Megs my place is depressing me..although today I did do some washing (now on the clotheshorse in my living room), I did get around to trialling some windowcleaner for tesco today..it was rubbish:mad: Must crack on with tidying papers etc as I have a photographer coming round on Monday..I hate the fact that he has invited himself especially as he knows that I don't meet clients or use my flat to meet suppliers:mad:

I have an advert to draw up and submit to Hospitality & Events North - deadline is 16, I am out later at a meeting - need to be there at 6.30pm and I dont want to go out as its dark and wet and I have never used the bus at night:rolleyes: I am in Cirencester tomorrow...and I really don't have any time:rolleyes:

JP, re the pricing saga, as a retailer, my mark up is 2.2 from the wholsale price, although sometimes i do not put it as much as that. I would rather sell more at a lower price and have a higher turnover and more happy customers than ones complaining that i charge too much and then shop elsewhere. Don't know if that helps you any.

Welcome FRP! I do my own books although I have an accountant who keeps me right and also does my tax returns as I do not know enough about what to claim tax relief on etc.

Some Christmas stuff arrived in today, have sold a few bits off it so far and my now 2 part timers are going to decorate the place on Saturday for me (they are girly girls so it will be interesting!).
  • Hi all

Not been on here much but enjoying catching up on what everyone is up to. Well last week I had one of the busiest weeks of my working life - was working from 7am til 3am for 3 or 4 days and trying to finish everything off for lots of clients. Good news is part of the reason I was so busy is because I treated myself to 3 lovely days off this week. I went to the New Forest with the other half who has a week of work and we stayed in the gorgeous Rhinefield House Hotel and eat, drank, swam, walked and lazed. I didn't take my laptop for the first time ever - was very liberating. Still sneakily checked my e-mail once a day on my iPhone but have learned a valuable lesson - the world didn't stop just because I didn't check my e-mail every 5 mins! Also pre planning and making sure all my clients knew I was going away meant that I didn't get calls and feel like I have properly relaxed for the first time in ages!!

Hope everyone else is doing well - sounds like everyone is keeping very busy as usual!!

    Allison

    PS - Horace - sent you a PM x

Ally - I have read your PM and replied. I went away for one night last week..I didnt take my laptop and my phone didnt work that well either..it was great as I pleased myself so I just lazed about. I hope you had a great time in the New Forest Ally - you deserve a break after all your hard work and silly hours.

I have news..its now official..the deal was made today - I am now the manager of the rock band:eek: It helps that I like them and their music..one of their songs I just cannot get out of my head at all.

Oh and I have yet more news..I was offered a free listing in the CES directory - this directory goes to loads of businesses as it is full of event organisers, other suppliers (lighting rigs, catering etc), venues etc all for corporate events. Admittedly it isnt a big advert..just name, address contact details...but its free.
  • congrats Horace! that's fab news! they'll go far with you behind them

Thanks all..now I just need to get rid of a pest..this girl contacted me the other night after seeing my ad in Perfect Wedding magazine..she is after a job basically so I told her that I hadnt got any work and wasnt looking to take anyone at the moment because I only make enough money for me. I mentioned that I may need some help in the future with a big event that I am organising but not yet..so she started inviting herself round..she wanted to come tonight so I put her off..so she invited herself around on Monday so I have had to email her and stress that I do not meet people in my home and that I was busy and would contact her with a date and time when I was free..so all she does is ring so I have had to say ther her pushyness is offputting..which it is..the more she pushes the more unbending I become - she seems to think that she now works for me which she doesnt and she never will at this rate:rolleyes:

Had a rotten day..arrived late at a meeting due to an accident outside my place totally blocking the road, then coming back..I took the scenic route again and got silly men with big lunchboxes and tiddly brains driving at speed along a road that was awash with water and overtaking me when there were two solid white lines down the middle of the road..well one stupid twonk smashed up his car as I drove past his accident (I was waved through by police - I wish I had stopped now to say that the idiot had been driving dangerously prior to the accident). The scenic route took me to the M40 which I joined at junction 15..after clearing the roadworks I soon came to a grinding halt and sat there for 2hrs - both north and south bound sides were closed due to a car fire.

Jobs for later..must do my advert for Hospitality & Events North..the deadline is 16 November.

Have a great weekend all and I hope you manage to stay dry.

Put the flags out TCM..I have packaged up some magazines for you and sealed them inside a large jiffy bag (very MSE I am re-using one that was sent me earlier:D)..it is now in my pigsback pink shopping bag ready to go to the post office this afternoon.

Was amazed today that the books I ordered from Amazon on Saturday arrived today..(I saved some money too which was even better): The Music Business (the essential guide to the law and the deals), All you need to know about the music business (thanks for the tip about this one Ally) and The Music Management Bible..I guess that there are few things that overlap with these books but I like an all round perspective and I shall enjoy reading them:D

Started thinking about my course too and have started writing an assignment in my head..hopefully I will get it down on 'paper' later and email it to be marked. I was supposed to be seeing the photographer today but postponed it..dad was due to go to hospital today and I was going to take him but he isnt well neither is my mum and now I have been sneezing all day and I don't want to pass on germs that will hasten his demise:o

Flags hoisted Horace!!!! Thank you! I will not do the grocery shopping till I have a good nosy through them! Well done on officially becoming a rock chick!

Was very busy on Saturday, we had the transfer test at the school next door so all the kiddies wanted to come to the horsey shop as a treat when they came out! It was great and a real buzz to lift so much in a few hours. Then on Friday afternoon, I had the joys of the OH's ex wife sitting outside the shop (which was bunged at the time) with her hand on the horn shouting obscenities at me (I am now a witch so I have renamed the car as a broomstick and told Odd George the cat I will get him a black hair dye!) because DstepS forgot to bring something back with him. Not my problem I'm afraid!

May go and do some work - I got another lovely gift today of a necklace and earings from a mummy to say thank you for being so happy for her son when he jumped a clear round - he was as proud as punch so I made a bit of a fuss!

Hope this is the start of a cracking week for us all, x

Do more than hoist the flags..have a little jig..the magazines were sent 1st class this afternoon:j

I forgot to ask how your familiar was (Odd George)..as for the ex indoors she sounds as though she has more front than Sainsburys - I bet she looked like a right nit sitting outside your shop swearing and cussing like some demented fool..no wonder your OH has problems if he was married to that:rolleyes:

Well done the earrings and necklace too..you must be really pleased that this lad jumped a clear round.

Its the breakfast meeting tomorrow..then I need to speak to the council as the posh canapes event that I was invited to on 23 November has been cancelled, I am awaiting a call back to organise a personal viewing around the banquetting hall and the museum & artgallery:cool:

Had the Your West Midlands wedding mag on the phone offering me an advert in their Valentine's issue for £100 plus VAT but the magazine will be sold in the shops and go to the National Wedding Show at the NEC and the Midlands Wedding Show (wherever that is). Also they told me to contact the 111 leads that they sent me from the National Wedding Show at the NEC..I havent contacted any as yet as I am not sure that I want to:rolleyes: Also they told me that my website had had a 100 visitors from their site but those 100 havent contacted me at all so I have no idea what I am doing wrong if anything at all. I haven't decided about the advert because I haven't received any direct responses from it..so is it throwing good money after bad?
