I found the instructions on genus website great. Scroll to Genus VIZO Multi Media Player

This is how I did it (excuse my pc illiteracy)

When you go into My computer the Hardware will be in one of your icons. Mine was just called "h" so I didn't spot it at first.
The easiest way is to click on them all and in the correct one you will get 3 folders -audio, video and photo.
I then clicked on my downloads whch shows all the music I have on pc.
Clicked on "folders" which is on the toolbar menu.
    Click on "my computer"
click on the drive (mine is h that you found earlier)
    click on audio
Then just drag your song into the folder

Repeat process for photos but click on photo instead of audio

    Best of luck.

No sign up at our Currys and the SA wasn't really inclined to go and look for the player in the back office where they were stored, either. She'd never heard of an MP4 player, apparently, and looked at me as though I had 2 heads. Another SA went and got one, but the first girl served me.

I'd already taken the case to the desk (when asking about the player), and asked about the leads. She said "we don't sell them" (which took to mean "I can't be bothered looking for them"). So I offered to go and look at the shelf, where I found 8 packs! No more cases on display, though.

The second CS said something about it being "that offer for staff"??

Anyhow, I've got one, and put it away for hubby for his birthday. Oh he will be thrilled. He can't even work the kettle. :rotfl:

  • Thank you bargainaddict, picked up one myself in Dixons in Gloucester yesterday. They didn't have any out on display, but the guy I asked knew they had some in - they were under the counter in a display case. They had five others at 11am yesterday, and they knew the case and cables came with it for nothing.

The instructions are typically in pigeon English like most of these digital gadgets, but its not too difficult to operate. You just connect it up, drop the requisite files into the three folders, (audio, video, photo), disconnect, nagivate the menus and press select. The menus are simple to use on the device itself, nothing fancy, it does the job.

Some things to bear in mind though -
1: No wmv video file support, but virtually everything else works! Ogg, mp3, mp4, avi, div-x mpg, vob, jpg... its great. Playback sounds great, and being able to just drop video files onto it is ace. Re-encoding files using 'psp video 9' is also easy - this creates smaller mp4 format files more suited to this size screen, though if you have the space on the box and not the time, playing a bigger file (up to 1gb) works without hassle as well.

2: Don't charge the thing waiting for the green light to come on when its finished charging, like the FAQs on the website say. The manual is correct in this case. My experience of it is that the red light stays lit no matter how long you leave it plugged in. The manual also mentions being able to update the firmware, but the website doesn't detail any downloads to fix any outstanding issues, and the software it talks about doesn't exist on the drivers CD. Some of the menus when using the device are different from the manual, but its not exactly a problem to work the new ones.

3: I've struggled with video output to a television set - I get either a rolling picture on 15% of the screen but the rest stable, or the whole thing in B/W. Think its outputting NTSC but my telly can't cope with that properly. If you can ignore the flashing line at the bottom, its fine. Saves converting a video file to DVD before watching it - just copy to the player and plug into the telly. Anyone know how I can remedy this?
The manual also says about 'selecting TV out' through the menus, but I think they've changed the menus since writing the manual. It seems to automatically enable when the cables are plugged in.

4: Skipping forward in 30sec chunks within certain video files is awkward and if you're too quick it skips to the next file, but its not a dealbreaker.

Overall though, its a fantastic little piece of kit for the price, a great coupling with UKNova awaits it! Thanks for the spot!
  • Went back into my Currys loaded with info on how to get it all for £50 and they had none left
  • Snap, went into currys and at first no joy, 50 for the unit and the xtras on top. They could not even find the unit on the web site, therefore asked them to scan the unit in and check, result. Thanks for all the info.
