ally-I am pretty sure that is all they do all day. I used to have a guitar teacher who was in a local band (nothing big time) but still there would be girls turn up to the gig who looked like they'd had their makeup applied by polyfiller, they wouldn't listen to the set coz they'd be in the toilet slapping on another layer and then get miffed coz me and my mates (who had generally been headbanging for 2 hours and be all sweaty and gross) would be chatting to the band and they wouldn't get a look in. Did make me wonder at the time how long they would spend in makeup for a major act lol!!0

hello everyone, I have been flat out this week. Worked full days last friday and monday plus I had to do all my usual writing work in the evenings. Then last night and tonight we are visiting schools witht he kids so we can choose a high school for my son.
That is a complete nightmare. The school we want him to go to is oversubscribed and out of our catchment. The school we can get him into has a dismal academic record. There is an ok school he could attend but the buildings are practically falling down and they have some "behavioural issues". We are seeing a school tonight which is brand new but once again out of catchment.
I feeel really helpless. All we want is the best for our kids and so many barriers are put in our way. My son is described by the school as gifted when it comes to writing and reading. He is way above his age group, he writes poetry ad short stories I would be proud of, but will his talent be wasted in these huge schools with loads of teacher distractions in the form of undisciplined students?
How have you guys coped with the whole secondary school dilemma - it is doing my head in!
Anyway it sounds like you are all keeping busy. I have jsut 2 weeks and 2 days to go at my job - yipee!0 -
Nappentass...I have always been the same, can never sit still, always have to be doing something...brain racing along at a zillion miles an hour. Maybe its a result of being a premature baby
I have no idea plus what is galling to some folks is that I am always cheerful (sure I get my despondent days - as you well know) but when I am in a 'work' environment talking to people then they would never know if I was having problems elsewhere in my life.
I can remember once when I worked at the University in the cleaning section and I had to be at my desk at 7.30am:eek: (sometimes I could even have been up since 4.30am - driving up from London:eek:), I was always cheerful. On Valentines Day I received a card in the internal mail - they had carefully used a brand new internal envelope so I couldn't even work out which department it had come from, tucked inside the internal envelope was another envelope containing a card addressed to me saying "thank you for being you - the sunshine in your voice brightens my day" - to this day I still don't know who sent it:o It wasnt my boss because I knew his handwriting inside out...I asked people that I had contact with on a daily basis but no joy there either:rolleyes: It still makes me feel kinda special:D0 -
Morning everyone
Been up since 6 30 (which as some of you may recall is v. early for me) to finish off the first deadline on my big project.
Have had a bad week depression wise but have managed to get in touch with my therapist again (she'd had her Blackberry nicked and lost all her client's numbers) and am feeling better.... Have not had a panic attack since Monday
And just have picked up a nice new client who has a reputation for paying promptly and agreed to my fees without haggling
Unfortunately with regard to my big project I've had to let one of the files (just over half) be done by someone else as Ive lost so much time recently. So I cant afford to go to this conference. But as my therapist keeps telling me, there will be at least one next year that I can go to!
Must crack on
I hope everyone else has a wonderful productive day, the weather is looking v nice here today, once I meet my lunchtime deadline I may go for a nice walk in the park, feeling very autumnal!

