thanks for that, it's just my credit history i'm worried about affecting my ability to get one, but you think i can?

    Missal
  • If you have poor credit history you may find it harder to get credit or an overdraft but opening the account itself shouldn't be too much of a problem.

I found a thread with someone in a similar situation - search 'Business Account & bad credit history' (it won't let me post a link as I'm new).

It seems to suggest applying online, may be worthwhile if you have trouble.

Why don't you just go and have a chat with an advisor in a bank, just tell them that you want to open a business account and see what they say.

Hi Missal & welcome to the merry bunch!

I think if you are a sole trader you can have a "trading as" account but I also think you can have a seperate personal account for a business so long as you keep accounts, which you would do anyway. if you don't need overdraft facilities or credit cards for your business, i would have thought a basic bank account in the business name would suffice, just check though who is going to give you the best deal - i recently changed accounts because the charges for the business account were ridiculous. I have free banking now and free internet banking and a business debit card just by shopping around.

Thanks starxtrouble and charlotte - the best of it is, I finished work to be met with 'we've had the best day of the holidays so far!' And there was me worrying!!! xx
  • Oh blimey, I need some motivation, looking at getting DM's book and a few others!

Can you advise on where to go when doing an article for the retail market for example? I know a few on here are article writers and I plan to sell some research and store visits, would I be best doing it via my own site for example or trying to go direct?

Also I am planning to offer retail services and would like to do a soft launch before the hard sell! I would like to set up a site and have a domain name, what are the best sites builders or whatever to use? I have a free trial of Microsoft's new webpage builder thing...

Anyone recommend any good books to start up with? I already work for myself via agencies and would like to branch out with my own offer!

There you go Mudbath-worrying for nothing, mothers guilt I guess? Glad they had a good day :-)
Hi Learning to drive-no advice i'm afraid just wanted to say hello :-)

Had another order last night -bringing the total up to...well.....two :-) its a start!
Also swapped my car (am picking it up in a few days) This is my new (well old) one http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Nissan-figaro-1-0-Turbo_W0QQitemZ300339552320QQcmdZViewItemQQptZAutomobiles_UK?hash=item45eda1e040&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14

Pretty MSE really as its cheaper tax than my Nissan Micra-and these appreciate in value unlike the micra which has lost a grand in 6 months :-)

Moneymabel - another sale is great especially as you wouldn't have had that sale without the website. I've had someone buy another gift voucher. The girl buying it lives in London but her mum lives near me. Without the website she'd never have found me so it's definitely been worth while. I'm tweeking the website almost daily though! I'm starting to think i'm obsessed!:rotfl:xx

Wow! I love the car Mabel!!! Its fab! Health to drive it, as we say in Norn Iron! I found a hilarious book on how to speak Northern Ireland and sent it to my step dad who is originally from Liverpool but lived in Jersey for 40 years - he can never understand a word i say!

Learning to Drive - definatley get DM's book. I'm nearly finished it and it has given me so much info it was worth every penny. I have to be a smug bug though and say that alot of things she says to do I am already doing so I am not such a dim wit after all! Again, like alot say on here, talk to the FSB, they really are very good and full of advice.

Anyone any good at wording a recruitment ad? Am looking for someone part time in the run up to Christmas as my Saturday angel is back to school next week.

Learning to Drive - speak to business link or your local chamber of commerce as they will be able to give you advice on setting up a business and whether or not your business idea is viable. https://www.businesslink.org.uk - they also run courses on how to set up your business e.g. marketing, business plans etc. You would also need to register with the HMRC for tax and NI purposes - again I would wait and see if your business model is viable.

If you can afford it then get your website done professionally - printing.com can set one up for £399 plus VAT and let you have access to the update centre so that you can update it to your heart's content.

Well done Mabel and Mudbath on your sales:j

TCM I am rubbish at writing recruitment adverts. In your business does it help to have knowledge of horses and their bits n bobs? DM's book makes sense to me and some of things I too, am already doing including the working and getting less than minimum wage:rolleyes:

I am getting a bit despondent with my course - I have assignments backing up because I cannot send them to be marked, my tutor is still ill despite saying that my assignment would be marked on 17 August. She has had her appendix out and her stomach is bruised but I would have thought that she would be on her feet by now:rolleyes: I am also getting tired of not being able to see and having constant headaches because of eye strain:rolleyes: I am praying for a call from the hospital today to say that my specs are ready:rolleyes:

    Have a good day all.:D

I must be psychic - I was thinking about my first assignment and lo and behold, its been marked and I was given an A+.
