  • Hi all, I stumbled across this thread by accident and I've been finding it enthralling reading! I run my own party planning website and am about to break into the world or chocolate wrapping!! I also have two children to look after and I am in massive debt - so I think I qualify!!

I'm glad that there are so many people out there like me. I was supposed to be working but have just spent the last hour or so reading this thread!

Anyway it's wonderful to hear how others get on (or not get on) with their self employment - hopefully we can all continue to encourage each other.

Well done Purpleroses, all the best with the meeting :T

Horace I didn't realise that Co-op had post office banking too, I knew A&L did. Didnt realise I had to do a business plan either, I'm guessing I can't just tell them I have loads of experience in this field, it's just that we've always been 'self-employed' but for a bigger company, if that makes sense. Think I'll go and start making appointments tomorrow, then I'll know what it is they need to know, I've 3 weeks so that should be enough time
We have been to the pub tonight to see what it is like at night and one of our current bar staff crashed our evening, then we found out he was actually barred so he started gobbing off at the current owner saying he won't be barred for long, helpful, so helpful

Have a great holiday Horace, I was in Alicante in June and it is lovely.

    Welcome Lisaandsaffi!

Hi to all and welcome to Lisaandsaffi...mmm chocolate - I love the chocolate bars that my little wrapper sell.

Had a text message from friend in Alicante asking me to print off his boarding card..so he sent me all his passwords and carp for easyjet but as I don't like messing with things, I printed out his confirmation with this wierd sqiggly bit on it - it does say that it can be used for check in so he will just have to check in and explain that he accidently left his boarding card at home:rolleyes: I refuse to fly easyjet and ryanair - I cannot abide Stelios nor that Irish nincompoop. If I have printed off the wrong thing then tough..he should remember to do these things himself..I cannot be doing with idiots:rolleyes:

Must iron some cropped trousers - I am not taking much, knickers, a couple of t-shirts, a fleece gilet, a zipped jumper, and these trousers. I need to pack my rucksack.

I joined 4Networking the other day - or rather I joined their forum and already have folks as far away as Twickenham wanting to talk to me, I am not a member yet either. These people are normal, with a sense of humour and really are my kind of people - their networking meetings are 50% social and 50% business, plus their breakfast is much better and apparently at the Walsall one they have chips:rotfl: Plus I can go when I want and not when I am instructed to go.

Still havent been to see that gold but the museum is staying open til 11pm tonight so may just try and see it (its the thought of standing for hours and my back siezing up that is putting me off going).

Hope you all have a great weekend and great week.

Have a great time in Alicante Horace!!! If you are still there on Wednesday go to the markets in San Miguel de Salinas - it was the best one I have ever been to and there is a fab beech at a place called La Zenia. The market is only on a Wed and it is where the locals get all their stuff.

Welcome Lisaandsaffi - we're a merry bunch! Itssnowtime, banks are meant to be on the side of the small business but I have yet to see it. I changed our business account recently and am still getting such flack from the original bank who had COLOSSAL charges on the business account, I am sorry I bothered. My Visa machine is still going into the old account as they will not give the new bank the details!

Been fairly busy the past few days - the OH was nice for a few days then went off on one this morning because I had not polished my boots (why would I when I was shoveling whoopie doo doo in them!) So I am buying a bottle of plonk and going to put my feet up and watch Strictly. GRRRRR.

Have a good holiday H, can't wait to hear all about it!
  • Hi all, I love the way some of you have your debt on your signatures and how much you've got rid of. At present I actually owe around £30,000 on top of my mortgage so I'm going to be a while getting out of it. I just don't know where to start!

I've had quite a productive day today mind. I managed to earn nearly £40 selling junk at my daughters school at a car boot sale (but then went £50 over budget at the supermarket!). But I've sent out enquiries to chocolate suppliers, put up some ones submitted party idea on my site and answered all my emails!

I'm off to have a chinese and watch X-Factor now with a few of my friends.

P.S. moneymabel, I took a quick look at your site, as you mentioned weddings, its a great site. I got married in May and I couldn't find any jewellery or accessories and ended up buying a cheapy necklace in the end. But your stuff is beautiful!

Bet he didn't offer to polish them for you either! I get in trouble for not keeping on top of the flat, and if I have to ask him to help or do something cos I'm too busy or he actually notices the mess he expects thank yous  He has all these rules for when he does things, like if he cooks I wash up, not a problem your OHliness but you can wash up if I cook, yeah thought so :rotfl:
I'm cross today anyway because the staff didn't turn up so I was stuck on the bar until 4pm then had to get my cooking done so I've not had chance to go to the bank. I also think that OH is going to keep the guy on too. I think I'm going to stay up here tonight and eat biscuits

I did manage to get all my batch cooking done so feeling quite pleased with myself, except I'm so tired that I can't wokr out how much I've spent or how long the food will last me for, I think I'm going to stick with telling myself I've saved a fortune and have loads of food

Have a great holiday Horace. And well done moneymabel on the mag mention.
My debts similar to yours lisaandsaffi, I keep seeing it as a free money mountain as it was a loan from my parents and I'm clueless on how to start reducing it, especially now as the money I had to one side is going into the business

  • Wooo a book (fiction not work (and not in German so I cant pretend its work!) that I ordered what seems ages ago, but prolly only 2wks ago has finally arrived. Its not out yet in the UK (its the second in a series and I couldnt wait!) so it had to come from America, by the looks of the label its been via Germany as well!!

But I have lots of work to do today, that is kind of overdue (but its for a friend/colleague who understands ive not been well)

But i want to read it! Bad procrastination...

Also Ive just been diagnosed with IBS, and curling up with a book is good when its playing up!!

    Must not read the book....

Good luck getting the work done Star! Reward yourself with a chapter after every milestone you hit with the work, if you think you have enough self conrtol to put the book down after 1 chapter!

I have been to enquire about business accounts today and it will only cost £20 per month for a free account from barclays. I asked how that is free and they told me because they wouldn't be charging me 49p per every £100 I put in  I do have an appointment to set up the account when the company papers arrive as OH is happy enough staying with Barclays but might just keep having a little look at some other accounts, the charges aren't very transparent on their websites though. And the boss we have at the mo who is the reason we are leaving has taken to communicating with us via either text or the chef
