Grinding noise after wheels were changed (RESOLVED!!!)
Options
Hi Guys,
I had my BSA alloys put on yesterday and now i can hear a grinding noise coming from the front wheels...it happens at any speeds and I am finding it more difficult to accelerate!
I have never heard this sound before, it only happened after the wheels were replaced.
Any ideas as to what this could be please????
Thanks

Do they fit? Are they rubbing on the body work or brake caliper etc. Get them off and check it out. Should really have stopped straightaway and had a look.0

The tyres are deffo not rubbing there is plenty of space between the arches and tyre...not sure about the calipers....the alloys are the correct size for the car...any ideas as to why the calipers would be rubbing?ta"He's a maniac, maniac that's for sure,

some calipers will rub if the wheels have dished looking spokes etc
get them off , it should be obvious whats rubbing and its probably a saftey concern too0 -
Could be something simple. Get them off and have a look for any rubbing marks, then you can decide what the problem is. If you see nothing then take them back to whoever fitted them. Anything we say on here will be pure guess work.
Edit:- Probably better to jack up a corner and try and spin wheels by hand (can also do it in gear but if it falls of the jack the car will be away so be careful)0 -
Will do...problem is I am at work at the moment. Will try and go to a garage on my way home."He's a maniac, maniac that's for sure,

Right garage is having a look straight after work.... hoping to god its not the offset thats an issue...previous owner has told me its the correct offset and they came off his old ford focus Mk1 with no issues."He's a maniac, maniac that's for sure,

Wheel nuts all tight? Thats usually what's wrong if i've ever had grinding noises from any wheel after a wheels been off/changed. Learned that one the hard way (wheel falling off).
Should all be checked again after the wheels been on a while (50 miles sound about right?)0 -
After all that I have visted my local garage and they were too busy!
Here are some pics anyways..prob not gonna help but worth a try!"He's a maniac, maniac that's for sure,

looking at your pictures it doesnt look as if they have been rubbing off the calipers.
did you watch the garage fit them to the car? im asking because there may be a chance that your original wheels were tight to come off, they may have had to hit them hard to come off, this in turn might have knackered a wheel bearing or damaged a brake disc. or maybe its just a sticking caliper....work permit granted!0 -
maybe clonked the tin splash sheild behind the discs and bent it enough to make contact0
