toshiba laptop

Help anyone please..
Got a toshiba equium dual core etc some 20 months old now.
i thought it was getting slow ... i thought till i went to my sister who lives in italy and was using the very laptop i gave her as a present in 2005! a dell inspiron m procesor,.. not very high spec you would assume..
but that laptop --man oh man.. flying
came to londonn saturday and i hate the speed of my toshiba.
have tried some clean ups but not much
dont know how to clean the disc.
got few pics.. and my yahoo email got some 12 thousand emails.. do they bother it? i need these emails for future refference as its work email..
any help
or any where to send it how much should i look to pay to clean it up as i dont think it needs space etc.. its got good spec

I'm sorry but I have no experience of Vista, only XP so I can't provide detailed information, but here is what I would do generally:

1. Disk cleanup tool (computer > disk C > properties >tools > disk cleanup).

2 Defrag tool (computer > disk C > properties > tools > defragment).

3. Install a free virus scanner http://free.grisoft.com run it and let it delete any viruses and unnecessary cookies

4. Install a free adware/malware scanner http://www.safer-networking.org/en/spybotsd/index.html run it and let it delete all it finds

Have you recently installed any new software? Certain applications, particularly those from Norton are shameless resource hogs.

Finally how much free disk space do you have? If your disk is nearly full the windows swap file won't work efficiently.

(do NOT do anything else with Hijack but scan and post the FULL log)


***DONT install any 'resident' anti virus programs yet as it could make the problem worse till we determine WHAT the problem is and what programs you have now***

1 thing i noticed before was a mcaffe antivirus..
it came free from my hsbc internet banking and actually by the time i start computer etc it goes to internet explorer , i check my emails.. all this slow... and after 15 minutes i hear a computer noise and a small screen saying '' mcaffe security system is complete ''

Personally I would go to add/remove programs and get rid of mcafee, it's bloatware just like norton. Then do what alienrik suggests
