Well, i did my damsal in distress routine at lunch time when OH came home, got him to take the bike out of the garage, i couldn't manage it because he has too much junk in there. Then i saw the seat needed lowering but obviously didn't know what to use! So he faffed around and it wouldn't go, so then he gets out his heavy machinery and after a few more minutes the seat is out, bits removed and the seat is lowered, ready for use!! I do love playing the damsel in distress sometimes!!

Have checked the bike over and it works fine, its great as i got it free from freecycle. Then i hunted in the cupboard for the cycle helmet i bought but never wore, so i don't have to spend out there. Then i remembered i had some lights somewhere so i dug them out, the back light is fine and batteries were working in it, so no further expense. Stook rechargable batteries in the front light and thats also fine.

So now i am ready to start cycling to work some days, low petrol costs here we come!! Even better is that i have done it without having to incur further costs.

SM, my tomato plants are currently sitting in the bath as they need a drink!!

Fay, how big should i wait before repotting my tomato plants? Currently they are only little, with their two leaves but they are in the seed tray still, they look a bit weedy, but don't think its anything i have done, as they get plenty of sun light and a good drink.

    Thanks for the welcome SM

I'm just on internet booking a holiday for my mum and using cashback of course! Couldn't find one that did easyjet but if you go through alpharooms you get the cashback and the same price flight on easyjet.

Also because I work in her cafe it means I will be getting a few extrashifts while she is away so I can hopefully pay off half of one CC over Easter- yay!

  • Hi All :hello:

Hope your all having a good Monday and good dfw day. Rubbish at work today but I am powering through. Haven't felt great today, bit of a belly ache, but just ignoring it.

Not sure what is going on with shifts at the restaurant, they messed me around a bit last week and don't know if they are going to ring with any or not, which is annoying as it's hard to organise anything else but I will see what happens. I'm starting to think what if I don't get any shifts there. I'm not thinking i'm never going to reach my target, i'm still very focused, but is it all still possible without a second job? Even to just reach half my target? Is everyone finding things ok?

    Today:
    Surveys
Checked online banking, really hope my Amazon money comes through soon so I get the money I paid for postage back
Transferred some money from my ISA to pay some of my card off. Have to go out and back in again when I have called them to transfer it and now can't get back in - will keep trying
Got an update on how much I owe on my loan. About £141 more than I thought so not too bad, little over half a months worth. Have updated my sig and target.
    Free scratches - 1 x 10p and 1 x 25p
Get some boxes from work for moving - only 3 weeks today to go! I'm so excited! :D:D :j :j
Try and get some packing/sorting done for moving
    Post book sold on Amazon
Take books sold on Amazon off of green metropolis
    Check for mystery shops
Applied for some full time jobs - i'm very grateful for mine, but it's doing my head in!
  • Andan - hi - well they prob look as weedy as mine!! Excuse the long winded reply - I have far too many words. :)

TBH I usually wait until they have 4-6 'true' leaves - the seed leaves dont photosythywhotsit (I cant spell) much so best to leave them until they have some proper leaves which will stimulate the lower roots etc. If you move them too early you might 'check' them (set them back a bit).

So as much as its awful to be patient - I'd sit on my hands for a week or so at least. (my ones 4 trays diff ones - have only just two leaves up) will keep you posted here - yours might be quicker!

When I worked as a propagator in Ed - we would have things sown relatively sparsely so that we missed out the 'pricking out' stage (when they are tiny seedlings) and just got to the pot up individually into a 9cm pot stage (4-6 true leaves - lots roots) - then we would grow them on for a bit until the roots were poking out of the bottom of the 9cm pot and they had filled the pot with roots then they moved into their final pot stage.

    so:

4-6 leaves - plant individually into 9cm (ish) pot dont squash them down (think light and fluffy for the compost - then the roots travel better in the pot)
When it fills the 9cm pot with roots - repot into grow bag/bed or into a 3ltr pot
    Feed lots and eat tomatoes!!

My plant-guru-bloke mentor argued by missing out the pricking out stage you were'nt doing things to them when they are vunerable and might die. They can stretch their roots around the seed tray/pot happily mazimising the undisturbed time to become stronger.

What you got them sown in? If they are in a tray and not too dense then you will be OK for a week or two or three yet!!

I love the fact I never p r i c k (sorry had to edit cos it thought it was a bad word) out now - you will get prob 95-100 success rate if you miss out that stage.

Then again every gardener will tell you something different. :)

Although we will all say - never ever handle the stem - always handle the leaves - if you damage the stem chances are its kapput - damage the leaf and its not such a big deal.

I also use a kitchen fork - none of this fangled special tool milarkay - its useful to use kitchen stuff it like having a lilliput sized garden fork in your plant pot!!

Tomatoes can also be buried deeper than they emerge - they make weirdo aerial roots so when they are ready to pot you can pot them upto just udner the seed leaves and they will appreciate it v much. xx

Sorry for the ramble - you can see why I am struggling to write my literature review - too many words!!

Fay - How did the presentation go?? Love your summary of what you have discovered through spending diary:D especially the money sucking child bit:rotfl: going from personl experience I would guess this is the male type child:p

I planted another 4 trays of veggie seedlings last night - currently in the bath :shhh: :shhh: don't tell OH:rolleyes: need to make a space for them.

How did you guess that the boy child sucks the most money out???????

SM - presentation went OK - I have to do it again in front of an international audience in April (seemingly this will be good for me - how exactly?????) - think stupid supervisor who now only needs to fill half the time cos his daft student (me) is having to do one.

I had done a survey in the summer of heating expenditure and heating types in houses. So the results from that whilst a bit of a shock were not to unexpected.

Over 30% people here live in fuel poverty (where you spend over 10% household income on fuel to keep yourself warm). With low wages, expensive fuel with hardly any choice of fuel or suppliers AND a need to heat your house for 50% longer than elsewhere in Scotland - no wonder people struggle to keep warm!!

Excuse me - lol - you can tell I work in renewable heat sector eh??

Wandered around my willows at lunchtime and lots of them are flowering - very pretty.:D

Washing hanging on the line and some indoors because I did a big wash.
Was planning an NSD today but decided that I was going to post something to a friend so that blew the idea out of the water - thanks to him I got another £2 for my coin jar:j As the NSD was blown out of the water, I stopped off at the local DIY store and bought 2 10L bags of compost which I carried home, before I left the store they said "next time if you want something, we will home deliver it for £2.99" to be honest I'd rather struggle with it because it beats going to the gym.
