I know that a lot of your emails are work-related, but you might be able to archive any over 2 months old to CD-R, or memory stick. Having this many on your laptop makes it hard for the O/S to maintain a defragmented file system. I bet if you ran a disc defrag program your drive would be about 40% fragmented.

Running Vista doesn't help, with all the updates, even my sons' top of the range laptop run slowly.

Forgot to ask, but what email client are you using?

Looking at your logfile, it looks like you've been running Mcaffee, Norton & AVG Anti-virus programs over the time you have owned this Laptop. Download 'CCcleaner' and see if it fixes the broken & missing links within your registry.

Symantec's uninstall routine for Norton leaves a lot of debris behind, and can lead to system slow-downs. When you come to put an anti-virus prog back on, try either Kaspersky or Avast, they are the best you can get.

    ok

    As Pat said

    Uninstall AVG (if you can)
Then (or) run the 32 bit AVG removal tool
    http://www.avg.com/download-tools

    Use the Norton removal tool
    http://service1.symantec.com/Support/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039

    Use the MCAFEE REMOVAL TOOL
    http://service.mcafee.com/FAQDocument.aspx?id=TS100507

Switch ON windows firewall if its not already

Download CCLEANER (Make sure you click 'DOWNLOAD LATEST VERSION' ~ make sure YAHOO TOOLBAR is unticked on installation)
    http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner/
Run the CLEANER scan (UNTICK 'cookies')
Then run the REGISTRY scan (Backup the registry when it asks)

    Then the options yours ~
Personally I wouldnt touch Mcafee OR AVG with a bargepole
But hey ~ its your computer.

My suggestion is to install AVIRA ~
Download AVIRA ANTI VIRUS PERSONAL (Make sure you click 'DOWNLOAD LATEST VERSION')
    http://www.filehippo.com/download_antivir/

(Or BUY kaspersky if you want an all in one like Mcafee)

Then rerun a hijack log so we can see how it looks

  • I think your problem is that your laptop is trying to run AVG and Mcafee together, plus you still have some norton components lying around the place. As recommended by others you need to get rid of all traces of AVG, Macafee and Norton (symantec). Then clean up your registry, get rid of any unwanted files, defrag your drive, then reinstall a virus scanner.

Personally I've used AVG for years and never had a problem, but if you decide to re-install it uncheck the option to install 'link scanner' as this will slow things down.

right , i went to ''uninstall spree'' and got rid of lots of things, including abode version 9.0 which i called it '' the lehman brother '' as it had taken 220 mb... i realise now that was a mistake but will reinstall , no problem.
the other '' lehman brother i see is my lexmark printer with over 200 mb! tempted to kill it ;) but need my printer

I CANT SEE A SIGN OF NORTON TO UNINSTALL but will go and remove the traces of all uninstalled antiviruses.. mcaffe wasnt giving up easy, but then i saw it good bye..

I know norton wont be in the uninstall list. But you need to use the REMOVAL tool as some nortons still on your computer
Please use ALL the REMOVAL tools (DONT just uninstall them)
