    Morning!
Have been a busy bee, record bank holiday sales - I worked so hard on Monday the laptop did not even get switched on! Am still no further on with this flipping website - a company based in Wales can do me an ecommerce site for £1500 yet they cannot give me any examples of what they have done!
Yes Horace, you are right, I do the shop, do the housework, muck out HIS stables in the evening as well as my own & feed his horses, be mummy to his 10 year old, pick up after everyone etc etc. It is a bit of a bum deal and when I try and bring it up in conversation, i get "if you don't like it then leave" and the more often its said the more tempted I become!
Sounds as if everyone is getting busy and getting on well - Purpleroses I was thinking of you at the weekend and wondering how you were getting on.
Horace, I too have not spoken to the parents for a while - mum lives in Spain and we were due to go and visit but it was just too expensive for flights so I am in the bad books. Am glad you and your new specs are coming to an understanding!

Am such an idiot - welcome Paul, Lynne & em - sorry, I should have said that first.

    Hi Paul

I think it was me that mentioned this thread elsewhere:rolleyes: Welcome to our self employment chat.

If you're a windowcleaner then you must be good with heights and ladders? I am no good with neither as I get dizzy standing on the first rung of the ladder and although I may venture half way up the ladder if dared then I freeze and cannot go up or down:eek:

My filing too has been moved from the floor into magazine files, box files etc (although some admittedly is still in carrier bags - mainly rochures:rolleyes:)
I need to have another sort out as my shelving unit is looking untidy.

    Jobs for today:

Sort out Trade Packs for wedding fair
See if I can blag some more prizes
Book Hairy Mary in for some waxing
Sort out new contents insurance as mine runs out tomorrow:eek:
Print off more Prize Draw sheets

    Hi Horace.
Yes it was you who gave this thread a mention elsewhere.
Although I am fine on ladders (I worked on them daily from 1991 - 2005), I don't use them much these days. I now use a different method for my work which involves brushing windows with purified water with a pole and brush - with my feet on the ground. That was the basis of my PM to Ellie in the other thread.
Although I usually work up to moderate rain, there are some pretty heavy bursts of it today so I'm taking the opportunity to catch up with business paperwork and generally cleaning and tidying my home.
I can do a lot better with my business than I have been and the key to it for me is about getting the basics better organised (again !! ) .
I've only just managed to pay off my tax bill that should have been paid by 31/7 so I imagine there will be a bit of interest to pay (and possibly the 5% surcharge on the last bit).

Welcome Emski - have you thought about applying for working tax credits, its not much but better than nowt. If you got them then you would work on your business for a while without having to think about the depressing temp job. Mind you with a temp job, you can always leave and ask the agency to find you something else.

Hi to all regulars - sorry for missing you off.

Mabel - if only I hadnt been thick, I should have sent more business cards - I will put your postcards out when I do this silly fair (I cannot believe that they have been so tacky as to have a bride get married whilst the fair is on:rolleyes:).

Paul - my landlord employs chaps with long poles to clean the windows of my flat (pity they can't do the balcony ones though - I have to do them myself and end up getting smears on them - they are covered in orange dust from the old rover works:rolleyes:). I have always been told that you need to get the basics of your office right and your systems in place so that you can be more efficient. So says Deborah Meaden (isn't that right TCM?).

I have managed to find 2 x £2 coins in my purse which have been added to my £2 jar so now I have £20 in there:cool: Hairy Mary has been booked into the local beauty parlour for a facial and various waxings, she goes on Friday morning:D The hair appointment has been booked for 26 September which is the last day of the colour sale at my hairdressers and it fits in perfectly with the fair which is on 27.

TCM your hubby needs a kick up the pants - I wonder what he would do if you did leave? He should be careful what he wishes for:rotfl: Maybe you should consider strike action especially if he keeps commenting about your business. As for the folks in Wales and your website - if they cannot show you what they have done previously then don't touch them with a bargepole. Well done on the Bank Holiday excesses though - you must have been busy not to have put the computer on.

Mabel - I have been thinking as to what I can send - more business cards - I do have postcards (vistaprint jobs - they were free but they're not really me if you get my drift). Doh...I have some lovely leaflets that I had printed for Solihull Carnival as a way of promoting my business but as rain stopped play they weren't used. You keep those business cards for yourself and I will send you a wodge of leaflets.

Anyway I can travel anywhere within reason and when I get my headphones and microphone for skype (on order) then I will be able to chat for free - so phone planning might be an option:D

I shall have to brave the wind and rain to walk to the post office to post them unless I can put it off until tomorrow.

I look forward to receiving my package Mabel - you are a star:D

Mabel, I think husbands are a particular breed in themselves and I have decided my best way to handle him is cover both ears and sing "la la la la" to myself when he starts! I have often wondered what he would do if I left because another fool would not tolerate the nonsense I put up with!

The web site is slowly coming together for me - I have 2 people coming to see me tomorrow who are not talking scary money, one of whom came recommended from another business.

Hope everyone having a good day - I'm quieter customer wise but 2 cracking sales have gave me a decent days takings.

    Txx
  • Hi all

Welcome to all the new people - nice to have more people round about here - means there will always be someone around for advice whenever we all need it.

Had a lovely but busy bank holiday. Had a friends wedding up in Stoke, then to the boyfriends parents in North Wales for a few days and back home yesterday and worked til 1am to clear a client's accounting backlog as he was VERY unprepared for tomorrow's board meeting. In there again this morning at 8am til 1pm, went to a meeting with a potential new client and as I came out of the meeting had an e-mail confirming ANOTHER new client who wants me to start work on a new project tomorrow. I don't seem to have enough hours in my day at the moment but you won't hear me complain!

Sounds like everyone is having a busy week of it - bank holidays don't seem to have the same luxury to them when you work for yourself do they!

Horace - I like your DIY attitude on the box, why buy it if you can make it!

    Hi Ally

It sounds as though you have been really busy and will be busy for weeks to come too:j

TCM - far better to get a website via recommendation than use someone who is going to rip you off - good luck with the meetings about it.

Ally - I am just a tight wad and couldnt really see the need to fork out £12.99 for a cardboard wedding postbox when I could get a box for free and use some wrapping paper that I already had. The paper is basically white with pink and purple leaves on it - it looks ok to me and the lid fits snuggly (the colours kind of match my business colour scheme).

I have packaged up some leaflets to send to Mabel - I will take a walk to the post office tomorrow morning, that way she can keep the business cards for herself and hand out my leaflets.

Hopefully, I will have a better day tomorrow - today has been rather sluggish and I am guessing that the miserable weather has something to do with it:rolleyes:
