Have you got a Lidl near you? They sell their own version of the calgon tablets, which are much cheaper. I pop one of these in my wash.0

Quick chemistry lesson. Limescale is a base. In order to neutralise it, you need an acid: vinegar, citric acid, Coca Cola, even lemon juice. However, bicarb, salt, soda crystals, ammonia are bases and are no use. What those two intrepid ladies Kim and Aggie do with other people's toilet bowls is they pour the Real Thing into the bowl and leave it overnight. Stubborn deposits they attack with a piece of pumice.0

What else gets rid of limescale as easily as CB, but cheaper? HM if possible? I live in a really hard water area and putting in a water softener isn't an option.
Any suggestions are welcomed!

Good question Suzy. I'm trying to cut down on the number of cleaners I buy for loads of jobs - sink, toilets, floor, windows etc etc and the amount of chemicals I use which go down the drain eventually.
