and less processed stuff but sometimes we all want a bit of a treat and one fish finger with the fried egg or a couple of squares of chocolate isn't going to completely derail the low carb plan..0 -
Thanks for the info Edwardia. If you come across and deals for organic beef or free range / organic chicken please let me know as my GP has told me that they are better as they don't have hormones or antibiotics given to the animals and I am trying to eat healthily. This diet is really expensive to follow as it is.0

You don't have to worry about hormones in EU-produced meat - they've been banned for years.
Antibiotics can only be used when deemed necessary by a vet for treatment of an illness - not to promote growth.0 -
But at the same time a lot of the meat is from grain fed animals and the nutrient levels are apparently much lower than from grass fed.
There are also issues with the widescale homogenisation that milk is subjected to - whipping cream and breakfast milk are generally unhomogenised but they're the only milk/cream products in the supermarket that are. I wish I had easy access to the unpasteurised jersey milk I used to drink as a child - the stuff you get now tastes like water in comparison.
I checked my calorie consumption today, I haven't until now, and I was amazed to find I'm eating in the region of 800/day. Imagine trying to do that on a ryvita and fresh air dietEat food. Not too much. Mostly plants - Michael Pollan
