Just popping in to say hi, glad to hear everyone is ok and very productive. Going to be thinking happy profitable thoughts for this month and all the rest, we've had a terrible september.
We're on the move again, we're supposed to work and run here ourselves and have an area manager that makes sure everything is ok but they just seem to think that we're doing a terrible job and making it more and more difficult for us to do our job, the day before we went away they sent a general email saying if people didn't start working harder they would start moving people around. This is our home too and we are working as hard as we can, we don't need the stress, especially when we aren't seeing the profits. So there's another place that has just become available and it's pretty perfect as it's a short term contract as the building has been sold, which means we get all the xmas trade, so that should be really good, just back to scrubbing another place and it's the 4th move this year!!!
We think the lease here has been sold anyway, or close to as we've been having people in looking round so we would have had to move on whether we'd had all the emails and texts.
I'm giving myself tomorrow off to get all the cooking done for the rest of the month and to start getting the packing started. Nothing is fully moving at the mo and I feel like I should be doing something, I tried comparing quotes on liability insurance before but they said they couldn't do it and would have to get someone to phone me
  • Hi Everyone...

Seems like we've all had a busy few days - me included.

Had my interviews and then been trying to sort out my business accounts..

I have a business account with HSBC right now and because I have since gone Ltd they need to complete another application, open up a new account and then I have to change everything with my suppliers and direct payments - what joy!!

Now.. I have a couple of issues with HSBC - not being very helpful when I was struggling - in fact they were not helpful at all. So I moved my personal accounts - but left my business accounts where they were because I was advised that they wouldn't be touched so at the time it just made sense.

Now.. I have the opportunity to move - but where should I go? I'm thinking of Lloyds TSB as I bank with the Halifax and they are now offering Lloyds TSB products.. I will need to be honest and upfront about my situation so I want to deal with someone that I can talk to and explain my situation rather than a 'computer says no' scenario (which is what the guy from HSBC said this morning - it's the computers decision and It's unlikely I'll be able to over-ride anything)

Been reading the other posts but thought I'd come back here as any suggestions are very much appreciated

Thanks all - have a good day.
    xx

    Hi Snow et al

I am currently with Lloyds TSB but when my free banking runs out, I shall be off to the co-operative as I, via the FSB (I am a member). can get free business banking for life and the co-op will give me £25 a year loyalty bonus and if they mess up my account then I would get £25 for each upcock:D

Brrr...its nippy today - I might go and put on a fleece gilet. Tomorrow I really must go and stand in a queue to see the Anglo Saxon Hoard, apparently the whole amount will fill 20 rooms plus I want to go and shove a handful of money in the box so that we can keep it here in Mercia:cool:

I've been looking at business accounts too, I tried comparing them but considering I didn't understand what they were offering exactly it was a little pointless. Barclays seem to want to charge, the closest co-op is 30 minutes away. The A&L seem to be ok, but I haven't held an account with them before, I can't remember reading about anyone elses experiences with business accounts but I did skim read some of the 80odd pages here ;)
Been to see the new accomadation today too, it used to be a b&b but the top 2 floors haven't been used in a very long time, there are about 8 rooms to the first floor so that should be enough

    Thanks Horace & Lexi..

    Well today has been mad..

I have a cheque paid made out to my Business Name (from HMRC) and all I wanted to do was open an account and pay it in! But could I just walk into a branch and do that oh no!

I attempted to open an account with Lloyds TSB - was advised that they couldn't see me till Wednesday of next week and then it will take a couple of weeks to open the account.

Had a great chat with the guy from the Co-op and he stated that he could run the application over the phone but would then need to post it too me to sign, I'd then need to return it and then it would take some time to be processed.

Rung Natwest - exactly the same, can run the application over the phone but then would need to sign it etc..and even if I went into branch they'd take my details then pass it on to the opening team to process..

Why can't I just go into a branch, speak to someone nice - open the account there and then and pay my cheque in so that it clears for next week???

Everything seems to be over the phone then send out the paperwork. HSBC could have done the application etc.. today and banked my cheque today - but although I have an account with them I'm not sure I'd pass for a new account but I may be cutting my noise off to spite my face!

But since they helped me get into this little mess - they are not the people I want to have my business accounts with..

But I need the cheque cleared for next Thursday.

    Any ideas anyone?

Lexxie - you don't physically have to go into the co-op to pay in cheques - you pay them in at the post office. To get business banking with the co-op you need to be a member of the FSB.

Snow - banks have to be sure that you are a viable business and will give you a business manager, however, when my Lloyds account was set up I didnt even set foot in Lloyds (the account was opened for me by the chamber of commerce). With the co-op you do complete the form over the phone and then they have to send it to you to sign..a few weeks isnt going to cause too much of a problem surely? You can put the cheque in the bank up to 6 months from the date of issue anyway.

sorry your having a tough time with the banks itsnowtime. i remember when we opened ours we had to provide them with a business plan and loads of other info it was a nitemare!
Sorry can't be of help but hope you get it sorted soon.

I was listening to the radio earlier and a presenter in Edinburgh was going on about how he couldn't find decent cloth to make up a jacket, so I was brave and called them and told him about us and I have a meeting with him next week woo!

Hope everyone has a fab weekend!

    Well done Purple:T:j

Have a great weekend all and even a great week - I fly off on Monday to Alicante where the weather is considerably warmer than here - hovering around 25 to 26 degrees (I can live with that).

    Thanks Horace & PurpleRoses

I do understand that they need to do all their checks and I have all the information that they need. But when the cheque is for quite a significant sum of money that will come in handy to pay a bill later this week then i just wanted to get it in and cleared..

My overall history isn't helping me either - so I'm researching very carefully about who I should apply to and I think RBS / Natwest may have a good enough account for me. I don't need any lending facilities just somewhere I can deposit my money and access it if I need it.

I think I've resigned myself to the fact its not going to happen as quickly as it should - not a great service from any of the banks in my eyes! However.. I will get it all sorted.

Purple - well done!! Good Luck with the meeting

Horace - enjoy spain it'll be fab - relaxation and sunshine!!

    xx
