we had the same problem recently, but as a fan of how clean is your house, I imagined Kim & Aggie standing there tutting going 'roll those sleeves up!' + 'elbow grease my girl!' I must admit I did cheat a little and spray a bit of cilit bang first, left it for a few minutes then scrubbed like mad! For cleaning I often use those cheap washing up brushes from wilkos, or cheap toothbrushes from a pound shop. :)

Waitrose ownbrand Toilet Cleaner & Limescale remover works a treat.

No I dont work for Waitrose, when I moved house, the loo was a horror, so while waiting for new suite to be put in found this worked it looked like new, despite being fuschia pink loo
My Mind wanders, if found please return.
  • My dad always uses caustic soda. He tips some in the bowl and places a chair in front of the toilet so that nobody uses it by accident. Leave it for a day and then flush at least three times to clear out the caustic soda.

It is extremely alkaline and will burn in contact with skin. However, it will remove the limescale without any scrubbing.

We recently moved into a house where the previous occupants were somewhat slack in the cleaning department.

The toilets were so disgusting that we binned the seats and got new ones !

Anyway the bowls and rims were thick with limescale and dried on piddle:eek:

I spent hour scrubbing the rims with brillo pads and ajax and got the top of the bowls sparkling.

The limescale in the bottom is harder - i have scooped all the water out and then scrubbed and scrubbed with ajaz and brillo pads and even picked with my nails and got huge chunks of scale off but we are still left with liemscael - what seems to happen is the cleaning bleaches the patches and they then discolour again in around 5-7 days.

What can we use to remove the limescale for good ? I am using the cistern blocks that prevent limescale and i clean the toilets 3-4 times a week.

    Thanks

I use the harpic power plus gel. It's very effective :) Leaving it in overnight should completely clear it (we had this problem at a rented house ;) )

Vinegar works wonders at dissolving limescale.

For under the rim fold paper towels, or toilet paper into strips and soak in vinegar then press up under the rim and leave over night.

For the bowl push out, with the toilet brush, as much water as possible and pour on vinegar.

Having said that, got a free bottle of harpic power plus a year ago and it works wonders.

You need acid for limescale so I'd try Vinegar, leave it in the toilet bowl overnight for a good soaking.

    Hi MadMonkey,

There's an earlier thread that should help so I've added your thread to it to keep the suggestions together.