Nzmegs - I sympathise totally with you about high schools. We're applying for our DD at the moment. We have one local school of which we're in the catchment area but as the school is overscribed and we're on the outskirts of the catchment area she might not get in. What annoys me most is that there are children getting in from out of area for various reasons - we've always lived here, gone to a feeder school etc but it's a waiting game for us! Ooops....i'll get off my soapbox!! The only good thing is that if she gets in then my son will get in the year after next. I really hope you find a decent school.
I'm the same as a lot of you guys....I try to do smart but it doesn't often work. My usual get up is dog walking coat, dog walking trousers, dog walking shoes...you get the picture. My main problem is I have a wardrobe full of clothes but only about 2 pairs of trousers and 5 tops that fit. I either need to lose a stone to fit into the other clothes or buy some new ones. Mmmmmm!
DS is still off school and probably will be for the rest of the week. I'm working tomorrow but my mum has offered to sit with him. Next week i'm much busier thank goodness.
Hope you all have a great day xx0 -
Hi all
I have been busy today - printed some price lists off this morning, had a chat on skype with my friend and mentor and she has given me other ideas so now my website will have a complete overhaul and prices won't be mentioned and then do everything totally bespoke (I kind of do anyway but this way I will still have my min fee but I won't have a package as such). I had to go to the dentist today - no treatment needed other than a scale and polish which I loathe so came out feeling like a vampire:eek: I did a fair bit of walking too as I decided against taking the car and used the bus - its about a 2 mile walk to the dentist:eek: - I walked through campus and had the intention of visiting cancer studies to say hi but didnt in the end but did see one of the maintenance guys who asked me what I was doing these days so I said that now run a very successful business - he asked who I worked for so I said myself:j Came out of the dentist at 3.15pm and got the bus to town as I felt like a caramel macchiato in Selfridges and I had a cupcake too - so I used one of my books of LVs plus £1.65 cash:D After that I ventured onto the 4th floor to Fenn Wright & Manson and came out with two bolero jumpers that can mix and match with the clothes I have - sometimes a cardigan is what is needed instead of a jacket. I had a good chat with the lady on Fenn Wright & Manson and she was telling me that she had bridal families visiting looking for outfits and asked me for my card so I left a small pile with her:D Next on my list is a letter to the general manager as I think they are in desperate need of a bridal department - the only decent bridal dept in birmingham is in Debenhams:rolleyes:
Still working on my ad which I need to submit tomorrow - had a chat too with Laura from printing.com who advised me yesterday that she leaves tomorrow as she has another job in Manchester, she rang me to thank me for the card I posted yesterday. I am toying with the idea of going to the shop tomorrow iwth a present for her - I have a lovely photo frame that I picked up cheaply in Selfridges Sale earlier in the year..so I don't know if that would be a bit much after the card0 -
Another uneventful day then Horace??!!! lol I think the picture frame would be a nice thought,i'm sure she'd really appreciate it.
Star-well done on your new client and no panic attacks-that is great-hope you went for your walk, i find when I'm getting down again that walking helps me.
Mudbath-as i'm reading these posts I sit resplendant in my old fleece and jeans with mud (i hope its mud...) all around the bottom of the legs...just back from dog walking!0 -
MM - sounds like we have similar a 'fashion' sense!
I've done no work! DS still poorly. This is a definite benefit for being self employed - ok, i'm not being paid but at least i'm with him whilst he's ill!!
DS is at home tomorrow so i've rejigged people and will do most of them tomorrow xx0 -

You're only jealous:p
Anyway I have too much to do today so Laura won't be getting a present, I don't have time to go into Birmingham again.
The ad has been written no end of times but it has now been submitted. I have cleaned the windscreen of my car because I managed to squirt fruit shoot all over it on Tuesday which I then tried to wipe off with some handcleaner and ended up smearing the screen:eek:. I have also registered online to vote again this year. Now about to do more stuff for the fair..a bit about what I do. I have also been taking business calls too.
Had a letter from Access to Work today and how they will buy me certain things - to be honest I don't think I will bother other than to upgrade my zoomtext, they have recommended a 22 inch monitor and some unwieldy thing to bolt onto my tiny desk to hold said monitor..it seems a bit extreme if you ask me, a 19 inch one I can understand but the 22 inch is just too big:eek:
Mabel - your jeans could be covered in a melange of cowpoo and mud.
Muddy - I hope DS starts feeling better soon.
Star - hope you are ok today.
TCM - hope the shop is busy and that you haven't strangled OH yet.
To anyone that I have missed - hope you are all having a good day.0
