Pink, you will get out of it, the immediate problems will be sorted when you get paid, then you will be back on track with being paid properly each month.

Don't try to do everything at once. Just get through these 2 weeks as best as you can, then look at it again. Remember how worried you were about getting a job? Well you have done brilliantly to get another one so soon, so that's one worry out of the way, lots of people have problems with money when adjusting to a new job, ring the bank and tell them the situation, they may be able to give you a temporary overdraft until payday.

I'm not in masses of debt, but it still hasn't been easy. I could pay it all off with my savings. But I have my savings for a reason - to do up this house, which desperately needs a lot of work doing to it. I'm so annoyed with myself for saving and completely sabotaging my own efforts by getting the credit cards out again. I'll sort it out though. I've set myself an ambitious debt busting and savings target for the end of this year - we'll see if I manage it!

Edited to say: I will call M&S tomorrow. I asked an assistant while I had the bra's in my hand, if the voucher was refundable. She said yes. I was tired, couldn't be bothered to try them on. If I'd have known it wasn't refundable, I'd have tried them on or got something I can always use like mugs or towels. They did the same thing with my Mum. She bought 2 bathroom mirrors because she couldn't decide between them, took them home, chose one, returned the other and they wouldn't give her the voucher back - until she rang up. Hmmm.

Agreed. Call up the bank, see what they can do. Most people can't afford to spend any period without being paid and it seriously messes up their finances, so don't beat yourself up about it. Like Sarah says you've got a new job and once the pay starts coming in, you'll make big inroads into your debt.

It was 72, so could be worse. I'm going to have to stop being so damn lazy and start switching stuff off more. Its my own fault. I deserve it. Hoping my electricity meter comes from The People so I can actually see how much I use. I can see me becoming very sad and just sitting watching it, lol!

I might see if I can get some more insulation in the loft before winter and review how much I'm paying compared to what other suppliers.

I've ended up living off what space was left on my credit cards, now it's all been chopped up over different cards I've lost track. God I need to get tough, I can't afford to keep buying things. I'm going to end up not being able to buy a new car in 2 years and so won't have any transport to get to work. My car is very old and really really needs replaced.

I have completely screwed up. I was supposed to have paid off £6000 since November and I've paid nothing off. I've just been spending on what god knows I've hardly got anything to show for it.

Cards are getting cut up next week. Why the hell do banks give out so flaming many and why can't I be sensible enough to control my money?

I need to find £35K over the next 8 years. Argh. Feels like a mountain!

Just having a meltdown, having a "what the hell am I doing staying with my dad" moment. Panic. That's all I can describe it as.

Oh, need happy thoughts. Cup of tea and a bit of cake I think.

Definitely cut the cards up, I just have one left for emergencies now.

I would just choose one card to concentrate on, just pay the minimum on all the others and hammer down the one. When it's done, ask if they have any deals for balance transfers and then choose your next worst card for that. Then repeat the whole process.

35k over 8 years is about £365 per month, does that sound like something you could manage? It does feel rubbish at first when your savings are low, but that amount each month will build them up quite quickly.
