I don't get lunch breaks in McCalls, we don't get breaks at all. I mean we can sit n read a mag/paper or take something to eat off the shop floor, go for a fag etc whenever we want. It is a pretty relaxed place, and theres really usually nothing to be done. But there has to be 2 people in the shop at all times really, and we only havd like 7 members of staff, so 2 people do the morning 7-3 and 2 people do the night 3-10.
I can't leave the shop with just one person in it, plus the post office is about 15 mins away on the bus. :(

So you either start at 3pm or finish at 3pm? You can go to the Post Office before or after!

yes but sometimes i start in Morrisons at 4, so i don't have time to go home, get the stuff, get changed and go to the post office, then to work again. And try to get something to eat in that time too.
  • So today has been quite good. I havent done much of anything to be honest, had a wee lazy day. Which i do feel i deserve, after the past few weeks.
My uncle came up earlier to say bye, he's going back home to Austrailia tomorrow morning.

I packed up all the Ebay and Amazon stuff i've sold to post (hopefully tomorrow)
I phone my manager at McCalls, and she had me in a backshift tomorrow, which i can't do as i am in Morrisons tomorrow night, so she is going to change the rota and phone me back. I just hope i'm not in early now tomorrow!!

Planning on listing some more stuff on Ebay later on today.

So i managed to get everything posted today, hurrah!
Though i've came home to find 2 more books have sold on Amazon!!

Anyways, was working 4-7:30 tonight in Morrisons, i know, whats the point?
The evil manager that was my manager in the cafe, is back from her holiday as my new checkout manager!! I honestly hate this woman so much, words cannot even describe!

Anyway i look at the rotas for 2 weeks time (when i start summer school, and i'm in uni 9-4 mon-fri)
And shes got me in ALL day sat and sun that week.
So i ask her if they can be changed, cause i really need the sat and sun off to make up my 16 hours in McCalls (2 8 hour shifts)
And just do 3 x 5-8:30 shifts during the week.

    BUT NO!!!

Now that she is the checkout manager, things have to all go her way! Like it did when she was the cafe manager.
She was like well this is your first job, so it's your priority, and i'm like well no, cause McCalls give me more hours, more money and i've only been there 2 weeks and i'm being trained up to be a supervisor already! When i'd been in the cafe for a whole year, and you were promising me supervisor in there from day one!!! Which never happened!

She just annoys me so much!!!! I hate the woman, honestly! why does she need to turn everything into such a drama!!?

    Anyway, working this week:
    4-7:30 Morrisons Monday
    7-2 McCalls Tuesday
    2-10 McCalls Thursday
    7-2 McCalls Friday
    2-8:30 Morrisons Saturday

How many hours are you getting at morrisons? Will you realistically be able to carry on both jobs when you start uni? Maybe you need to start thinking about which one will be the best one to stay with.
You dont want to be running yourself into the ground with two jobs and uni aswell!
How much money do you need each month to pay your bills, rent etc and how much do both jobs give you?

On a plus note: good news about being trained as supervisor already at your new job!!

I'm contracted for 20 hours just now at McCalls, but doing about 22-29 a week. My contracted hours will go down to 16 when i start uni on the 14th.

In Morrisons i'm contracted for 9 hours a week, but doing about 11-15 just now.

Last year i managed to do between 23-30 hours a week while at college just in Morrisons, but i've now been moved depts and hours have all been cut, so i won't be getting anywhere near as many hours in there as i was last year. Which is why i need the second job.

I'm not sure how much excatly i need a month...hmm let me think about that one
  • ok so from morrisons i get: £216 basic monthly pay for 9 hours.
But i do more than that, plus get time and a half on a sunday.

So realisticly i can walk away with about £300 ish a month from there

McCalls with my 16 hours i'll get £400ish a month, again it depends on extra hours and such, as the 16 hour staff just now sometimes do 18/19 a week.

Then i'll be getting £432 student loan every month.

So all together i'll be getting:

    £1100 a month (roughly)

Maybe as like a bit of a target you could carry on as you are for a month or two, get your debts paid off and then if your still really hating it at morrisons you could probably afford to leave

I don't actually hate morrisons, i love it. All my friends are there, and my best friend. I actually got moved from the cafe to the checkouts, as she has took over the cafe as manager, and they wanted me away from her, cause they know we are such good friends :(

So it's just that, and the fact i still have the old cafe manager as my manager on the checkouts now :(

I really don't know what to do, cause i've been shopping in there with my mum since i was a baby, and it was safeways. I love the shop, and the people, its just two little things that are getting me down the now.
I think i'll stick it out and see how things go. Who knows she might be nicer now that shes out of the cafe. This was only her first day back from hols, and her first day as checkout manager.
