yeah if they haven't had anything too exotic done on them they will likely as not open fine in Pages/numbers and indeed the chap I saw today said it's quite rare that they won't open even if some advanced stuff done and that if any problems it'd be more likely docs made in pages/numbers being opened in ms and again only likely if any advanced/fancy stuff in said documents.
have you got a store reasonably near you where you can go have a play and a personal shopping thing - they are very laid back and no hard sell so you can go a few times and have an hour at a time and ask anything you want and have a play - I'd highly recommend it - you can only book these sessions on their websiteHate and I do mean Hate my apple Mac Computer - wish I'd never bought the thing

Please stop using the word "of" when you actually mean "have" - it's damned annoying :mad:0 -
Office for Mac is £79, so it doesn't really make much sense to pay £70 for Pages and Numbers just to open MS Office files. You might as well buy Office if that's what you want it for.
OpenOffice will do it for free anyway.0 -

Thanks for the replies.
The 3yr warranty seems to be available from ebay for a lot less than the £136 apple want. Not sure how it works though and whether there would be any problem down the line.
Most of the other software seems to be available cheaper there too. Wireless keyboard is £20 if purchased with machine, the mouse is £12 but has some bad reviews.
So apert from maybe the wireless keyboard, there does`nt seem any need to purchase anything else with the machine.
Not sure whether the shop price is the same as online, or whether then can offer anything more. I think I have seen a large Currys with a specialist Mac department, but can`t remember where.0 -

depends - seems a personal thing to me. I only ever use pretty basic word/excel docs so the computability issues don't arise. Additionally pages/numbers are capable of saving in word/excel formats anyway so no issues there either.
Also seems to me part of the joy of macs is that the software and hardware are designed by same company and to work seamlessly together and with other mac software - that in itself makes it appealing above office to me - should, as I suspect I will, I go ahead with a mac purchase I am 99.99 % sure i'd go for pages/numbers.Hate and I do mean Hate my apple Mac Computer - wish I'd never bought the thing

Im not sure i would trust curry's store staff to advise on Mac products or offer a competitive price.0 -

Apologies. Yeah i suppose there is nothing wrong with that. But any queries or technical information should be taken with a pinch of salt in my opinion.0 -

Pages does make some beautiful documents. It's more of a DTP app than a word processor in a lot of ways. I've been tempted by it myself. There's a free trial available for anyone who's interested.
Do bear in mind though, that Microsoft have been making Office for Mac for longer than they've been making it for Windows.0 -
I use Neo Office on my ancient Mac, it is a great word processor and free, well they ask for a donation.0
