Goto CONTROL PANEL then WINDOWS FIREWALL to turn it on if its not already
Avira is free and doesnt have a firewall. If you wish to pay for one put Avira on for now and buy Kaspersky suite (Firewall etc)

Personally id advise alternating weekly scans with Malwarebytes, Superantispyware and Spybot

Download SUPERANTISPYWARE (Make sure you click 'DOWNLOAD LATEST VERSION')

Download SPYBOT (Make sure you click 'DOWNLOAD LATEST VERSION' ~ make sure TEA TIMER is UNTICKED on installation)

Also ~ especially as you use online banking. Id advise using FIREFOX with the NOSCRIPT plugin

NOSCRIPT works by blocking ALL website scripts (Which is how dodgy websites infect your computer ~ the easiest way to catch a virus after downloading). So you need to UNLOCK all websites you use for them to work properly (Like this one for example)
It also prevents 'page hijacking' (clicking to goto a BANK page for example and being redirected to a BOGUS page which would give scammers your login details!)
I personally set it so that it DOESNT show messages about blocked scripts. Then all you need to do is use common sense. Think to yourself 'does the site work ok'? If so it doesnt need touching. But if you wanted to watch a video on youtube say, youd need to unlock parts of it. Look bottom right, If theres ANY red on the 'S' symbol, then something is being blocked.

(You will also need the other addons like FLASH etc)

Thank you all.. i never thought i d do all these things but seem i have.
i will buy kapinsky better .
the ones from hijack this that you list as problematic.. i click o them then click fix checked.. it says if you do so it will permanently delite or fix them... bu i have gone back and none of them is beeen deleted?
by the way-- it is a bit faster
i have tried twice to defrag but yesterday as i left it to do so overnight , the batery finished.
so will see what that does..

Kaspinsky arrived, and trying to download .. but it wont do.. as it can still smell agv 8 and wont do unless i remove it.
have tried agv remover 32 bit too many times but no chance..
i remember before when i was worwarded the agv 32 bit remover.. when i clicked , it asked me which agv i got - didnt know so clicked one..
but now that i know i got agv8 , it doesnt give me that option..
help thanks

reinstall AVG
Then shut it down (Stop it from scanning)
Then uninstall
Then run the removal tool
